It looks to be a very pretty day outside. I can't wait to put on some work clothes, load up on DEET and go play in the mud.

When I posted here yesterday, I opened up the thread with the sentence "What a week." I should have known that 1. The week was not over and 2. It was only gonna get stranger.

Caitlyn gets a text alert from Royal Caribbean at 3 pm saying that the cruise had to be rescheduled to leave on Sunday. At 11 pm. There was a medical emergency and the ship had to be diverted and won't be getting back to port until late on Sunday. Instead of sailing this afternoon, they will be leaving just before midnight tomorrow. She is so sad. They were supposed to be in Bermuda overnight and were going on some midnight glass-bottomed boat tour there that they had to cancel. And they were going to a pirate ship bar with a plank that you can jump off of into the ocean. I tried to cheer her up by making her some frozen pina colada but drinking them in my LR is totally not the same as in Bermuda. :mmph:

My mom and I had a nice visit, I was able to get something small for Scott for his birthday on Tuesday- a plastic case for a fishing license and I will give him the $ to cover that and a floatable key chain for when he goes out on his rowboat. I would have panic attacks when he would go fishing that he would drop his car key in the lake, especially since last year he didn't even have a spare. It is bright yellow so even his color-blind eyes would see it in the water LOL
I also bought some stain to refinished the top of my DR table. It has gotten scratched up and needs to be sanded and restained. The chairs too. That was also an "adventure." I had an open can from when I refinished it a few years ago so I was able to open it but couldn't get the lid back on. Gary was helping me pour the stain into a glass jar when it slipped out of his hands and spilled all over the kitchen counter and floor. Talk about a mess! Stain/poly is not easy to clean up.

The biggest mess I will need to work on today is making sure I don't step in hidden dog poop. But I can check my shoes at the door so even if I do, it isn't the end of the world. Whew!

I hope that you have sunshine and warm weather today. Enjoy your weekend!!!! You deserve it!

Kay- IMHO, I think sorting laundry and spending the rest of the day scrapping sounds like a win-win to me
Good luck with the yard work today, I hope that the guy does as good as a job as it sounds like he will do. keep taking pictures of the progress!

Trudy- It is a long weekend for you in CA? Those days -- when you get stuff done but have no idea afterward what you did... I get that! Hope that they weekenders stay out of your way on the roads.

Felis- Hi hon! Oh, believe me, the abortion bans are *horrific* and spreading like wildfire through our states. One thing about our country is that the states are making these laws individually so unless you live in one of those states there isn't much we can do at this point. I will be asking for donations to be made to the ACLU, an org that helps fight these laws in court for my birthday again. I asked for that last year since they are also for fighting the immigration/asylum seekers being detained.
I hate what is happening to this country. New laws are really being harmful to minorities and women and it makes me sad that other countries see it and wondering what the heck is happening here.

Morning, gals. Turns out I didn't have to have the alarm set this morning.... I woke up at 4:30AM and couldn't go back to sleep. So up and dressed with coffee made by 5:15. The bright moon was still shining then!! Now the sun is shining and the winds are still fairly calm. George - the yard guy - called yesterday afternoon to let me know that they would be here early... get the tree removed and hole dug for the new tree; then he would go pick up the new Raywood Ash tree after 9AM when the nursery opened. I got a notice yesterday from the HOA about the weeds. Good thing that they will be taken care of today. I did get the shrubs tagged with cloth strips so they will know which ones to replant.

Granddaughter stopped over for coffee yesterday morning. Glad to hear about their trip to TX and the wedding of her cousin. Had a wonderful visit which raised my spirits even more.

Yes, I finally got my errands run yesterday. What a PITA... the road to the senior center was closed due to road construction with only west bound lanes opened... and of course, I am needing to go east bound. So a long mile detour to get to the center. UGH!! I won't be going over there again until the road is opened to east bound traffic again. And of course, the grocery store is on that same road. So, I opted to go to the other grocery store a mile from the house instead. I picked up a seedless watermelon for 20 cents a lb... the first of this season for me. And I managed to finish the laundry after I got back home.

