Again, I beg of you... Why can someone so tired not be able to sleep????
I woke up at 4. Tried to get back to sleep but the brain started running away from me. Listened to my ipod but still couldn't get my brain to slow down, let alone turn off. By 5.15, I was cold and had to pee... might as well get my day started...

*sighs*

I shopped yesterday. Well, only online! No way will you get me out on Black Friday. Nope nope nope (I hate people on a good day!)
I wanted to get a travel mug for Cait's bf with his favorite band's logo on it but they are sort of an indie/underground band so I downloaded the logo and Gary and I fixed it up to put on a stainless steel tumbler. I was able to get it at artscow and they had a 35% off sale so I uploaded my brother and SIL's gift to get it printed 12x12 on canvas. Then Gary found a $20 off coupon which made it cheaper than with the 35% off.
I found a really pretty beaded bracelet on Overstock for Leah that was on sale and I had 15% off. And last, I was able to get a t-shirt for Scott and a tank for Caitlyn by this really amazing local artist- also all on sale.
The best part of it all? I was able to use paypal for all of it. I cashed in reward points for a survey site that I belong to. I thought it was for $40. But b/c I am a dork when it comes to numbers- it was actually $120!!!! Yay for Christmas shopping with Paypal!

Those were really good deals and I scrapped another page for my IL's book so I feel like I am getting "somewhere" with Christmas.

Today Cait and I are taking Merlin to the vet :(
Poor baby, he looks terrible, but just purrs and purrs when you pet him. He got my kids through some really tough times years ago. I hope that I don't have to make a decision, I always want my fur-babies to go when they are ready. But sometimes it can't be helped.

After that, not sure what I am going to do. Scrap more of IL's book? Faery-wings products? Did I tell you that I ordered coffee bean butter to make a body scrub? OMG it smells delicious!!!! I cannot wait to get working with that!!

QOTD
Did you have pets as a child? What kind?
I did not have pets as a kid, unless you count some disgusting goldfish I won at a carnival or the little chameleon that I killed inadvertently because I couldn't deal with feeing it mealworms (eeeewwww!!) so I dumped the whole container of them in there and it ate itself to death.
But ever since we have been married we have always had a collection of pets; cats, dogs, frogs, snakes, rats, fish, Bunny, even a praying mantis. I can't imagine my life/home without pets in it-- furry ones preferably though.

Hope that you all slept later than I did and that you have a wonderful day!

Oh Trudy- I feel your pain with the calendars. I have 9 LO's done and that means 11 more to go. MIL only gave me 50 photos to work with which is hard. Then to make matters harder, The wife of the couple that they went with killed herself a week ago- so I don't know if I should include her or not. MIL was going to order a second copy for the husband
:(
And I am also with you about not feelin' the holiday season this year, at least not yet. but damn! It is now less than 4 weeks away!
Oooh, man, your MIL sounds like a piece of work, admitting that one is the favorite! Yikes!

nancy- how did the Devils do last night? Were they able to keep the momentum from practice going? I hope so, I know you have been bummed out by them recently.
I love pecan pie! But no one else here eats it. I saw on Pinterest a pecan pie thumbprint cookie recipe, that might be more "Serving size friendly."LOL

jean-
DH commented that we hadn't seen the turkey (one was around last winter). Next area we checked, there it was! Our Thanksgiving turkey. We roasted the smallest chicken we found at the store and still only ate half. At home a different sparrow was under the feeder
The way I read this had me laughing out loud! You saw the wild turkey, then you ate a chicken and then you saw a sparrow. It is like the Sesame Street game, which of these things does not belong hahahahaha!!!

lOve the O!
Morning O fam- I am home- there was some question about being able to get back home when my car suddenly flashed- service traction control - reduced engine power- on my way to my brothers. It started out ok on the way back and then 2 hours from home, kicked in again- so embarrassing to have a tractor trailer pass you going uphill. We won't discuss the huge dent I put in the back/side of my car running into a tree when I was trying turn around in his driveway. The family time was great. Now to upload layouts, check out sales and spend the day with my hubby. Maybe even post away to meet my November goal!

