Iiiiiiiiiiitttttttt'ssssss Spooky Season!
That has to be one of my favorite Halloween gifs ever. Last year, Cait and I would just randomly text it to each other.
What a fun kick-off last night. We went to my friend's who has to be the *biggest* Hocus Pocus fan ever to watch the new movie. She outdid herself with the decorating and food and setup. She had a movie screen hung on the siding of her house and chairs and blankets and pillows all across the deck. Heaters and wood stoves all over. Popcorn machine, food, drinks, and every last Halloween decoration you can imagine. And if you were thinking that the blankets and pillows were standard fare--bzzzzzzzz. You would be wrong- all Halloween and Hocus Pocus themed.
Caitlyn called Debbie (from across the street) to see if PJs were ok to wear and since Debbie was wearing PJs, Caitlyn and I wore them too. She had the best idea that we wear her PJs but mismatched.
6028750187567414048_resize.jpg
The movie was actually really cute! The OG is one of my favorites, we used to watch it every year. There were a lot of Easter Eggs in it too. Definitely a hoot to watch it outside with 15 or so other people surrounded by candles and spooky lights. I am glad that I got to do this. I haven't been super social in a long time so it's good to start doing that again.

We are going to my ILs this afternoon for the Sept/Oct birthday bash that I usually have here but did not have it in me to deal with. It stinks that it's raining and it can't be outside but it will be good to see everyone. Christopher and my SIL weren't supposed to be there, he has a baseball tournament today but with the heavy rain, maybe it will be canceled and they can show up. I barely see them anymore too- he is always busy with sports or Scouts.
It took me over two hours to make three cards and I still have one more to do.

Hope that everyone is having a fantastic day!

@vickyday Hope that the rain moved out quickly;y for you. I know you know this, but I gotta say it anyway-- be very very careful on the bike, there is going to be a ton of grit/gravel/branches down everywhere. Ride safe!
The worms and spiders are such a great idea but they aren't usually vegetarian so Caitlyn can't eat them. I loved making "dirt cups" when the kids were little
Have a wonderful time at the church dinner today

@LSlycord Are the girls still with you or did they head back to school? Hope they have a safe and uneventful trip back.
How is Andie too?
That is what Caitlyn is doing right now with all of her advisees- working on their 4-year plans with them. She has each person's plans all highlighted and color-coded. Good luck to Syd! I would;t put my money against her getting it done exactly as she says :D
Yes, the derm said that if she gets active hives, to call and tell the desk he said she can come in then, but trying to schedule it when she has to have three hours free to get there and back is going to be a hassle. Even if it happens when she is at work (located in the same county as the dr) she is at the north end, he is at the southeast and it would still take half an hour and no traffic to get there. *eye roll* She doesn't know what to do.

@Cherylndesigns How are you and Steph doing? Is she holding up ok? Ft Meyers really seems to have gotten the worst of it. Please let her know that the O-Fam is thinking of her.

@BrightEyes Oh wow, this vax really kicked your butt again. I am getting nervous, I know I have to get mine but when??
I'm glad that you have been resting and my fingers are crossed that you get some really awesome pictures of the balloons today.

@bcgal00 *wrapping you and Jen in big hugs*
FWIW, Sam said that her family breathed a little bit easier after the 1st anniversary passed, knowing that they went through all of the firsts. Not a lot, just a tiny bit easier but they felt it. I can only hope that each day/holiday/etc you can breathe a little easier too.
You have every positive thought for good results from the scan too.

@tanteva Linguine (or maybe it is O'Brien, can never tell the two of them apart :p ) is wearing the sugar skull mask you made for Braxton last year. Braxton is having some spinal issues and hasn't wanted to come out from behind the chair until he is all fixed up right. I'll have to take a pic to show you soon,

Good morning ladies. It's 60* this morning (I should really learn how to make the degree sign since I use it so much) and beautiful! The sun is shining on the trees and it is really beautiful. We will be up in the mid-80's today, but the humidity is supposed to stay low so even that may be ok!

