Wake up, sleepyheads, it is a beautiful Saturday in NJ!!!!
JK, you all can go back to sleep. It isn't like we have to be up early for anything in particular, right? haha!!
Actually, Scott has to be up soon, he has to go on a Field Trip today. He found out on Thursday that he hasn't officially graduated. His professor told the class that since they weren't going to be able to do the fieldwork portion of the class, they should mark it as an Incomplete and that she would figure out how to address it when grades were finalized. Turns out that it couldn't be done that way, so now Scott's class has to go do one more assignment, turn it in by the 15th so they can get credit and graduate. He isn't worried about the paper, it is just more of a pain in the butt.

Yesterday -- what did I do yesterday?
Really, what did I do? I was outside for a few hours. That darn beetles that eat my lilies are back and I had to scrape the larvae off of the leaves. It is weird, they already destroyed the plants that are closer to the road, so I had to cut them down. But the ones closer to the house were still ok and hopefully just removing the larvae will be enough. I will put some diatomaceous earth down too.
While I was outside, I saw a fighter jet fly overhead. It was much louder than a regular plane and while I have no idea what kind of plane is what, I could see the triangular wings easily. I am not terribly far from West Point where the Cadets are graduating today so perhaps it was on its way there?

I made quesadillas and homemade guacamole for dinner. I managed to get the 10 minutes of perfect ripeness of the avocadoes. Another 10 minutes later and they would have been brown mush :pound: After dinner, we played Mario Kart. Scott used some of his graduation and birthday money to get a Nintendo Switch so he and Leah could play video games together while in quarantine. There is a Auto-Steering option so I don't have to worry about constantly running for the road. I didn't come in last place every time! That made it a lot less frustrating for me.

Nothing happening here today. I was thinking about going to the FP but I am good right now. I am concerned about second waves and not being to get groceries when that happens, but I think for now I am set. The panic of not being able to get food is much lower, thank goodness.

Gratitudes:
-the FP is there when I need it and the people that donate are appreciated
-gorgeous weather
-fun times with the family

BTW- cuz I am a dork, I made the same mistake here that I make at home. I said that the kids ordered trilobites to hatch. It wasn't trilobites since they are extinct and my kids tell me every darn time that it would be awsome to hatch trilobites but impossible. They ordered triops.
Triops - Wikipedia
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triops
Triops is a genus of small crustaceans in the order Notostraca (tadpole shrimp). Some species are considered living fossils, with a fossil record that reaches back to the late Carboniferous, 300 million years ago. The long lasting resting eggs of one species, Triops longicaudatus, are commonly sold in kits as a pet.

Class: Branchiopoda
Genus: Triops, Schrank, 1803
Family: Triopsidae
Kingdom: Animalia

jean- how was your outing yesterday? The weather here was perfect so I hope it was by you too. Oh, yuck about the car AC! You aren't getting a break. My fingers are crossed that the part comes in quickly and that the heat stays down while you wait.
Enjoy your genealogy chats today. That is really exciting to find that link to all of the other info you have on that family member. So cool!!!

Nancy- you must be so excited to know that hockey might be coming back!! And in a month! My fingers and toes are crossed that everything goes as planned.
How neat that you and Jean are watching the same show and are seeing it from your own different perspectives. It has to make you crazy to see shows like CSI and NCIS pop out DNA results in minutes.
LOVE your gratitudes!

Kay- I am so excited for you to get books. I started one that I downloaded from my library app and it isn't the same. The glare is hard on my eyes too. But I am really happy for you!
Thankfully- no hangover! I drank that cocktail over the course of 2.5 hours so I was good :p
What did you do about dinner last night? I hate trying to figure that out (as you all know!) I wonder what is up with bananas. I buy 5-7 a week for Gary so I hope whatever it is, it doesn't last long.

xoxoxo!!

