Did I scare you?

Yup, it is one of my family's favorite holidays today and it's such a bummer that the kids won't be home, at least not until much later. Man, I really miss the days when they were little and would be bugging out over getting dressed up and trick-or-treating. The big "dress up" today is getting the dogs to wear their Halloween bandanas.

How was everyone's weekend? The weather turned out to be incredible yesterday and I spent some more time raking leaves. They aren't even close to being all down but I try to stay on top of it so I can at least sort of find the hidden dog poop. I really worked up a sweat out there. I will probably try to do a bit more today especially since the trick-or-treaters get excited and run on the lawn to see the skeletons. :)
Aside from that, I have a few end-of-the-month Cheery O things I need to work on.
And food shopping... my goodness why is everything so expensive? That is the only other thing I need to do-- shop and stay within the budget

Have a wonderful day!

@LSlycord Glad to hear that you are feeling better, you really did a lot of your trip. Whatever happened with the job interview?
I hope that you have enough time this week to relax and catch up on scrapping.
Mmm-- how did the soup and homemade bread come out? That is a combo I love to make in the winter and I am sure it was good!

@BrightEyes That's too bad about regular writing causing the arm and hand to tingle. Good luck with all appts this week. Make sure you rest in between all of them xo

@vickyday good to hear that your head is better

@bcgal00 How did your friend do on the ride with the dogs? Do you have seatbelts for them? Technically inNJyou need to have your dogs restrained but I don't know anyone who does. I don't take these 2 around as much as I did with Harley and Ray. They went everywhere with me.
But it was her decision to join us so she has to go with the flow (dog pee breaks, play time, etc),
This had me cackling like a true dog mom!! Truth!! LOL

@Cherylndesigns I cannot wait to see those pictures even if they are a little dark. The jumping spider would get me every time too- like I said, I refuse to rake one section of my lawn b/c Lawnmower man freaks me out when I see him out of the corner of my eye. Sound slike you had a really run time and I bet you looked fab!

TTYS!!

Good morning lovely ladies. And good-bye to October! The homemade bread and potato soup turned out well but that used up most of my energy for the day and I really did nothing else but catch up on TV shows. And, now Brian has this crud. Good news is that I think I really do feel better today...fingers crossed.

Trip stats...we drove 3,383 miles in 12 days. I'm not sure that we will be doing that again...but I enjoyed every minute of it. We saw both of my living aunts and my uncle. My dad's sister is 91, my dad's brother and his wife are both 83. I loved seeing all of them. Also spent time with two cousins and their spouses. Plus I saw 3 of my 4 nieces and my nephew, my great-niece and 2 great-nephews and brother and sister-in-law. Spent the night with friends that we haven't seen in 5 years and dinner with friends that we see each time we go back to Iowa.

Talked to Syd a couple of times yesterday...she was bored and didn't want to do homework. Made plans for lunch on Thursday...she asked if I have a job and the answer is still no. I need to get to work on that I think...I've been off work long enough and I need to get some structure again. Talked about Thanksgiving...I asked what she wanted for Thanksgiving dinner and she said everything that we always have...then she listed off each item and asked if she forgot anything. She didn't. She asked if I'd bring some frozen taco meat and frozen sloppy jo meat when we come on Thursday. Of course I will!

Today, I really will catch up with my Cheery-O work. And scrap some photos. And catch up on life....

Happy Halloween right back at you Eva. I'm sorry that your work schedule is so light when the extra money would help with the wildly inflated prices of food and heat. But I hope that it does give you some time to enjoy yourself. Glad that the trip was good. I hear what you are saying about eating. I'm thinking about joining WW. (That's me...always thinking about it.) I did hear that they are rolling out a new plan so we will see.

I always liked dressing the kids up for Halloween. We never went crazy, but one year we made a robot costume for our son out of cardboard boxes and dryer vent hose, all sprayed with silver paint. He won first prize at the fire house that year which was pretty cool! Living in the country pretty much puts the end to handing out candy. The kids just don't come. Mom and dad take them to the neighborhoods where the houses are stacked on top of each other.

I agree with you. The sad thing is that once the prices are up for the groceries, they rarely ever go back down. The budgeted monies don't buy half of what they used to!

@faerywings glad that the side effects of the vaccine didn't hit too hard. Once I get over this bug, I need to get out and get a flu shot. How is Scott? Does he still like his new vehicle? Does he feel like things are different now that he and Sam are officially a couple? Does he like the new job? And Cait hasn't heard anything about the job yet has she? Happy Halloween to you. I know what you are saying about the memories of when the kids were little. Kept asking when they could put their costumes on..."Is it time yet? Is it time now?" LOL Such good memories!

@vickyday it sounds like you had a great trip while I was gone. Perfect time spent with family. And the grocery thing definitely has me worried. These prices are crazy. I noticed that they were much less in Iowa than they are here in Florida. Florida is an expensive place to live but I have two college students who pay in state tuition so we aren't going anywhere for at least 3 more years. From the looks of the FB group that I follow on the Blue Ridge Parkway, you are still getting awesome weather. Bet the bike rides this time of year are splendid when you can fit them into the daylight and sunshine.

@BrightEyes I am sure sorry that you are having such a time with the hand and arm. Glad that you were able to get a layout scrapped and glad that you check in to let us know how you are doing, even if it is only for a short message and that you need to take breaks.

Good morning to you all!
Rainy and in the 50's here today. It's Monday, for sure! A good day to stay in and play! Although I do need to sweep as the poodle keeps licking the carpet where DH has been, LOL!