The girls are leaving around lunch time to go back to school. Syd said she won't be back again now until until Thanksgiving. I doubt that's true. But I told her not to worry about it, because I would be over there to take her to lunch for sure before then. She just grinned. We took them out to dinner last night at the Mexican restaurant and Jianna opened up a bit more. She told us what Trinidad & Tobago is like culturally. A lot of people immigrated from India early on and so their Caribbean foods have quite a few dishes that are similar to those of India...lots of curry type dishes. They are already decorating for Christmas because they don't (@faerywings close your ears) celebrate Halloween or Thanksgiving. They also celebrate most of the Indian religious holidays. Very interesting. I think that she will come home with Sydney for Thanksgiving so she will get some of the American holiday (at least the food) then.

We also were able to get Andie into the vet. They shaved around the hot spot and they gave her 3 different meds plus gave her an IV with an antibiotic before we left and she feels much better already. They put a cone of shame on her but it made her so nervous because she was running into everything, so we took it off and put a big t-shirt on her and she has been very good about not licking.

My plans are to get back to planning the road trip. We won't go until sometime after Shaun's procedure which will be Thursday. Hoping for sometime week after next but we will see.

@faerywings the party looked like so much fun! It made me want to have a party...or at least go to one! So glad that the doctor told Cait that she can come over whenever she is having the hives. But it isn't going to be easy...probably especially now with advising heating up for the second semester. I wish that Syd had an advisor like Cait. I think that hers is a guy in his mid-40's and I think that he just isn't as motivated to help as Cait is. Fortunately, Syd is pretty detailed so I think that she will do ok with it.

@Cherylndesigns I cannot imagine how traumatic this is for Steph and Asher. To see the kind of destruction that they are seeing...it must be devastating! Hope that you got better sleep last night knowing that the storm is at least over.

@BrightEyes I need to get in for my booster and your reaction is giving me pause. I also need a flu shot but I don't want to get them at the same time. I'm thinking Monday for the booster...that gives me plenty of time if I don't feel well. I hope today is a good day for you...with some beautiful weather for hot air balloons.

@bcgal00 hoping that each day is a bit better for both you and Jen. And I hope that the results get back to you sooner rather than later...that's so hard to have that hanging over your head! I think that it is a good idea to plan something different for Christmas. Hopefully that will relieve some of the triggering moments. The first year after my dad died, everything was so different. So we all went to New York City. It didn't keep us from missing Christmas' past but it did give us some other things to do.

Hope everyone has a great weekend.

Still rainy here. Leaves all over the deck and yard.....even green ones! Mark is getting ready to go down to the woods to check out the damage. Invariably there will be trees down. No bike riding for us for a while, unless the temps go back up a bit!

Good morning,
Quick in and out before I start the cooking bonanza for today's chicken stew, chili event.
Hope all fared well in the storm. We lost power.....off then back on.....about 5 times. I haven't been down there, but I'm sure our basement is leaking. Mark thinks the only way he is going to be able to get it fixed is to dig a trench around the house to seal it on the outside, too. THAT is not going to be a fun job! This house was built in the 60's, so there's no telling what he will find when and if he gets around to that job!
Anywho.....enjoy your weekend!

Just got home from work ***TIRED*** and we've had spaghetti & vegetarian ground "beef" with TONS of KETCHUP. I'm feeling the ketchup filling up my soul. No work next week. Or, well, yes ... but not normal work. On Wednesday we are going to another town to check out their library + eating out and having a nice day & evening with the work mates. Then a night at a hotel & then on Thursday we are going to another town to kick off our "new library". We are starting a process so that, in a couple of months, all libraries in our county will be one unit, with shared inventory. Basically, whereever you live in the county, all books at all the libraries will be available for you, to order books to come to your local library. It will be awesome! It's a slow process to get the computer stuff to work (I get to hear all about the problems since Urban is part of that work group).

And yes @faerywings --- I want to see a photo. (and I want a halloween pajama!!!)

@bcgal00 & @faerywings Oh yes, I agree ... the 1st are always hard, but after that it does get easier. 2nd Christmas after my sister passed, we could all laugh about some of the crazy things she'd done during Christmas. When the first petrifying grief is gone, you can start to remember with warmness and fondness instead. Hope you understand what I mean ... feeling I'm not sure about the English words for the feelings I'm talking about.

