Who is up and ready to celebrate-- Boxing Day!?
*NOT* me!
*shakes head firmly*
I am celebrating PJ day. Probably not PJs all day but at least for now. I never made it back for personals yesterday as we had a small glitch with our furnace which put a crimp into things. Scott wanted to get the shower but had no hot water. I tried to take a shower and it was barely lukewarm. We have hot water baseboard heat and the coils that heat the water get mineral build-up on them. They have been harder to clean and in the last year, we know they are on borrowed time. But who has the money for a new furnace?
Gary had to turn the furnace off for a couple of hours while he ran the cleaner on the coils, so we had no heat or hot water so I couldn't wash dishes.
He finally got it working -- for how long, no clue... but at least we didn't have to call someone to try to fix it on Christmas Day.

Never dull. Nope.

Everything was very nice with the family and this was the best part-
As the grandparents were getting ready to head out, Scott had a little announcement. He said that last year, he expected that he would not be able to enjoy Christmas the same way again. He thanked everyone again for their support last year, how everyone came up here to be with him and that meant everything. Then he said how he realized *that* was what Christmas was about, not her. Not that she was here for 9 years. She was invited to our Christmas. She wasn't the critical part, our family is. It was heartwarming to see it all come full circle.

Who has lots to clean up today? I do.
xoxoxo!!

Catching up on the weekend posts--

@LSlycord the luminaries look so pretty. I can't show that picture to Gary, he will be *very* jealous of your garage. He wants a garage so much. :D
Did you end up making the cheesecake?

@vickyday That's fantastic news that the winds didn't damage the cabin. 4* is so dang cold. It feels "warm" here today since we are already at 13* I bet Christmas with the grandkids was so much fun. I can tell I miss having little ones around because I kept asking my dogs if they were good girls and excited for Santa to come to our house. Hahahaha!!!

@BrightEyes I was happy to share my good people story, even if I was a mess.
Whew, thank goodness the printer issues were easily fixed

@Cherylndesigns Oh my! That's so crazy about all of the stores' pipes being frozen. That's awful.
It's good to have one house with some way to stay warm just in case you lose heat, I can see everyone piling into Adrienne's - dogs and cats and people and chaos LOL Hopefully you won't need to do that, but good to have it in case.

@Kythe ooooh that awful that the cold was so bad and so much snow. Be careful as the slush freezes over and stay warm!

@tanteva I hope you didn't make too much of a ruckus alone in the forums yesterday.
MIL got me a bunch of yarn, I am going to pick your brain about some projects/patterns

@taxed4ever Yay!! SO happy to see you here! We miss you tons! Hope that you and your Gary had a great holiday-- your DS is still coming out to visit this week (IIRC??) Have fun!

@bcgal00 Caitlyn was sending her love to you all yesterday. She still thinks of Bailey often
Big hugs from all of us to you

I have been totally MIA from the forums and Gallery the past few days. I need yo get some stuff cleaned up so I can relax the rest of the day

Good morning. Still cold here this morning. 36*. Today and tomorrow highs in the 50's and then back to 60's and 70's. We had a good Christmas even though it was just the four of us. Kids opened gifts Christmas Eve and it was very uneventful and then Syd helped me make dinner. We really switched it up...only a few of the old favs (ham balls, corn pudding, strawberry jello salad). Everything else was new or newer.

Texted with family back home in Iowa. Got a picture of both great nephews and great niece together. It is the cutest thing. It may make it into a scrapbook page. And through DNA results in Ancestry.com, I found someone that is my mom's first cousin. My great uncle is his biological father. He didn't have any pictures so I've pulled some out and have sent him copies through email. Which of course has sent me down a rabbit hole...way, way down!

Took a nap and then Syd and I watch a movie...Knives Out on Netflix. It was totally bizarre. Not my favorite.

No plans for today...may start taking down the Christmas decorations. I dread the effort of taking all of the decorations off the tree and wrapping them in paper so that they don't get broken. But I think I'm ready to be done with Christmas and get on the way to 2023.

We have decided that we are going to spend Christmas 2023 on a cruise or at an all inclusive resort. Still trying to make that decision but it is something to look forward too.

Now, off to catch up on personals.

