Welcome to a new month everyone, and what a treat the weather is going to be. We are going to get up to 50, with a bit of rain. Yesterday was over 50 and sunny. I made it for a walk with BFFATS which was nice. First time we spent more than just a few minutes together since the holidays.

My IL's popped in too, which was nice too. They brought me the Turbo Tax stuff so I can get working on that (ugh-- soooooo many medical receipts!!!) and then update the kids' Financial Aid Apps.
MIL ordered a Lyme Disease Awareness bracelet for me for Xmas, Alex and Ani style, and it finally came in and I love it! And they brought food! Some frozen veggie lasagnas, frozen chicken pasta, and trail mix for Gary. We chatted while we watched some old Leverage episodes on TV. I have watched that series in full two times and they still crack me up, such a clever TV show.

Since I didn't get much done over the weekend, I have to make my plan of attack today and really get down to it. One of the bad things about not working is that I seem to just float through the days. When I have deadlines or appts, I seems to work much more efficiently. YKWIM?

It is also the first of the month, which means that Oscraps will be in full gear with new challenges!

It’s National Baked Alaska Day! Baked Alaska is a decadent dessert made with ice cream, sponge cake, and toasted meringue. Although the name “Baked Alaska” did not emerge until the 19th century, this dish is part of a long culinary tradition.
The concept of serving cream and cake together dates back to the Renaissance. The cooks of the era were the first to adorn their baked goods with a whipped topping. This laid the foundation for Baked Alaska, but it does not account for two of the dessert’s distinguishing characteristics—temperature and texture.
The Chinese were the first culture to cook pastry over an ice cream filling, which results in a delicious combination of hot and cold components. Credit is also due to the American physicist Benjamin Thompson, who experimented with the heat resistance of beaten egg whites and discovered how to make meringue.
Whether you prefer to call it Baked Alaska, glace au four, omelette a la norvegienne, or Norwegian omelette, celebrate National Baked Alaska Day with a scrumptious serving of this unique dessert!

Do you like Baked Alaska? I haven't ever had it, but I am not a fan of meringue. I do like the combo of hot and cold, like warm apple pie with ice cream.

Trudy- Gary and I were joking the other day about how boring we are too. We putter around the house during the day, then watch TV and fall asleep.
So sorry to hear that your brother bailed. Is he married or alone? Poor guy that he always feels sick.
Did you have a nice time with your sisters?

Caitlyn told me last night that her BFF is not coming with us for the Girls' Weekend we have planned in PA. It was going to be Cait and her BFF, my mom, me, Leah and her mom. Cait's BFF has social anxiety and was starting to get very stressed over it. Cait and I are both sad, but we understand where she is coming from. I feel the same way a lot of the time too.

Gotta post this, Cait just sent me some files that I need to print for her.

Trudy- Norwex looks great! Back in the day, we would order Melaleuca products, which sounds very similar. Now I do a lot of my cleaning with vinegar. Or I just don't clean at all. :pound:

Kat- I would get lost-- literally!!- in IKEA when we would shop there. It has been a long time since I have been there, but I bet it is still really cool. the veggie meat balls sound cool, something that Cait might like too.

Rae- mmmm, IHOP!!! I looooove their whole wheat/walnut pancakes (harvest something or other maybe?)
Nice win at the casino!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Woo hoo!!!!! That will help out with the new work changes.
Good thoughts to Bailey. I hope that she is ok.
Aren't theose dog toys amazing? The one I got a couple of weeks ago-still looking good!

Ok, now I have to go again to get Cait to the bus.

Oh yeah- the dog toys are amazing, esp for the price. We all chipped in and got J the Giant Wubba Kong ($25) and already has two tentacles chewed off.

........ and I am back again.... had to let the dogs out and then drag J back in.

Kat- I swear, I hate the FB algorithm. I almost never see things that Nancy posts, but for some reason, that video showed up.
Sorry to hear that Stan had mental health issues too. All 4 of us had/have them and you are totally right in wondering if they ever go away completely, For us, we don't know if the Lyme/Bartonella made things worse, or if they manifested more strongly because of the brain inflammation, or if it was from external stressors. Most likely a combination of all, and then some. It sure is a tough road, esp for men, IMHO.