Good Morning ladies and Happy Saturday!! I was MIA from here yesterday and most of you know that my DH took the day off so we could get the kitchen done and it is now officially finished!!! :bliss: I will get some photos of the final stage and hopefully do up a page showing the before and afters. We took apart the range hood, so that we could easily get into the underside to paint. Although I have cleaned my range hood many, many times once it was all apart you should have seen the grease and yuck!! I took it all into the garage and gave everything a good scrubbing and now it is sparkling clean and looks like new again! Hopefully everything will still work and the fans will continue to do their job LOL. At some point we will try to get new backsplash, but that will be a messy job as taking down the old stuff will probably also take drywall with it. I might have to start saving some $$ so we can get that done by a contractor. So today will be spent outside in the garden and picking up the grocery order. It never fails I always think of something else that I should have gotten after I have done the checkout :mmph: Oh well it wasn't anything really important like coffee LOL just frozen french fries that DH likes to have if do burgers. Oh and I had my first visit with the Dentist yesterday afternoon. All went well and of course they are not allowed to clean your teeth with the ultra sonic cleaner so it was all done the old fashioned way. Oh and they were not allowed to polish the teeth afterwards, so that was kind of sad. Our new hygienist is a sweetie and she was so much more gentle than the one we used to have. No cavities, no work to be done on my teeth I am good for another year Hooray!!!

Chris - Had to laugh that you wanted details on my hair cut LOL. Well it was a different experience for sure, had to wear a mask and so did the hairdresser of course. It was so nice to see her again, even if I could not see her smile. Everyone that was there were all so happy to be getting their hair done and to be back at work! It was a joyful experience!! They only allowed so many in the salon at a time and their work stations were moved quite far apart from each other as well as the sinks where they wash your hair. It is so nice to have the grey gone and yes my hair feels light and springy again!! I am good for another 6 weeks at least. Hiking was fun too, so great to catch up with everyone again. Next week will be one that is further away and it will be interesting to see if we all can do this and still stay socially distant! Hope that Scott manages to get his paper turned in on time and it will be nice at least for him to be out on the field trip! Your family fun night sounded like a great time and glad that you did not lose every game this time! Mario Cart is so much fun and its great that you can all do that together! Those Trips sound like the same thing that I sent out to Mason and Hunter a little while ago, they were called Aqua Dragons and they should be hatching today. Hope that you have a nice weekend and yes the panicky feeling about getting groceries seems to lessening for all of us I think!

Jean - Sounds like you will be having a very busy weekend attending all these genealogy meetings and how nice that you and your DH got out for an outing and some bird watching! Hope that the weather continues to be milder for you especially if you don't have the air conditioning in the car! I will keep my fingers crossed that you get the part quickly! Enjoy your tracking down of more info on the family member! I know it would certainly make my head swim!! LOL

Nancy - You and my DH seem to be very excited about the return of the NHL!! My Gary is almost giddy about it LOL. It just seems like it won't be the same without the cheering fans etc. It will be good to see the game again though! Did you decide to support one of the local restaurants last night? We did and got Mr. Mike's, bacon, mushroom burgers, so yummy!! :hungry: Then we sat down to watch a movie and promptly feel asleep in front of the TV LOL. Guess we were tuckered out from all the cleaning and painting!

Kay - Glad to hear that you were able to pick up the book that was on hold for you! Funny that you picked up the free ones, but that you already had them. You must have so many in your collection that it is hard to remember just which ones you have! Hope you found something yummy in your freezer to eat for supper last night. At least something better than cereal for supper!! Strange that bananas have gone up so much in price. Perhaps it is getting more difficult to get them shipped to the stores these days?

Ok I am ready for another cup of coffee and a bite to eat for breakfast. DH is still asleep which is nice as he is up so early during the week, good for him to catch up on his ZZZ's Have a wonderful Saturday everyone!

Gratitudes -
My Kitchen is finished!!
My Kitchen is sparkly clean!
The forecast is for rain all day, but the sun is shining instead!