@faerywings I can't believe that your furnace went out yesterday of all days. It sure helps that Gary is such a handyman! Big kudos to him for being able to get it back up and running! And how sweet of Scott to share that with his family. Family really is everything! And yes, I got the cheesecake made and it turned out yummy! Very festive and seasonal.

@vickyday I'm so glad that there was no damage to the cabin. That would have been so disheartening!

@BrightEyes I love that you watched musicals and sang along. I love musicals. Which ones did you watch?

@taxed4ever it is so good to see you popping in. We miss you terribly and will love to have you back here!

@Cherylndesigns I'm sure that it didn't seem quite like Christmas this year! But I love the story about your trip to Hobby Lobby. You are an adventuresome group! And glad that you had Christmas Eve dinner together as well as a big Christmas dinner with others.

@Kythe a 141 year old weather record broken! That's quite a record. Very glad that you didn't need to figure out how to travel during that!

@bcgal00 so glad that Jen and you will soon have this first holiday season behind you. I can only imagine how very, very difficult it is!

Ok...I'm off to accomplish something. Who knows what! Have a good day all!

@tanteva I bet that you do have the gallery to yourself here on Christmas Day. That makes me laugh!

Morning, all. Seems we all survived Christmas with all its challenges.

@faerywings So sorry about the furnace problems and no hot water!! Glad Gary was able to get it going again. So good that Scott has come so far since last year's fiasco... and he was able to thank everyone for their support. Yes, I was very relieved that the printer problem was such an easy fix.

@LSlycord I really have to LOL over your 'Still cold here this morning. 36*' comment. I was just looking at our temp of 36* and thinking how warm that is for this time of day!!! It is all in what is normal for where you live. We made it up into the 50's yesterday and should be like that for a couple more days. Sounds like you dinner was a hit even with the 'new' mixed with the 'old'. I watched these musicals: 'Jersey Boys', 'Sound of Music', 'Beyond the Sea (Bobby Darin's story)', and 'De-Lovely'. May watch 'Carousel', 'Mama Mia', Brigadoon', 'Cats' and 'Phantom of the Opera' as long as I am on a musical kick! :D

@bcgal00 My heart was aching for you and the family - knowing how hard the 1st Christmas is without Bailey. I saw your photo on FB... what a wonderful pic of you and DH!

@taxed4ever Hoping that you will be able to get back in to chat with us soon. You have been missed so much.

@Kythe WOW... that is cold there. Glad you are planning on staying in and staying warm.

@Cherylndesigns Oh, you gals are always having fun on your adventures! Glad there is at least one house you can all go to in order to stay warm if the power and heat goes off.

@vickyday so glad the cabin was okay and that your DH was sensible and came in from the cold.

@tanteva were you lonely here yesterday as most of the gals were absent??? Bet you found some knitting/crochet project to work on. Love your gnomes and glad you got them done before Christmas day.

Decided I had better do the personals first while my hand is doing okay. Had to get a few LOs posted this morning - now that the kits are released. Thank goodness for my notebook to track them. Time for another cup of coffee. HAGD

I did get some scrapping done yesterday and today (YAY for completing all the challenges & games in the 12 days of December event!), but we ended up in the sofa and watched several episodes of Manifest and ate candy. And yes, I got some knitting done.

Took my last penicillin this morning. Sad thing: I still have pain in my ear. Guess I will have to call them again tomorrow morning and see if I can get a dr appointment. Have a dentist appointment on Wednesday, and then working on Friday. No rest for the wicked!

Plans for tonight - continue with Manifest. We're almost done with the 3rd season now. It's so nice to find a show that Urban likes just as much as I do.

Actually, not too much excitement with the grands this weekend. We took the money envelopes to them on Saturday. They were already busy with their own Christmas so the money did not excite them, LOL! That will come when mommy takes them shopping! At least it is her and not us, LOL! She's the one that will have to keep saying, "Remember, you only have $25 and that, ____________, whatever (fill in the blank), costs more than that!" They were all getting ready to go somewhere else anyway. We had a small window of time to spend with them. (These are Mark's grands we are talking about, so not only does he not see his kids very often, we don't see the grands very often either. Makes me sad!) My kids are not gathering until the middle of January. We always have a good time! Depending on the weather we spend the time at the pits where the cabin is being constructed or at my daughter's house about 20 minutes away from me. They have woods, too, that the kids like to play in. When they come in, one group will spend the nights at our house, one group will stay at Ilene's, the grands usually stay at my daughter's house and the oldest son and his family stay in a hotel. Ilene usually spends at least one day with us. When I lived with her for a while after my first husband died, she became part of the family!