Morning everyone. Yes, the balloons are up and drifting here and there. I tried to get some photos this morning but since the balloon field is to the east of my house, most of the photos were taken pointing right into the sun! The wind "box" is keeping most of them about 5+ miles to the east of my neighborhood today. The festival will go on for another 9 days so should have a good chance that they will be over our neighborhood some time during it.

Finally feeling well enough to get dressed. Also, didn't want to shock the neighbors too much by being outside in a robe/PJs taking photos... :D Most of these side-effects from the Covid Booster have faded... just feeling tired still. I am sure that will also diminish in the next few days. I will be seeing my primary care doc on Tues for a follow-up visit. The good news is that I haven't been having the 'coldness' then 'hot' on the same day for over the past 10 days or so.

@BrightEyesOh wow, this vax really kicked your butt again. I am getting nervous, I know I have to get mine but when?? I'm glad that you have been resting and my fingers are crossed that you get some really awesome pictures of the balloons today.
Chris, don't let what happened to me keep you from getting your Covid booster... I am pretty sure the stress of the last month and my health issues had more to do with how intense the side-effects for me were. Had a couple of friends get theirs and they had minimal side-effects.

Hope to be back to 'normal' soon and then will try to get back to doing 'personals' again.

Good morning ladies. We are spending the morning looking at health insurance carriers. We carried over the plan we had thru D's work when he retired in January. Then we found out we don't get the same plan, it is much worse and is costing us a fortune. So D talked to a broker who sent us 4 companies to look at. They all seem to have better plans than the one we have but none of them are great but we don't have a choice, we have to pick one and we'll end up paying out of pocket quite a bit yearly b/c the plans won't cover anywhere close to what we need. D just had his eye exam and ordered new glasses a few days ago and it ended up costing him almost $1000 for his portion. That is insane. Good thing I won't need new glasses for a few years, I got mine before his old plan expired and bought in Vancouver where it is cheaper.

I was sluggish and tired yesterday, maybe a post-covid thing b/c I heard that you can have good days and then all of a sudden the fatigue hits out of the blue. So I spent 3 hrs in bed, had dinner and then laid on the floor to watch tv for a bit before bed. Today I feel fine again. Weird.

I ordered a photo manual for my nikon p950 camera that was recommended on a photog forum. I want to get into the custom features and see what I can do with it. I watched a video that showed how to assign a function to a side button that makes changing the shutter speed really easy and fast. I'm hoping it comes today but the way amazon is now these days, it could be today, tomorrow or whenever.

Still haven't gotten the muffins made so really want to get that done today before the blueberries go bad.

@faerywings That sounds like an amazing night. Enjoy today.

@LSlycord I laughed when you told Chris to close her ears about the non-celebrating of Halloween lol. I can totally see her doing that. We are 50° this morning but afternoon will warm up to mid 70's. I love this weather.

@vickyday Hope the basement leaking isn't too bad.

@tanteva Yes, the library system amalgamating will be great. I laughed about the ketchup talk LOL. I smothered my scrambled eggs and peppers in ketchup last night :)

@taxed4ever Yes, the dogs are loving it here, so many places to take them.

@BrightEyes Glad you are starting to feel better and hope you get the balloon pics.

Time to hop in the shower and get on with my day.

@LSlycord @bcgal00 Unfortunately, LOTS of cleanup will need to be done in the woods before we can even drive back through there. Poor hubby! BUT, the basement only leaked a small bit and NOT in the area where he has already worked to seal the wall, thank the Lord! The ground must have been drier than we thought and soaked up most of the rain! We don't even have too many standing puddles where they normally are in the yard!

Took a break for lunch and to check in.....now, back to cooking for me! I need to get my shower first, however. I'm going to the church early to sweep up some bugs that have congregated since we haven't used the fellowship hall much in the pandemic! I am hoping we get back to our monthly fellowships soon!