Chris... I understand how you thought the week was over before it really was. I have had weeks like that, too. So sorry that the cruise was delayed for Cait. At least it was only a short delay. Hey, smart move to get Scott the floating case for his car keys. Hope he has a great fishing trip.

What a PITA about the spilled Poly... it must have been a real bear to get it cleaned up. My hubby refinished the bedroom end tables a couple of times, so know how much work it is to get your table done. Bet it will look great once it is refinished.

Gotta run... the yard guys are here.

Morning O-zies!! I had a very good day yesterday and got lots accomplished on the saw that I am painting for BIL. It will be good to be finished with it soon! Not that I don't like painting it, but my other paints are calling me and I am going through withdrawal LOL. Today will be a busy day of running errands and grocery shopping. (what else is new), then this afternoon we are heading up to my Brother and SIL's for dinner, yay I don't have to cook tonight! I did not cook last night either as we decided to go to our favourite little fish place and have shrimp and halibut :hungry: Love "The Rock Cod Cafe!" However the prices have gone up since we were there last :mmph: Oh and I got a layout done yesterday afternoon of my last hike. I will post it right after I finish chatting with you all.

Chris - Oh man that sucks that Cait has to miss out on the Bermuda excursion !! I feel so bad for her! You are a good momma for trying to cheer her up with the Pina Colada, but ya not the same as drinking it in Bermuda!! Hope she gets to enjoy lots more fun on the Cruise! I am also happy for you to be able to get outside today and play in the mud! Watch out for the poop!! :becky: Yes it is a long weekend for us here in Canada, we call it May Long weekend, but it's actually Victoria Day and honours Queen Victoria's birthday. From what I have read about it, it is only celebrated in Canada and Scotland. Who knew??:noidea: Oh and I need to get my table top re-stained too, not looking forward to sanding it though.

Kay - You had a very busy day yesterday! Now the gardener should be there and just in time. Sorry you got a notice about the weeds, but at least you were on the ball and are dealing with it! Hope that the construction will be done the next time you need to get to the Senior Centre!! Nice to have your spirits lifted by your visit with your GD!! I hope that you have a great day! Take pictures please!!

Felis - Believe me I feel so angry about what is going on with these abortion laws!! NO ONE HAS THE RIGHT TO TELL ANY WOMAN WHAT TO DO WITH THEIR OWN BODY!!! NO ONE!! That's all I will say about it, :tape:

Hi Nancy  I hope that you are having a nice weekend and that the sun is shining for you today!

I will get another coffee and then hit the shower after I post my page in the gallery. Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Quick pop-in to say that the yard work is done.... and it looks so nice! ! ! No more weeds and they sprayed to keep them from coming back for quite awhile. The new tree is in the front yard and 2 (??) transplanted to the backyard! One of the guys said they looked like Elm trees! I am going to take a cutting to the nursery and ask them about it. I found the tag in one of the pots and they were suppose to be Verbena. We had bought 5 of them a couple of years ago and now they are outgrowing the pots we put them in. He also told me that the 'shrub' beside the driveway is actually an oak tree that seems to be stunted as it has only grown about 2' in the 9 years it has been there. Think that will be the next project to remove and replace with a shrub... maybe next fall or in the spring next year. Don't want it to damage the driveway. Yes, I did take lots of photos of the before, during and after. Will work on getting them scrapped later on.

DD#3 wanted the yard guy's name if he did good... so I called to give it to her once they had finished and I was happy with their work. They will be coming down today to see what they think. She also wants to see a house that is about a mile from here that might be what they want to buy. I would love having them close by as opposed to 27 miles away!!

Now I need to get some lunch.

It's kind of disappointing weekend! My mom is on travel to Turkey for the weekend. It's one of these 50 plus club vacation, which allows to ladies and gentlemen on middle age , discount if they join to complement the seats in an already planned tour of some agency.
My dad had to work through the weekend. And because the sun finally is bright today (yesterday I needed jacket), I was hoping that I'll have house for my own. I planned to make a improvised beach at my yard, to lie with the dogs and to listen music so loud, that my neighbors to can hear it too ;). Perfect lazy day! Of course at the last minute, they canceled my dad's appointment and move it for monday, so he stayed at home. And he found a thousand errands that I have to do today.
I'm so tired! Wondering how long I can sleep?! Bet I could do it whole week, with only wake ups for using toilet and shower. This Maymax project don't went well!
With all happening in the world, my mind is so overwhelmed and blur. So many thoughts, so less hope.