Yes, he put a lot of money into the mill and the blades are not cheap, so to continue working would have only damaged the blades and not cut the wood properly!

Good morning and happy boxing day! Jen wants to go to the mall so I offered to go along. I wasn't planning on going but we'll have fun together. I'm happy to participate in anything that makes her happy right now. We got thru yesterday with some tears and laughter. We had a fantastic turkey dinner (patting myself on the back), the mashed potatoes were perfect, the dressing was great and the turkey was cooked to perfection. D and I watched the last two episodes of American Gigolo while Jen was at work. We ate a late dinner at 7 and then watched a horror movie (Prey for the Devil). We all went to bed at 10:30 exhausted.

I'll be back later, gotta get dressed and head to the mall. HAGD

Good Morning All,
I do my posts here backwards from everyone else, lol! I do the personals individually, responding directly to your posts. I have to do it that way because my mind is so haphazard and I easily forget who said what when! #crazy

Anyway, I ended up waking with one of my fun headaches yesterday morning, so I didn't go to church with Mark but watched the service on line. It's not the same, but a good option. I love going to see the rest of the congregation, too, not just the pastor in front of the camera, LOL! The headache finally subsided somewhat in the afternoon! Fortunately, I had put on a crockpot of stew meat, potatoes and carrots on Saturday night, so the only thing I had to do to finish lunch for Mark was to thicken the broth and fix some biscuits. I had cooked the spiral ham on Saturday, so i think I've got enough leftovers for Mark to eat whenever he takes a notion to this week. I did get his sausage balls fixed last night, too. His sausage biscuits are almost gone, but I have the country ham to fix for the next batch of biscuits. He heats them up a bit and that is his breakfast. He will work outside until early afternoon before he comes in to take a break and grab a bite to eat. Then heads back out to work on the sawmill and/or cabin.

I am almost done with the baby blanket. I'm tired of working on it, so I found a baby sock pattern to change it up a bit. They are for a newborn, so are very tiny and are worked in the round. So I'm juggling 5 double-pointed, size 1/2.25mm knitting needles and using fingering yarn! Just a slight difference from the size 10 needles and chenille yarn for the blanket! ;) I got about an inch done last night before I went to bed at 3:30 a.m. Here's a picture I took at about 3/4". The yarn is light pink with a silver strand running through it. The light from the phone camera kinda washed it out;
IMG_20221226_030057444_HDR-web.jpg

That square is about an inch big! I did order some circular needles from Amazon this morning to see if that will be any easier! They are supposed to arrive on Wednesday. I may be done with the first sock by then. We shall see!

That's about all that is up with me today. The headache is a normal headache, so I just have to deal with it, LOL! Ilene called and told me to come over, but I told her not today but that I would send Carolyn a text and see if she is available for a play date tomorrow.

Have a great day-after-Christmas! #kiss

@vickyday I've never quite learned to knit socks with circular needles (magic loop). I know most people think it's easier than using dpns, but I say no. But I learned using dpns decades before I really started using circular needles.

Sure is feeling funny to go from needles 10 to 2,5. LOL

Yes, I'm not sure I will like using the circulars, but wanted to give it a try! They are only 9" so I am not sure but that they will still be too long for these tiny socks! It is a K2, P2 pattern, but there isn't too much stretch on just 36 stitches! I'll give it a try. I can always go back to the DPNs.

Yes, it is a bit "fiddly" after working with the large needles, LOL!

Good afternoon all and Merry Day After Christmas.

I'm beyond exhausted today - don't know why, but Casey called and asked if she could clean our house today and I had to tell her no, so she said she could come Thursday.

