Oh wow, I cannot believe that it is June! How and when did that happen? Cait made a tracker on her cell phone for how many days we have been in quarantine and loves to quiz Scott if only too see how little time means these days. Yesterday was Day 79. Or was it 81? I can't remember either!
Let's do some neck rolls today. I don't know about you but I can feel the stress of the last few days (weeks/months!) in my neck for sure.
Breathe in and roll your neck slowly forward towards your chest. Slowly as you can to the left. And then back. Now breathing slowly still, take your neck over to the right and then down to the chest. Repeats to the left, back, right, chest... and now to center. One more deep breath in and out.
I hope that helped!
It is sooooo darn cold here. The sun looks very pretty but darn, it is freezing. I will take sunny and cold over the rain. Scott helped me get some compost and soil into the little garden on the lawn. I was able to plant the eggplants in there, and the patio tomatoes into buckets. I replanted some of the herbs too. Even if we don't get any produce from them, they make the yard look pretty. And I am happy tending them.
I needed dirt therapy after the 2 hours of discussion with my kids about the state of the US. We were discussing how Newark and Camden NJ didn't have any violence, the police marched with them. I didn't know this before yesterday, but Camden NJs police force was dissolved and reformed a few years ago. They are now trained to use force only as a last resort, they are disciplined when they don't follow that. They are back to being beat cops so they now know the residents on a personal level. I can't remember the stats off the top of my head, but the crime rates have fallen as well as the use of force rates. It can be done. Caitlyn with her academic background in Psych and several courses in Black and Cross-Cultural Issues suggested that police should be required to take classes in these areas as well as in sociology, focusing on groupthink. It makes me hopeful when I see them interacting on social media intelligently with others trying to educate but not lecture. And Leah, my heart melts!!! She and other artists on Twitter have been auctioning off pieces to raise money for different organizations that are helping the black communities in need or with bail money for the protestors. More hope and more love being sent out. It felt good to have a discussion on how we as white people can be allies and how to keep us (white people in general) from co-opting their movement. I am also glad that they are so willing to learn about the things that we didn't learn in school. The Tulsa Massacre, the bombing of Philly in the 80s, Rosa Parks *before* she sat in the front of the bus.Not to mention the entire Reconstruction.
I have to, have to, have to keep on looking at the positives, hang on to the hope or I will get sucked under.
(See- this^^ is why I didn't want to type too much the other day because I would have kept going and it would be been emotional and rambling and I would have yelled and cried and yelled some more and been in despair. Who needs that? )
At dinner, we were joking about how Caitlyn has to burn her Good Luck/Happy New Year socks. Their friend Sam got them NY socks (Ian, Scott's best friend, and his GF is Sam, Scott, Leah, and Cait) and 2020 has been a Hellscape ever since. We were talking about all of the utterly bonkers things that have happened since they all got the socks. Did you hear about the monkeys that attacked a lab assistant and took off with vials of COVID blood samples In India?? Burn the socks, Cait!!!
Cait is driving me to the food store to pick up our groceries and then this afternoon I plan to do some more weeding. I think that as long as it stays dry outside, we will have the fire pit going tonight.
Gratitudes:
-sun
-dirt therapy
-that you all put up with me!