Chris, how bad about the changes at Caitlyn's plan, but vacation is vacation and I hope this will be compensated at some way later! Great idea for the Scott's gift!
Haha, I have the similar problems with cats peeing at the flowers. I really don't remember and excuse me if I repeat myself, but funny is that in my culture is considered disrespectful to get inside with shoes, we offer to our guests slippers, but the family go around only with socks. So I have to worry about hidden 'surprises' mostly when I mow.

Kay, I would love to see your before and after yard photos! Verbena is very pretty in bloom! I tried to plant it few times, but unsuccessful. It's become popular after "The Vampire Diaries", but it's not so easy to keep it as they said. Oh, fingers crossed the house near to you to be exactly what your childs needs! Will be lovely to live closer! And about a mile away, they can come daily if gets big dog and have to do dog walks anyway.

Trudy, have fun with your family celebrating the Queen's birthday! I'm so curious to see how will finish the painting with the salmon! You live on such a heavenly place! I love all your photos! And even I found your earlier invitation: someday all O girls, to be able to come on some hike with you; for kind and very sweet, let's be honest I never could walk so long as you! I often say to my sister that if she forced me to walk more than 2 miles is better to left me there for breakfast for wolves :) . Oh, this reminds me I have to run her Etsy shop till she is on vacation, but this month the sales are dispirit weak! Looks like site have some maintenance changes or system problem, because of change in payment system they made, I don't know, but the situation is very bad!

My stomach is in knots. Not for Caitlyn and her cruise but for my brother, SIL and especially my nephew. Long and disgusting story short is that the principal of the middle school in the town they live in was arrested Thursday for attempted sexual assault of a former student. That is horrible for the student and all that it encompasses and I recognize that as the first priority. The bad part of it for my family is that the principal has the same and very unusual last name as us. I have joked that I have never met an Iantosca that I wasn't related to. The principal is a relative although very, very distantly. Blowback onto my brother is already happening with one of Kathy's friends telling her that her husband had read the news article and asked if it were my brother. The local paper dug up a story that the principal's brother is in jail for abusing his nephew which means this is only going to get more attention.
My stomach is in knots and my heart is breaking and I am full of worry for my nephew. They live in a small town and 8 years olds aren't going to differentiate one Mr. Iantosca from another. They had better not say anything bad to my nephew!
My SIL is contacting the teacher and school counselor. I cannot imagine what they are going through. (Again, I recognize that these are second-tier issues, but still)

I hope my parents are holding up ok. My brother said my mom was worried and embarrassed to have to use our name. Like I said-- it is unusual and it stands out because very few people can pronounce it.

On a happier note, the sun is out again and Cait is all ready to leave for her trip. Small world story on that is my BFF texted me yesterday to ask about the kids and see when Cait's cruise was. I told her what happened, and get this- her DD's BFF/college roommate is going on the same cruise. We are laughing that they should try to find each other with Cait's description being "Find the short girl dressed all in black that hisses at the sun." :pound:
Because of all of the chaos, the cruise line wants everyone to be in the port at 2 pm even though they don't embark until 11 pm. They are going to see if they can ferry over to the Statue of Liberty for a little while as they wait until they can actually board the ship. It is a pretty day for that.

I am going to try to spend another hour or so outside. I cleared off a ton of leaves from some logs and wood slats that I have in one section that separates the woods from the grassy strip of my lawn. An hour later, we watched a pileated woodpecker go crazy on one of the logs. S/he was flinging the wood everywhwere, digging out some good food.

Have a fantastic day!! Hope it is a calmer one than I am experiencing hahaha!!