It was a quiet weekend here. Basically the only thing I did was some laundry, cook and go to a football game of one of the "adopted" grands. He is a senior and it was senior night where they recognized the seniors and what their plans were after graduation. Most were going into "Exercise Science" which I have no idea what that's supposed to be. Mark said it was basically studies so they could continue playing sports, LOL!

I made pork chops and gravy, rice and broccoli spears for Friday night.
I made turkey breast, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing and more broccoli spears (I think). Mark is the only one who eats them.
I made a pot roast in the crockpot for Sunday.
I cooked more this weekend than I generally do all week! I love fixing BIG meals so Mark can eat on the left overs throughout the week! With working out in the woods, he pretty much wiped everything out this weekend, however!

Have a great day!

We had a great trip! Sounds like you did, too! Ain't nothing like spending time with family! Yes, the leaves are beautiful and the weather has been perfect! However, by the time Mark comes home from work (he's working about 47 hours per week, including some on Saturday) and then works in the woods, there hasn't been much bike riding! It turned cool so fast this year that we (I) don't like riding in it! I would LOVE to take a ride on the Blue Ridge Parkway to get some pictures, however!

@taxed4ever I am so sorry to hear that your in-laws were not able to sell the house. The market there sounds much like here. Hopefully it will be better in the spring and everyone makes it through the winter ok. They have an awful lot going on with their health don't they? And both of them at once... But it will be nice to have your SIL Linda closer. Very sorry to hear about your niece.

Good morning ladies. Yesterday turned out to be a full day of driving, walking around, taking photos and grabbing food on the road as we drove the back roads to Merritt and Logan Lake yesterday. We were gone for 8 hours. My friend was in love with Remi. Remi walked along with her as she took photos and was so impressed with her manners. She kept laughing as Remi would hang her head and a paw outside the back window as she leaned over from the back hatch area, as we were driving. She would get so excited over each new area we stopped at, running up and down the back roads, finding sticks (3 of them are still in the car as she brought them along LOL). I took scenery shots along the way of the fall colors. I like the route for the small lakes along the way which will be fun to stop at in the spring when the birds start coming back. Most of our birds migrate for the winter, returning in spring. The swans are arriving to the area, got a few photos of them. Today I'm running errands, making soup in the crockpot, scrapping and putting up Xmas lights. We put some out on the back porch but not sure how long they will last. The instructions say not to get the power box wet but they are outdoor lights (so shouldn't they be ok in the outside weather???). We will get another strand and put them up under the porch roof where they will stay drier. We need one more set for the front of the house, D put them up while I was out yesterday and didn't quite have enough to reach the far side of the house.

The dogs will be kept downstairs tonight so they don't bark at the door each time the kids come. Hopefully there will be little fireworks (its been banned but you know some teens will still set some off) as Taz gets very stressed at the noise.

@faerywings Food is outrageously priced here too and we have lots of low stock. Stores have also reduced the variety too so instead of maybe 10 types of pasta, they will stock 3-4 types. I try to buy sales and not waste much. That's about all I can do about it. As for the dogs, there is no bylaw about how they travel in a vehicle. There are very little rules for dogs here.

I'm hopping in the shower soon, then we'll head out for errands. I'll take the dogs to the park later to work off some energy before the hectic Halloween night starts and hopefully they will relax downstairs, not stressing over the constant activity at the door.

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Good morning @bcgal00. Sounds like yesterday was a great day. So glad that your friend enjoyed Remi and that you were able to spend so much time on your hike.

The lights sound delightful. We have lights hanging inside our lanai and we rarely use them at night but we almost always sit outside in the morning while drinking coffee.

Our dogs will be kept upstairs tonight and it's plenty warm enough that one of us will be outside handing out candy while the other will be in with the dogs. And Shaun will be the free agent, drifting in and out.

Hello lovelies!

Slept until 9 this morning and am getting ready to do a few things before Casey comes to clean. She was supposed to come Friday but it got to be so late and she asked if she could switch til today. We never care, so she'll be here this afternoon.

I'll try to get back in to do personals later on and take care of some end of the month business, too. I'm going to post a few pictures from the party - I'm not thrilled with them, but you take what you get, right? Best laid plans - Ava was going to take pictures, but she was having too much fun. I'm so happy that she put the camera down for a change and just enjoyed herself. She DID enjoy herself, too. LOL I was always the picture taker and you do miss out on "being there" when you're the designated photographer. I kind of handed the reins to the others and sometimes the pictures are just so-so. Anyway, here are a few from our fun night.

@Cherylndesigns I love the pictures. Looks like it was a really fun party. Glad that Ava got to rest from the photog job... I love your costume. The trip to Table Rock may have convinced Brian that he wants to move that way once the kids are out of college. We discussed a lot of places as we drove...pros and cons. But the hills of southwestern Missouri probably came in number 1. My nephew-in-law (the dad to the two great-nephews) said he voted for Table Rock since it is only a 6 hour drive and they could be down every other weekend. And, of course, for me that was enough to swing my vote to Table Rock.

Glad that you finally got through all of the after effects of the vaccine...that took forever. Have a good day.

Thanks, Linda! We sure did have a good time. I loved my costume, but I'd forgotten how big patterns were so unflattering. I bought one of those body shaper things, but couldn't stand it, so I didn't wear it. Looking at that picture, I should have. VWAHAHa

It sure is beautiful out this way!! I'm so glad you made it all around the area.
