Happy Earth Day!
This is my kind of holiday, I just wish that the Earth was in better spirits.
I can't remember how the conversation started yesterday at breakfast but my dad asked the kids how they felt about Climate Change and overpopulation. It started a pretty long discussion of everything from water shortages causing conflicts, drought, carbon, acidification of the oceans, volcanos under Antarctica, biofuels and so on. (I raised *really* smart kids). Scott told us about a saying that comes from Indigenous peoples in the Amazon- paraphrasing- that when the last Mahogany tree dies, the earth ceases to exist.
He said that some compare it to Nostradamus but that it is actually rooted in science. It recognizes that once the Amazonian ecosystem is destroyed, life cannot exist in other areas of the world. He went into a lot more detail explaining how the ecosystems work and all of that is pretty frightening when you think about how fragile the atmosphere is because of human activity.
Anyway, that is my soapbox philosopher moment for today.
How was everyone's weekend and Easter? It was quiet here after everyone left. My parents had to go to my brother's, Scott went out with Brendan and Scott was down with Leah. Gary and I binged the last 4 episodes of Season One of Outlander. That was pretty intense. I have to admit I was surprised that they included so much graphic stuff with Jack Randall. Gary had to go get some ice cream in the middle of it. Can't say that I blame him. It was so brutal.
The good news is that the drain pump was delivered and Gary was able to fix the dishwasher. He is my hero!
Gary and I are going food shopping together today, my first time there in a month. Cool cool.
That is my day. Pretty boring but I think it will feel good to get out and about.
Hugs to everyone!