Morning ladies... just a quick post this morning as hubby wants to hit Costco today. Really?? I do not want to got because winter arrived here last night and we got a couple of inches of the white stuff :smow: How can a place go from everyone wearing T-shirts and shorts two days ago to total winter cold weather?? Oh well it was bound to happen sooner or later. I just would have preferred it to be later!

Chris - Sorry you had another crappy nights sleep!! hopefully you can fit in a nap later on today!! Good luck on your MIL's book, hard to know weather to include the dead wife's photos, but she was a part of the experience, so I guess she should be in the book.

Laurie - Happy to hear that you made it home safely! Oh nooo about the car!! That's the trouble with these fancy cars now, so much more to go wrong with them!! Hope its nothing serious and that it is still under warranty! Too bad about the dent also!! Yikes not a good start to your drive home!

QOTD - always had pets growing up, dogs, cats, turtles, even chickens, but we were very much cat people and always had at least two or three of them. Miss my Mr. Abu!! :hurt:

 to everyone else, I have to get going!! Have a great day all!!

Good morning - well yesterday brought back some ole time memories. When my oldest (must have been in his early 20s) wanted to go to a hockey game and they had me drive so they could drink. I felt that was a great bargain! Well last night the kids were partying before and during the game so again I was the designated driver and proud of it. I can see why they kids drank. The Devils were leading 4-1 and lost 5-4 in a Shoot Out. And I lost my two top centers to injuries and the Devils play tonight. Good thing I love my Devils! They play tonight on Long Island so I will be able to watch and yell from the comfort of my home. Otherwise I am reading the last Outlander book. I must get out and walk today. Enjoying leftovers too much.

Chris I feel bad you cannot sleep but I sometimes remember when I had trouble that it was because I thought too much. It sounds like you have so much on your mind it cannot rest. I found that to get my mind to rest I had to think of things that made me happy so I would recite things in alphabetically order. Too funny but it helped. I am totally impressed by your shopping ability.

Laurie so so sorry about your car problems. Glad you had some great family time!

Trudy driving home last night I started to see more home decorated for Christmas and I must say that is helping me feel more in the spirit.

Have a great day all!

Is it Saturday already? Sometimes loose track. DH has Ohio State game on TV but I'm leaving soon for the historical society to do research in microfilms I ordered there. Weather warmer today, above freezing and dry.

Chris, glad our birds could make you laugh! I too am impressed with your shopping prowess! I know the brain racing feeling, but don't experience it often. Sometimes I just think made-up stories in my head to fall back to sleep. Must sound weird, but it has often worked for me. Guess my stories aren't too riveting!

Laurie, ouch on the car! Hope it is easily made OK. But the family time was good and I gather no weather problems.

Trudy, sorry you got the snow too, but sooner or later guess it had to happen. Good luck braving Costco!

Nancy, really, the Devils are giving you a hard time! Hope tonight is better.

QOTD: growing up we always had cats and I love them but we have only had one since we married, adopted from my FIL. That cat was a sweetie. I guess our "pets" are the birds visiting the yard.

hiya. well one down, one to go!! Thanksgiving was actually pretty nice. lots of people, largely because my niece had two little boys, then gave birth to boy TRIPLETS, so there were loads of little boys running around. it snowed unexpectedly after dinner, but not much. the cars were all iced up, but happily the roads weren't.

Chris, are you listening to MUSIC on your iPod when you can't sleep? if so, try an audiobook that you are already familiar with. the trick for me is not to actually LISTEN to what's being said, but just letting someone read me to sleep. good luck. now's the time of year a woman needs sleep more than ever! and, hey! you are an expert shopper. that all worked out great.

Trudy, i had to read what you wrote about the snow TWICE! how weird!! hope you talked DH out of going to Costco. i just got back from the grocery store, and the car and people traffic are too much for me. i prefer what goes on on, e.g., Tuesday morning at 9:30. meaning NOTHING goes on then.

Nancy, maybe next game someone else can be the designated driver and YOU can drink. what's happened to the Devils??

Jean, i feel like it's Sunday! all this time with DH at home always throws off my reckoning. the microfilm afternoon sounds like fun. i really enjoyed my trips to the library when i was researching the family history.

Laurie, holy cow!! well, i guess at least you didn't hit bad weather, on top of the other car stuff!