Chris, Steph's not doing very well. Her condo is really bad - they say she can't move in yet. She doesn't know what she's going to do. They still have NO power and NO water - going on day 4. Yes, Ft. Myers took a direct hit!! We always said that if it ever did, the devastation would be terrible, and it is!! I'm not doing very well, either - I'm glued to the TV - she's starting to send me some pics - it looks like a war zone. She doesn't know anything, and she's so upset and so am I. I just keep seeing all of the places I love - destroyed - and my heart is breaking! Their communication is so limited because they have nothing - I've been trying to keep her updated. Now they're worried about a levy's breaking on one of the rivers - they have another major highway closed down. There's NO gas, but some of the groceries and convenient stores, even Walmart's are open. People need food and supplies IF they can get there.

Hello girls,

I'm kind of "Looney Tunes" today - have been for the last few days. Everything takes me twice as long to do. Very preoccupied. I've been scrapping like a ninja - it keeps my mind occupied. I always do that because it's my "zone out therapy". It took me forever to close out my September threads last night. LOL So, if you see me doing something stupid, just chalk it up to my more than usual cray cray-ness.

Linda, it's just killing me - knowing what they're going through and there's nothing I can do about it. She has a home that she can't get back into and a job that she can't go to. There are just so many ramifications to something like this!!! They have NO power, NO water, NO gas to be had. They're staying with friends, but that HAS to be getting old, with no A/C etc. Nobody knows what to do at this point. I'm sure she won't lose her job, good grief - nobody can even get in there! Her landlord can't kick them out - that would be illegal. It does no good to try to tell her these things, though.

Oooooh boy, three jam-packed days in a row and I am wiped out. And soooo darn far behind in everything that needs to get done. I have Halloween boxes all around the LR/DR areas, laundry is piling up, and papers are scattered all over my desk, eep. I also have to write some things that I need intelligence and coherence for and as you all get to experience every day here-- that isn't always something I can pull off all that well.
No one in my family wants to give the toast at the engagement party so that is on me. I have been rolling some ideas around in my head. I have to sit down, get it in a rough draft then send it to my BFF who is a writer. I'll have her proof and copyedit for me. I also signed up to send "get out the vote" postcards. It needs to be a short, personal note saying why it is important to me to vote without referencing any specific candidate. It will take me longer to craft my message than it will be to write the 20 letters. ;)

The family party was great! My SIL and Christoper weren't able to be there, he had games and they only cancel if it is a thunderstorm. They won't be at the engagement party either. :(
Juliet called in from vet school which was fantastic! Annnnd- I got to meet my new nephew. His name is Mac (Sir McDougall to be precise), he is 8 months old and has brown spots on his ear. He also had four legs and a tail, in case you were wondering ♥
BIL/SIL lost both of their dogs within a month or so of each other but Campbells tend to need lots of animals around so no surprise they rescued a puppy. My niece, Sadie, brought her new bearded dragon over too. My family is the kookiest, best thing ever. Sam said how good it feels to be around family that is laughing and it gives her some hope. She also has a fun idea for Caitlyn to try on wedding dresses which is going to be a surprise party for her (fun and low-key). We are going to see what we can come up with after the holidays are over. Sam is a *lot* of fun to be around even after all of the s*** she and her fam have been through.

Today I have a to-do list a bazillion miles long. Scott is only working until 6 so we get to have the 5 of us at dinner (Tom is #5 tonight). Then the 4 of us (minus Scott) have plans to watch The Crow. Good start to Spook-tober :D

@LSlycord heh, I use the * for "degree" too. One day I will figure out the actual symbol and will still use * cuz it is easy.
I have been seeing that one of the few good things post-Ian is that the temps and humidity have been somewhat reasonable for the people without power. I sure hope it stays that way. Did Syd make it back to school with no problems on the roads?
That is really neat learning about some of Trinidad's culture and history from Jianna.
Hugs to Andie, hope she is back to herself today.
Caitlyn wouldn't be able to help with the exact program, but if Syd ever wanted to run ideas past her, I know she would do what she can to help.

@vickyday Ugh about your basement getting water, ours does too and we would need French drains put in to stop it from happening. $$$$ that we don't have :(
How was the church party? Lots of food and fun, I am sure!