We had a wonderful Christmas dinner last evening - everything was just perfect, and very mellow. Lots of good food - A couple of the others brought a dish each so we had a lot of food. We had so many leftovers that we're eating there again this evening. I've got my mind set already on a big bowl of those mashed potatoes! That may be all I eat - that and some pie, which I was too full to eat last night. Nancy (Nancy's Pie Shop) made 2 cakes and 2 pies for us, but I was way too full. She makes this buttermilk pie that I LOVE and I'm looking forward to a big piece of that.

One of Adrienne and Roger's friends made them a charcutier board that is absolutely gorgeous! It's really big and we ate so much off that that it dulled our appetites. I took everything off of it and bagged things separately so we'll get that all out again tonight. Adrienne had the best dips that I've ever had - she even had a peppermint dip (doesn't sounds that good, but it was.) I'm not even a peppermint fan, but it was very mild. It was a Pinterest delight! Haha

Chris @faerywings what a bummer about the furnace and the hot water. Doesn't sound like it put a damper on your celebration though. How wonderful for Scott to say what he said - he really must have been feeling what the true Spirit of Christmas was really all about. Honestly, I think we had a better time w/o all the chaos of gift opening. It was a really meaningful evening - just being with family and friends.

You're right about the chaos of everybody staying at Adrienne and Roger's in front of their fireplace. It would be all of us, 5 dogs and 3 cats and if the lady in one of the rental properties came, she has 2 cats. She's part of the family, so she'd for sure be there.

Linda @LSlycord sounds like you're having a quiet day - I'm still in my pj's too. I have to get dressed about 5 and go up to Adrienne's for dinner, but I'm taking it easy until then. Yes, we are adventuresome. We don't let a little cold weather get us down. We don't normally take our decorations down until after New Year's Day. Of course, we got ours up kind of late this year, so I may be a little later taking the tree down. Sometimes, I take down the other decorations and leave the tree up. It just depends on my mood.

Kay @BrightEyes I'm sure you're ready to get on to the new year. Love your new avi and siggy. That's a wonderful picture and I just know that you and your DH had so many wonderful experiences together. I love seeing your posts on FB. Yes, we are adventurers. It was bitter cold the day we set off for Hobby Lobby but we didn't expect all of the restrooms to be closed due to broken water pipes. I've got to go out tomorrow - I have things to return to Amazon and I'm ordering a couple of things from Walmart that are pickup in the store. I need them for a NYE party.

Eva @tanteva hurray for getting some scrapping done and getting all of the challenges done. Sorry you're still having ear pain.

Vicky @vickyday I had to laugh about the lack of enthusiasm about the money. That's what we did for the oldest grands and they love it - they're 17 and 18 though. We still bought gifts for Asher - he's only 11. Ava's 22 this year and insisted on being included in "no gifts for adults". Her two older brothers are adults, too.

Kythe @Kythe hope your weather is warming up a bit. It's in the 40's here today and supposed to be in the 50's tomorrow, then up into the 60's.

Rae @bcgal00 I'm sure yesterday was a mixed bag of emotions, but it sounds like you did the best you could to make it a nice day. Your menu sounds like it was delicious and I'm glad you could go shopping with Jen today. Sending you all hugs.

XOXO

Had to do a bit of shifting the ExHD to the old computer so I could load the latest photos from the SD Card to the HD. Then shift it back to DH's computer again. I just wanted to share the photo of my Christmas Day dinner.

On the same SD card was the photos of the latest guacamole being made. Yes... there was a lot of it!!! LOL

And here are the servings ready to go into the freezer.

The photos made me hungry for guac - so I just pulled some out along with some enchiladas sauce. Will be having that for supper tomorrow night.

Alas... supper tonight will be a turkey sandwich and the rest of the fruit salad.

Kay, the new siggy is beautiful! You must've done that today because the Christmas one was still up this morning when I was in here. The guac looks delicious. I can eat a bit, but it leaves such a bad taste in my mouth that I usually don't eat it, even though I love it, just not the aftertaste, LOL!

Oh, I didn't know you could freeze guacamole. Doesn't it turn brown?
Only the very top layer will turn brown but you can stir it and the brown disappears. The other thing you can do is press a small piece of plastic wrap down so it covers the guac completely so air doesn't get to it. I have done both. And yes, you can freeze it. I realized that when I saw frozen pints of guacamole for sale at the grocery store. LOL