Hubby and i spent yesterday evening emptying out my closet so that i could crawl into the space where the Christmas decos live. always a Holiday Buzz Killer. but i have everything downstairs and am trying to distribute it around the house. DD is coming for an early dinner so she can make off with some tree decorations for her tree at her apartment. i've had Pride and Prejudice on all morning/afternoon to keep me moving. i feel like i want to just stop and have a NAP! i think we'll crack out some Cheap Champagne for an accompaniment to our taco dinner. nothing like culinary dissonance.

hope everyone's enjoying the day. see ya! :becky:

Good morning, and Happy Sunday to all of you! Last day of our 5 day weekend, if you count the extra we had because of snow.
I slept better last night. I did wake up and it was pitch dark and I thought, Oh no, it is another early morning. But it was 6am, so that is dealable.

I was pretty much fried all day yesterday and I got next to nothing done. Cait and I took Merlin in to the vet at 10.30 and it was not good news at all. Not that we expected good news, but it confirmed our fears. We had an x-ray done, and he has a late stage cancer/tumor blocking much of his bowel. The very gave him an emema to see if that would make him more comfortable since he isn't eating well or pooping much at all. As of dinner time last night he still hadn't gone. She said that it could be days, or weeks- but if he doesn't start eating again, then he is telling us it is time.
OMG, I am going to start crying again...
He was featured in my last year Christmas Card (as well as several Halloween LO's)
merlin_santa.jpg

When things were crazy in my house when Gary first got sick, he was such a source of comfort to the kids. He would know when they needed him and let them cry on him, purring all the while.
We got him many years ago. Our cat, PJ, had died very unexpectedly (heart attack belive it or not) and Gary and the kids thought the answer was to go get another cat, the very next day. I was sad and angry and did not want to get a cat. The four of went to shelter to shelter (me, under protest;) ) to look for a kitten. We got to the last shelter on our way home and while they didn't have kittens, they let us play with some of the adult cats. Merlin (his Shelter Name was Desi) would not leave us alone. He came up to us and just plopped himself in front of us and purred.
So he came home with us.
He is just a special cat and I don't know what we are going to do without him.
I don't want to see him in pain and I don't want to be the one to have to make a decision for him. I know it is the right thing, but why does it have to be so hard?

OK, I'd better post this, I can't see the keys through my tears...

Sorry for being such a downer:(

morning - Chris I am so sorry about your Merlin. He looks just like our Shadow. I don't want to make that decision either but I think once you decide to get a pet you know that day will come. My Devils lost again. They put up a good fight but in the end they just could not put the puck in the net. I did get in a good walk. As I was walk through a wooded section there was a group of four does. They did not even run. They were really close too. I finished the Outlander series. I could not wait! But on the good side I got a great start on my 2015 Calendar. Showed it to my son and we both agreed on the ones we really like and the ones we were not sure of so today I can look again and decide how to correct. I will walk again today as it is supposed to get near 50.

Chris you are not a downer but a very caring person! Thanks for sharing the photo!

Phylis love the idea of listening to someone read me to sleep. I used to go to sleep listening to either a baseball game or hockey game when I went to bed early while I was working. Glad your Thanksgiving went so well. I really can't imagine how your niece handles 5 boys. And the reason I am the DD is because I don't drink. LOL.

Jean your research sounds so interesting! Hope you find lots of cool tidbits!

Trudy hope the trip to Costco went well.

Have a great Sunday - I thought yesterday was Sunday, having husbands home messes up lots of stuff LOL.

Chris, SO sorry about the bad news about Merlin. this is such a dreadful thing to have to decide. it about killed me when we put our German Shepherd to sleep back in the '80s. i never got a dog after that. and now i'm worrying about my 12-year-old kitty, because you always know that at some point a decision will have to be made. i hope Merlin will go peacefully. this is so sad. (((hugs)))

Ah, Chris, what sad news about Merlin. No matter that we've been there before, we can't help loving our cats.

Hope others are having a good Sunday.

Thank you all so much. When I checked in on him and Cait this morning, he had taken another turn for the worse. He is not eating or drinking, can't walk. WE have been taking turns being with him. If he somehow makes it through the night, we are making an appt to have him euthanized tomorrow. :(