@tanteva You always make me smile (and throw up in disgust over your ketchup). The work trip sounds like a lot of fun. That is how our library is run and it is wonderful to be able to request and borrow books from all over. I hope that the process of computerizing it all goes smoothly.
When Caitlyn asked me which Halloween PJs I wanted to borrow, I swear, it looked like she emptied half of her closet for me to choose from LOL! Do they not sell Halloween PJs in Sweden? Give it time, the US's capitalistic take on all holidays spreads everywhere at some point ;)

@bcgal00 Ugh, that is one of the worst things ever, looking for health insurance plans that 1. are affordable and 2. cover the things that need to be covered. Bonus 3. has your Drs in their plans. Were you successful in choosing one?
It wouldn't surprise me that all of the stress from the past few days triggered some of the long-covid symptoms. Glad that you were able to rest instead of pushing through.
That is really cool to be able to "customize" the functions on your new lens. Have a great time playing around with it.

@Cherylndesigns Oh poor Steph, how heartbreaking to lose so much of her home. And how awful for you to not be able to do anything physically to help. You can tell yourself over and over that you can replace "things" but I bet it doesn't help when it feels like you lost everything.
Be gentle with yourself, of course, you are going to be super-distracted. Remember we are all here for you too!

Hugs!!

Good morning. 62* and going to 84. Absolutely beautiful weather! Syd texted last night...they (7 of them) took the bus to the movies for an 8:00 showing but by the time the bus got them there, they didn't have seats left so they decided to wait for the 10:00 show and went to Culvers instead. She texted me from Culvers. Today they have a noon football game and the weather will be perfect. I love how she just texts me right in the middle of her activities. Just a few sentences but it makes me feel so good!

Shaun and I spent most of the day trying to get his phone traded in. Unbelievable how bad customer service is! I believe that we finally got it figured out but we won't know for sure until it shows up next week. He wanted the 14 Pro so not a big screen like I'm getting but the good camera.

Other than that, I got one page done. And nothing exciting planned today.

@faerywings I did look up how to do the degree symbol. It is way too much work...so I am sticking with the * symbol as well. It sounds like you have a good day ahead. Has Scott heard anything about the job yet? Having two kids looking for jobs at the same time would be too much...and, as I typed that, I realized that is a real possibility at my house as well. Good grief! And I'm sorry that Christopher and your SIL weren't able to attend. But, having just come off that season of life with sports dominating everything, I do get it.

@BrightEyes thinking of you this morning. Hoping that you are feeling better today. And that there are gorgeous hot air balloons filling the sky for you when the sun comes up this morning.

@tanteva that work trip sounds fantastic! I used to travel a lot for work (before kids) and I got tired of it but I'm sure missing some human interaction. Between Chris' attending a Halloween party and you getting to take a work trip, I'm feeling pretty jealous.

@vickyday I'm sure sorry about the woods clean up that will be needed. Hopefully the new cabin didn't take any damage. And how was the fellowship last night? I'm sure it was great!

@bcgal00 I can totally sympathize over the health insurance costs. I just flipped to Medicare as of yesterday and it is expensive. I have my choices made for my Medicare Supplement and drug coverage although they will announce new rates for next year so I may need to pick a new plan. It is a mess. And we need to get Brian and the kids new coverage...which just makes me so depressed. Anyway, enough on that subject. Glad that you were able to get some rest and that it helped.

@Cherylndesigns I just keep thinking about Steph and Asher...and the worry you must be feeling! There is so much devastation...and we see it constantly on the news and in my Facebook feed. So glad that you can get into a scrapping zone to provide some relief. Any chance that they could just get in the car and drive up to spend a week with you? To get them re-powered. Of course, finding gas isn't an easy task either. Thinking of them constantly.

The church meal was good.......so I'm told! My IBS kicked in and, after standing on my feet cooking all day, I couldn't eat! I was wiped out and went to bed at an unheard of hour......11:30! I was practically asleep before my head hit the pillow!

Never heard of French drains, but we have no money for a project like that, either! So it doesn't matter, LOL! Hubby is quite the handyman, so he usually tackles jobs like that himself, anyway! He has the equipment for digging the trench, but hopefully he will not have to go that route since it seems the work on the inside helped a lot!

