Holy humidity! We didn't put the AC on downstairs yesterday. I was outside (yay!), Scott was off hiking, Gary had the AC in the room he was in so nothing was running at all during the day which meant that the heat had built up and couldn't cool down while I was sleeping. My little office window is stuck shut ATM and I am sweatin'

How was everyone's day yesterday? I was able to get out and clear out the weeds that are all along the side of the house, it looks so much nicer. The weather turned out to be great too. It never rained (although I hope that we get some rain soon so the plants don't die). We had a nice time catching up with the neighbors last night too. All in all a good day and I am feeling quite a bit better than I was yesterday.
Ray is somewhat better today, she is still moving slowly but isn't panting or looking as distressed. Today is going to be a low key day I think. FP in the morning and that should be it-- maybe some time outside.

Hoping you all have a fab day as well!

Nancy- can you post the chicken and orzo salad recipe? It sounds really good! Hope that Luther is holding up ok with the heat/humidity

Felis- your day sounds perfect! Time outside, time with the pets, time for a nap! Hope that the rest of your weekend is more of the same.

*waving hi to all of you who pop in today!*

I think lethargy is my word of the week. Wednesday morning I got the long-awaited implant to replace a pulled molar. It isn't fun, but not that bad. But it takes time to heal. (and months until I can get the crown to make like a tooth there). Add that to heat and humidity and I just don't feel like doing much. Reading, some more work on genealogy. Made dinner and we watched an old western movie on TV on the 4th along with fireworks on TV. Best was hearing an Eastern Screech-Owl the last three nights out front somewhere. Yesterday afternoon we got some rain after which it felt nice but today is back to icky. Today we'll probably watch baseball on TV and tomorrow the soccer match.

Chris, your yesterday sounds just about perfect until the heat for sleeping. Sending more healing vibes to Ray to keep getting better. I'm sure you didn't spend any more time than necessary in the office. Outside will be better. Hope Gary is in the A/C keeping cool. Wish I were too.

Felis, you too had a nice sounding day. You asked about my lineage group thing and I'll try to explain. In the US there are national groups celebrating descent from people involved in the American Revolution or arriving on the Mayflower and things like that. At one time they were pretty snobbish, but less so now. As genealogy and family history became widespread, state and county genealogical societies saw the chance to make descent from local residents something for lots of people to celebrate. In my county we have three groups to honor ancestors who settled early, or sort of early, or were here at least 100 years ago. The process gets people to document their families very carefully (which many don't really know how to do in the beginning) and best of all, the documents they put together are archived for future use. Then we have an annual banquet to award certificates to the applicants with the names of all their qualified ancestors. They also get a pin. I just squeaked into the most recent group as my great grandmother came here to live with her married daughter the last few years of her life. Otherwise, my parents were both from elsewhere and didn't arrive in this county until the late 1920s. As the person responsible for evaluating all that documentation, it was really nice to finally be one too. (And someone else evaluated my application. She's my designated assistant but anyone on our steering committee can do the work.) Much of this kind of group revolves around the fact that Americans have been on the move all of our history. Hope that makes some kind of sense.

Wishing everyone a super summer weekend.

Happy Sunday! Thankfully, the humidity is much lower this morning and we have some breezes. That makes my office area feel much nicer!
yesterday was a silly day. Caitlyn and I took W for a walk to the lake so she could swim. (I posted one pic in the July Snapshots thread). That dog in bananas. This was the first swim of the season so we weren't very prepared. Last year, we rigged up two leashes, one regular and one retractable, so she could swim out farther. When I threw out the first stick, she was desperately trying to reach it but the leash was too short. The waves were taking it out farther and she wouldn't stop padding to try to get it. Caitlyn called Gary to see if he would drive over with the extra leash which he did. He watched her swim a bit and then we started to hear thunder. He had driven over in Cait's new car and we were debating whether we should grab a ride back or not with a very muddy dog. We ended up taking the ride and it was a good thing we did. We were only back home for a few minutes when it started to drizzle, then about 10 seconds later it was full on downpour.

I wish that swimming didn't involve giving her a bath everytime b/c that is kind of a pain, but she is actually pretty good on the tub. My other two dogs- not so much at all. She just loves splashing around, it's so cute.
Aside from that, I didn't do too much of anything. I scored some good Italian bread at the FP and a dog toy that W and J already tugged to pieces. (PSA: If anyone donates to food pantries- it is always appreciated to get things other than cans of soups or beans. I appreciate those too, but it is always extra special to get things that I couldn't necessarily buy/afford for myself.)

Today, I have to clean out my fridge and get ready for food shopping tomorrow. The store actually has some decent sales this week but I know that they are going to be out of stock on a lot of them. They always are on Mondays. But I have to go tomorrow b/c PT is on Tues morning. It looks like it might rain today so I might try to use the day to scrap some of the pictures that I have taken the last week or so,

Hugs!