:wickedwitch Happy Halloween! Today is our Halloween Theme Night and Caitlyn has already outdone herself. She made these adorable brownie truffle bats yesterday and wait until you see the pictures of them. We have a bunch of other things that need preparing. I forgot that I was making eyeball deviled eggs but got them in the fridge cooling off now. Trudy- I cannot thank you enough for telling me about egg steamers. Best $14 I ever spent :)

Yesterday was quiet. It was cold in my house but Caitlyn and I took W and J for a walk. Ray is still not 100% steady on her feet. We went down a side street and J was not having any of it. She slipped out of her halter somehow and wanted to run back home. Thankfully, I grabbed her collar and got her leash snapped back on before she took off. Meanwhile, W is just trotting alongside us. She is such a good girl not a stubborn butt like my J. heh.
I helped her with the truffles and then spent some time outside. I moved some more plants from the front garden over to the side of the yard. I had a bunch of bee-friendly plants that have overtaken the front of the garden so I dug up a few of them, I hope that I got enough of the roots to make the move successfully. I have to figure out what to do with my lavender plant. It is enormous (and smells soooooooooooooooooo gooooooooooood!). I don't want to harm it if I cut it back so I need to look up the best way to do it.

Scott was able to get the fieldwork part of his project done- he was close to the shore, some river tributaries near Sandy Hook. I bet it smelled awesome to be close to the shore. I love that smell. Today we will be making the rest of the food for our Halloween Party and figure out what activities we will do. I started a scrap page and that can be finished up today too.

I already fought with the shop from home site for an hour and need a break from that. It is a nightmare! Gah!!!!

Wishing everyone a fab day!!!

Trudy- just me and you yesterday! I figured that you and your Gary were very busy in the kitchen on Friday. You must be so darn happy to have it done and I bet it looks just incredible You should be so proud yourself, it was a big undertaking.
I can imagine what the grease and dust looked like if it is anything like mine. And to have the grease all in the crevices where you can't clean-- yikes. Everything must be sparkling and fresh! Yay!
Haircut and a dental cleaning-- you are sparkling and fresh too! No dentist visits here yet. I was relieved- my dental insurance company emailed to say that we are getting a 30% discount on the premiums for the next three months since no one could use the insurance. Not a lot, but better than nothing.
Aqua Dragons are such a cute name for triops! I hope that they hatch and swim around so the boys can see them.

Love and hugs to everyone who pops in!

good day - have been busy. Friday turned out super nice as my son and his MG brought over dinner. She prepared sausage and peppers. I walked down town to get the rolls. They came by to pick up packages that were sent to our address and we got the pleasure of their company and dinner. I also felt good as I supported local bakery. Sat day and today's weather has been perfect. Low 70s with no humidity. Love it! Window open. Even had to use heavy blankets to sleep. So Luther went on long walks. On one my birding friend rode by but stopped when I called out. Had a nice talk. But I can say sadly that most were not wearing masks. The virus is still out there. I am still reading my game warden books.

Chris have fun at Halloween in June night. Sorry the dogs don't walk well together. Amazing how dogs try to get out of their harnesses. Glad Scott is still a bit in school mode and he finishes this last class. My DH is working with his dept to figure out how to do classes and labs so their is social distancing and cleaning to keep every one healthy. My son has a switch and he loves it as it is so portable. I hated Mario Kart as I too always last. Have some fun in the sun!

Trudy congrats on the kitchen remodel! It must be such a great feeling. I cant wait to see the before and after photos. Enjoy the kitchen! Enjoy the backyard clean up and then have fun on your porch! And yes it seems that Hockey is on the horizon! Cant wait.