Thank the Lord, the trees that came down were near the cabin, but did not hit it! The fellowship at church was great! Unfortunately my IBS kicked in and I couldn't eat! Oh well! It is what it is!

Just a note before heading out to church this morning.
The meal at church last night turned out well, so I am told! My IBS kicked in and I couldn't eat. Bummer! I fixed Mexican cornbread for the first time to go with the chili and everyone raved about how good it was! DH said the chicken stew was "EXCELLENT!" The ladies brought things like chips, relish tray items, deviled eggs and desserts! One lady brought some Taco soup. Best of all was the fellowship we were able to have! The pandemic sure put the qui-e-tess (sp?) on our get-togethers! Hopefully that is past!

Lots of catch-up work to do today after church.......the good fairies did not do my dishes from yesterday's cooking bonanza, so that means I've been elected, LOL!

Such is life!
Have a great day!

Love hearing about all your weekends. :). It's Monday here and I got up at 2.30 am because otherwise I fall back into crazy dream territory and clench my teeth. After two days of bad headaches I'll take sleep deprived but painfree any day :p Hopefully DH and I will squeeze in a midday nap!

It's supposedly Spring here but utterly miserable (wet and cloudy but with added hayfever - yay!!)

giphy.gif

We bought an air purifier for M thinking she can take it with her when she moves into student housing/a shared apartment (because she's more likely to be exposed to both Covid and mould!). She started using it in her room and now when she gets up she looks so much better and without the constant sniff (even though it's 5am when she gets up for work!) so that's a win. Poor girl is the atopic poster girl :(. We had a purifier in her room when she was little and the asthma/hayfever was really bad but clearly we should have just kept it.

@faerywings I love that hilarious gif, and your PJ and movie night sounds like so much fun :)
@LSlycord have fun planning the trip ... increasingly I think that's the best part of travel. ;-)
@vickyday hope there's not too many nasty surprises in the basement and the clean up is easy
@tanteva that sounds tiring but interesting! And whenever I read your posts I get a little nostalgic for my own librarian days :)
@BrightEyes hoping 'normal' arrives very soon. :)
@Cherylndesigns So scary reading about the damage in Florida. And I know what you mean about the looney tunes days... it's like "calm down brain!!"
@bcgal00 Keep resting when you need to!

Slept in late this morning - 8AM! I had gone to bed early last evening - around 8PM to read. Not sure when I fell asleep but woke up at 11PM with book still in hand and turned the light off. Will probably have to re-read some pages to get caught up on the story. ;) I am up and dressed just in case the hot air balloons come this way so I can get some photos. It was cloudy and overcast but the sky seems to be clearing. Yes, the balloons are launching but haven't come this way so far. I am feeling better today... most of the aches/pains are gone so should be back to 'normal' in another day or 2. I did manage to get a Color Play LO made yesterday. DSon#2 Jeff and his wife Debbie were in Switzerland this past week. She talked Jeff into taking a kite/parasailing adventure while up on one of the alps. Just had to use the photo on the LO. The photos of their travels there brought back so many wonderful memories of when Bill and I were there.

@faerywings Sorry you are feeling so jammed with activities, etc going on. Hope things ease up a bit so you can catch your breath and get some rest. I am sure you will do a great toast at the engagement party... just speak from your heart.

@Cherylndesigns My heart aches for your family in FL and what they are dealing with.

@LSlycord Glad your area was spared the worse of Ian. I heard from my friends (about 30 miles west of Jacksonville) and they were also spared the worse of Ian. So glad that Syd was home with you during the storm. So wonderful that she is texting and keeping you up on what she is doing. Will be keeping the healing thoughts going for Shaun.

@vickyday So sorry your IBS kept you from the community feast. Glad that the trees that fell didn't hit the cabin. I have heard about French drains but know they are expensive to put in. So happy that his work on the walls kept a lot of the water out.

Ooops... just remembered I haven't taken my meds. Have to cut the BP pills in half and then fill the week's pill box. So better get that done then take my pills. CYL

Thanks so much, Chris. It's SO good to know that you're all here for me. I did tell her that the O family sent their hugs and love.