Hello girls,
I saw at the other topic that girls are worry for Kay. Are she in the quakes area? Did someone have contact with her at the social net. I think she said she use FB?! I'm so worry about all these people and animals, It's heartbroken!

Jean thank you for the explanation! And this is so interesting. I'm very intrigued about your genealogy research, it's like detective work but searching in past. Sounds kind of imagery...imagination meet facts. I wish we was able to meet personal, I would love to listen all these stories at one afternoon on tea. Because new questions comes as much as you share. A pilgrim was Puritans who left England, disappointed from dissolute manners and lack of religious strict, if I'm not mistaken Mayflower's story?! I know I read book about that, but I'm so bad with the names and tried but couldn't found it. It was about pregnant English girl and her troubles after see the true character of her husband at the new world, hmmm, I can remember good. This is fan-fiction of course. So you are able to say who is descent from the real Pilgrims, and what is been their real story?! WOW that is awesome! I'm less familiar with the Revolution and really have to fix this. So your great grandma is came first and she is convinced others to join to her. Sounds as very brave woman! I mean it's terrified to start on a new place, and how much hopes and dreams this owns. I can see why you celebrate this in special groups, and personally I don't mind a little bit snobbish!

Chris, I'm relieved to hear that Ray's condition isn't worse! So nice that you have funny day with your neighbors and was able to go out and do what you love to do! Whisky swimming is such a funny and happy shot! It sounds as a perfect family day!

As for me, this weekend I'm occupied with making of hmm... what is english word... we call it something as 'wintering', this food that is conserved for the winter, as jam, juices and other stuff in jars. We have these old morello trees, one for the birds, and one for us. I pick up the cherries. And because is really hot, can do it after sunset, and before rise, and then we boiled them. At some reason my family don't like my jam from previous year, so we make only juice. And my sister will make cake with some of the left fruits. It's a much work for less production. Maybe because the tree is old, or because all of us are scared from height. But we collected fruits, only for few bottles, and we already start to drink them ;) .
Two funny stories:
It's not come on my mind to take photos but was very fun when in some moment Hunter teach on the kittens (we foster now) how to climbing on the tree, and these naughty creatures was up to the top of the tree showing us where are the best fruits.
And second funny thing was when I realized that one Felis up on chair is high just as some top model on her heels. Usually I'm thrilled to be petite lady, sounds kind of victorian gracefulness. But not much useful in situation like that. :bowl::bowl:

I hope you are have lovely weekend, my dears!

Jean- I hope that you are feeling better by the time you read this. I also hope that the weather is more cooperative too. I don't understand why, but Gary's blood sugar gets all mess up with the heat, he goes so high. Between hating the heat on its own along with the high blood sugar fatigue and crankiness, it is no wonder why he dislikes summer. How cool to hear the owl!
The genealogy groups in your county are really a nice way to build a community from past to present to future. I am really happy that you are a big part of it!

Quick check-in... gals... I am not near the quake area... it is about 700 miles from me. I am in New Mexico - not California. My son who lives in Las Vegas did feel both quakes.

Sorry I am in a blue mood right now so not posting in the chat area much.

good Sunday afternoon - I had a nice talk with my sister and she did not feel the earth quakes as she lives in Phoenix. Sure hope everyone is good. I am happy the Tour de France is back. I watched it before soccer. And now I will have fun stuff to watch on TV in the morning - tennis or bike race. LOL. But from Monday through Thursday no baseball as we are at the All-Star break. I watched the USA women win the World cup in soccer. It was a great game. The Dutch team was fantastic and took a 0-0 score into the half. The USA scored on a penalty kick and then one of new comers scored to make it 2-0. I just hope after how well they did they when they go to mediation to prove they deserved equal pay to men. Got a bit of scrapping done. Got in a walk with Luther today. Other days too hot for Luther by the time I got up. Luckily my DH was up early and took Luther out. Cooked some good dinners.

Chris I know what you mean about the humidity. It just sucks the life out of you. We had thunderstorms but luckily my DH had finished mowing. It really came down. I will look for the recipe.

Felis I think we in America have such a short time as a country that we love looking back to see where we come from. One of my Mom's cousins did a complete history on my maternal side of the family. It is very interesting. My relatives lived next to Thomas Jefferson and knew George Washington. I think that is cool. On my dad's side they were involved in what we call the Oklahoma land rush. Folks were held on the border until a specific time and then they raced and found a bit of land to claim. My dad talked about the Native Americans coming to their sod shanty. A Tom Cruise/Nicole Kidman movie from ages ago Far and Away has the land rush at the end of movie. But our country is so young. I know when I go Europe the age of the structures just amazes me.

Jean our rain cooled us off a bit but we still have humidity but we do have a breeze. OMgosh to hear that owl must be so cool. Enjoy the baseball and the soccer was great!

Kay thanks for dropping in.

Have a great day all!