Happy Sunday everyone! It is another grey cloudy day here. Hoping that the sun will come out and stick around for a bit, especially for our hike on Wednesday! Today will be my :washing: day and cleaning of the bathrooms, floors etc. I hope to start scrapping the photos from the kitchen re-do today too. Need to have a face time with our son and family, we haven't talked to them in ages! Well a week at least, so I guess that is really not ages is it LOL. It will soon be Isaac's birthday, he will be 12 years old!! OMG how did that happen??? Last time we talked with our son, Isaac's card had still not arrived so I sure hope it has by now! I am anxious to hear what the plans will be for Isaac's big day, things are still not so good in Ontario with COVID so he most likely won't be having a big birthday party :mmph: Sure hope his Mom and Dad have something fun planned for him!

Chris - Yes it was very quiet here yesterday, but I think that everyone is enjoying some other activities this weekend and hopefully they are having a lovely time! Ha, Ha it will be your families favourite night tonight!! Your Halloween night sounds like so much fun!! Can't wait to see the brownie truffle bats!!! Your eyeball devilled eggs sound pretty cool too! You are so welcome about the egg steamers! Wish that is all I had to pay for mine LOL mine were about twice that much :mmph: Glad you were able to get out for a walk, but, bad dog trying to escape and run back home LOL. Lucky Scott being able to be by the shore! I love that smell of the shore too! Yes I am so happy with the way the kitchen looks now even though I know it will be more work to try to keep it looking this way LOL. DH wants to darken the wood trim around the counter tops, so really this job is not officially done. My part of it is though :becky: Nice that the dental insurance is giving you a discount for your premiums!! Every little bit helps! DH and I moved a large bush in the front garden yesterday too, just to another spot that was looking a bit bare and now everything is much more even looking. I have a small Japanese Maple bush that is struggling to grow in the back so I need to move that somewhere will it will be happier. Hopefully we can do that today, then DH can dig the hole for me. We always hit big rocks in the ground and man it is jarring when you hit one with the shovel. I will be glad to have him do that instead of me LOL. Have fun making your Halloween goodies today and I look forward to seeing a layout about this fun night with your family

Ok I have been lazing around in my pj's for too long and its time to get into the shower and get busy with today's chores. Have a great Sunday everyone!

It's another beautiful sunny, slightly cool day, just perfect for me. It was like this but a tad warmer Friday when we went birding. We had a great time visiting a rural area that has not changed a great deal for the most part in the last 35 years. The biggest town in the area has a Dairy Queen where we used to get something and watch chimney swifts that nested in a nearby chimney. This time we got lunch, burgers and drinks, sat outside and saw a few swifts though too early for them to be feeding young probably. The workers at the DQ all wore masks and have plexiglass sheets up but we were the only indoor customers masked. The drive thru line was quite busy. I'm guessing out there they feel fairly safe. We got good news as the part for the car's AC is in and will be installed tomorrow morning. It's under warranty, so that's good. Yesterday the first genealogy meeting went quite well and had about 45 attendees via Zoom. Some were guests from my computer group as this was the other computer group. I had to leave while they still chatted to see the noon webinar, also very good. Today is the usual Sunday stuff and :washing:. Tomorrow should be grocery shopping after H&S if the car is finished.

Chris, your Halloween night is so appealing, especially as we know how much you all enjoy Halloween. I'm surprised J could get out of a harness but know cats are experts at that. Good thing you were quick. Moving all those plants around must have kept you warm even with cooler air. Nice Scott got the field trip in and what a nice area. Do you know what he'll be writing about it?

Trudy, congrats on finishing (your part of) the kitchen reno! I can just see you smiling as you look around it. Gosh, how can your grand be 12? That is getting up there. Sure hope his card arrived as it is super. Hope you get the nice weather you'd like.

Nancy, sure hope the hockey really does start. Can you believe how stupid baseball is looking? I know there are some real issues buried in the squabbling, but it makes the sport seem too petty to care. Oh well, you've got a DS to feed you and now his MG too. I have to reconsider the C J Box books as I read a few at some point but recently I think I had one that I just didn't read. Have you read the Anna Pigeon books by Nevada Barr? They are all in National Parks.

Hi to Kay, Felis and all. Hope it's a lovely day for you.