Zanthia- Good for you getting some pages done! I am still so lost on that! hahah!!
I didn't see Grease live, how was it?

Good morning. Already had Luther out for his morning walk and now he is resting. Funny how dogs are. Luther loves to play tug of war while Rex loves to play fetch. Both will do the other but each has favorite. I watched the NHL All Star game and it was the best in years if not forever. It was like a fairy tale for John Scott and I could not be happier to see him get the recognition he deserved and all the 3rd and 4th line players deserve. NHL came out looking better than they deserved after trying to keep him out. Now off to grocery store.

Trudy my life is pretty boring and I like it calm.

Kat I don't know how Facebook works but I just post. Maybe we have to be friends.

Morning ladies... Happy Monday! What do you know it finally stopped raining for a bit and hopefully the sun will decide to make an appearance today. Yesterday's lunch was wonderful! My sisters and I had a great time laughing, chatting and toasting to our oldest brother on his 80th birthday (which is really today) We were sad that he could not join us, but no sense getting worked up about it. It is just the way he is, he worries so much about everything now and just makes himself sick over things.

Chris - My brother is alone now, his wife died a few years ago and he is living in the basement suite of his son's place. His son works of course so no one is there to keep him company during the day except his dog and two cats. He used to get out a lot and was very social, but he was a trucker and so liked spending time alone on the road too. Now he hardly ever leaves the house except to walk the dog. :sad: Even when we offer to come for a visit he puts us off. Sorry to hear that Cait's friend suffers from social anxiety it seems to be a more common problem these days, maybe because the world is getting more crowded :noidea: I was thinking that Norwex would be a great way for you to earn some extra $$ the lady who sells to me is #5 in all of Canada and she makes a really good living at it! If a person could get in and sell where it is new you could make a killing! I used to think about selling it years ago and wish I would have started back then! I love the products and they are very, very popular out here!

Nancy - I am off to check out your FB video of Luther, did not get a chance to see it yesterday. Yes the NHL should not have taken the credit that they did for John Scotts great story the way that they did. But the game was enjoyed by more than it has been for many years! Hope you get your grocery shopping done, I have to hit the store today too :mmph:

Kat, Zanthia and Rae :wave: hope your day is going well. Rae I am so sorry to hear about Bailey!! My niece is going through the same, but she is in her 40's now and has chosen her druggy husband over her child and now my sister is in the process of adopting her grandaughter that she has been caring for since she was very small. She is now 4 yrs old and on the days that they schedule supervised visits with the mom and dad they are always a no show. So sad dam drugs!!! I don't think that she will ever change as my sister has done everything she could do to try to help her.

Well tomorrow is my Gary's birthday so I need to get to the store and find a card and a little something for his present. He doesn't like me to make a fuss about his birthday, but he's a pretty great guy so I think he deserves a little something!! His parents are coming down to take him for supper tomorrow which is very nice of them!! Hope you all have a super day! :wave:
 
Just popping in to say good morning, ladies. I've got to get to work so no computer time right now.

Chris - I like Leverage too.
Trudy - yes....damn drugs. I agree. Hope you find a wonderful b-day card for Gary.
Nancy - I agree, lots of dog like to do one or the other and often not both. Taz like to wrestle and play tug-of-war but is not into fetching. He will chase dogs that do fetch, running alongside them but he isn't really interested in getting the ball/toy and then bringing it back.

Busy day ahead if my hospital job sends something thru to me but if not, then not so bad a day ahead. I'm only scheduling them for Mon-Thurs so that leaves me with only one client on Friday so that means possibly 4 days of lots of work and then 1 day of a lighter schedule and then my weekend. I'll try this for a few months and see how it works out. It means more work, less computer time and longer work day Mon-Thurs but then there's a nice break before starting it up again for the next week.

Good evening all- we will have warm weather tomorrow. I am looking forward to the longer days- love it when I get to drive home and it is lighter out.