Kay- sorry that you woke up so early but I imagine that the moon was very bright and pretty to see. The yard guy is on the ball. Wow. Sad to say that the stories I usually hear are people not showing up or making you wait all day. He is good!
How sweet that your GDD stopped in too. I miss my grandma, she was the kind of person I loved to visit.

The detour sounds like a PITA.
Cait is awake, back soon!

I am back, my goodness I am going to miss that girl. we spent much too long coming up words that "work" like walkie-talkies. There is a website that lists words if they were made up by the person who named walkie-talkies. We came up with funny-runnies (Whisky's back legs go in front of her front legs when she runs really fast), meowy-owies (Floyd's nails when he jumps onto your lap), creepy-sleepy (a coffin), just to name a few.

Anyway- back to personals.

Kay- I am happy to hear that you are feeling more like yourself again! Mmm, watermelon! I hope it tastes great!
Trudy was my inspiration to redo our DR table. It was a second-hand one we had gotten in 2004 and it had seen much better days. Trudy redid her table with stain on top and chalk paint base. I loved that idea so much that I copied her. It really made the old scratched thing look nice again. The chalk paint on the base covered up the teeth marks from when one or maybe two puppies chewed on it too. Gary found a small table (1' x 1" top) on the side of the road that I am going to refinish to match.

Trudy- haha!! That is so funny how fast you got addicted to the new painting technique! Were you able to finish painting the saw? Probably not since you had to do errands with your Gary *wink*
How was dinner with your brother? How nice to not have to cook for two nights. Enjoy the long weekend! Memorial Day weekend is next weekend so a long one for the USA.
It is time for you to refinish too? Yes, the sanding is going to be the pits. There is one long scratch that is going to be a pain to remove and then to make the rest of the finish even. pfft.
ITA with you on women's rights. Stay on your toes in Canada, make sure that these rights don't start to disappear for you as well. :(

Kay- wow!! I am thrilled for you, the yard guy did good!! I am excited to see the photos and LOs of the yard.
Oh, I hope that DD#3 likes the house by you!!! That would be amazing!!!!! *fingers and toes crossed!*

Felis- crud! Sorry that your weekend plans got messed up and that you couldn't do what you wanted to do. It sounded like the perfect way for you to spend a day outside. Maybe you will have some time to do that today?
I have been feeling the same, so overwhelmed by life. That is why I love to be out in the yard/garden. It is so much simpler just clearing our leaves and weeds and seeing flowers bloom, talk to the worms and bugs. :D
I hope that your sister's Etsy shop business picks up soon.

Morning ladies... It is going to be another lovely sunny day here, but the forecast is for :rain: tomorrow. So DH and I are going to bottle a white zinfandel this morning and head out later on for a hike. We haven't yet decided which one to do but will discuss it over a cup of coffee on the front porch. We had a very nice time with brother and SIL last night, they are always a lot of fun and we had a great french cut pork roast that was so yummy! Fresh strawberries and whipped cream for dessert :hungry: They showed us all the renos they recently had done, new flooring and a pony wall in the living room that was removed. Fresh paint everywhere, in lighter colour, it looks amazing!!

Chris - Oh dear how terrible to have the family name shamed like that!! Of course you must feel very badly for your poor nephew and I truly hope that the principal of the school explains it to all the students that this has nothing to do with his family!! Kids can be so cruel!! for you and your entire family! I am so glad that you were able to get outside and talk to the worms and bugs yesterday! How cute to see the woodpecker having a lovely time with the log you uncovered!! Please try not to stress too much over this bad situation, surely anyone who knows your family will be supportive to you and the rest of the family and know that this has nothing to do with any of you! I hope that Cait has a wonderful time on cruise!! Wish you could have gone with her!!

Kay - Looking forward to seeing all the pics of your landscape re-do! Wouldn't that be wonderful to have your DD move so close to you!

Felis - I am so sorry that things did not work out for your plans of being alone and soaking up the sun with your fur babies!! Perhaps you will have some alone time some time this weekend. I hope so! I will have to check out these changes for the Etsy Shop today, thanks for the heads up!!

Ok I better get up from this computer and help DH out with the bottle washing and sterilizing. Have a wonderful Sunday ladies!
