Can you believe that it is the last weekend in January? (We need the jaw-drop smilie, I used that one a lot.)
But wow, for real, this month went so darn fast. It went much better than last January even with Covid in da houuuse.

I thought I was going to have so much yesterday to scrap and scan and scan and scrap. But no. I messed up and spent the majority of my day either in the kitchen or on the computer searching for recipes. I was making a carmelized leek quiche for dinner so around noon, I set out to make the pie crust. As I was mixing it up, I realized that I forgot to cut the recipe in half. While the dough was chilling, I start looking for a recipe for a single-crust pie. I had a tub of cool whip that had been in the freezer for ~6 months so I thought I would start with that as my base. I had made cookies and milk pie before and decided on that, only to find all of the choc chip cookies were gone. Not enough Oreos to make a cookies and cream pie. Scratch anything that needed pudding as a base because I only had boxes of cooked pudding mix. (Why??? No clue!) I finally decide on a Samoa Pie. The dough was giving me fits, it wasn't coming together at all. It was the same recipe I have used for years and years (Martha Stewart's Perfect Pie Crust) but it was a mess. I finally get the two crusts in the oven and it is almost 4 pm. Now I needed to get the Samoa "crumble" in the oven and then caramelize the leeks. 5 hours later and I am still washing dishes when the quiche comes out of the oven.o_O

I was bummed, I really was looking fwd to scrapping. I actually had been on a roll and didn't want to lose that brief period of time while my mojo was strong (ish). My plan is to work on that today, instead.
Scott and Sam are feeling better, they took Pup out for a ride in the afternoon. I guess if you are going to have to isolate for 5 days, it's not too awful to do it with your SO and dog :rotfl:

better get going, I slept until 6.30 today (yay!) bit now I feel like half of my day is over Bwuahaha!

Heh, I can see that my plans yesterday also included: laundry (yes, 2 loads), vacuuming(not even a little), food shopping spot for next week (took 5 minutes, the real "shopping" is tomorrow when the sales go up)

@LSlycord It sounds like you are being taken care of very well. I am relieved that the Dr put you on Paxlovid.
I am really excited for you and your family, how wonderful to have 2 new babies to love. I hope that you will be able to make a trip home to see everyone.
I think you have done such an incredible job as a mom- it sure seems like giving your kids a wide variety of experiences has done exactly what you hoped.

@BrightEyes how is the car???? Does it have heated seats? You sure could use them with the temps so low. :brrr: (he is so cute!)

@taxed4ever I hear ya about the old clunky cameras. We have an old Canon SLR and DSLR and they weigh a ton.

@vickyday Oh HECK No! Gary is 100% not a teacher. I love him dearly but he would be an awful teacher. He used to run the security alarm division for a fire and safety company before he got sick/disabled. Now he stays home and plays on the computer. AI is Artificial Intelligence. There are websites out there where you give detailed prompts and it creates images based on what you tell it. Some of the results are really cool, others are very creepy. AI seems to struggle with hands.
How is your stomach today, what a horrible feeling that must be :( I am sorry that you weren't able to go see your grands at school.

@bcgal00 Can you tell me about Kindred, what it is about and where to watch it? We finished up a bunch of series this past week and always are looking for something new. Hehe, I love how excited you are over avocado toast ;) Do you have a secret on how to determine the exact 10 minutes that they are "perfectly ripe?" I never seem to get it right :/
That's good to hear, that Jen came up to chat a bit. I hope that each day she feels better
yay that Wendy was so surprised to see you, boo that her eyes were closed in the pics

@Cherylndesigns Yikes!!! Having never experienced using a Mac (unless you count the Apple Computers we used for word processing in the late 80s in the college computer lab. I don't *G* ) I don't think I ever want to. I am LMBO at the video guy, seems like he has it right. Good luck figuring it out. Do any of your g-kids use a mac, I bet Ava or Braden could help if they do. You'll figure it out. One thing I know about you is that you are like a dog with a bone, not going to give up, ever. nuh-uh.

Wow, what a day yesterday was!!! It actually warmed up to 45° by the time the salesman got here to pick me up. The sun was shining so I could take off my coat and we were able to get a couple of photos.

IMG_2974 smaller.jpg

I had him drive us back to the dealership and he showed off several of the safety features. I need to do some reading to get familiar with how to use many of them. By the time all the paperwork was done it was 3:30PM (on Friday) and going-home weekend traffic had started... so I drove straight home. That was after I figured out how to dis-engage the parking brake. Did I mention that this car has push button gear shift??? It has a button with P on it for the brake beside the other push buttons. Decided that since the car had a back-up camera and with the SUV in the garage it left little spare room, I would back the Sonata up. WELL..... The red triangle began blinking... a sound was going off the closer I got to the garage... and the alarm that there was danger. I had stepped on the brake about a foot away from the garage and the safety brake stayed on!! I was sitting there LOL realizing that NOPE... wouldn't be backing the Sonata in beside the SUV... it was just too close a fit. So pulled out into the street, turned it around and slowly eased the Sonata into place... after I turned off the AUTO control on the car... the one that is suppose to warn and help keep the car from hitting another car or any other thing in front of it!!! :rotfl: I did use the back up camera to see that I had pulled the Sonata in far enough that the garage door could close. I was telling DD#3 about all this last evening and she was LOL over it. Then she told me it took her a few weeks to learn about many new 'safety features' on her new hybrid... so I don't feel quite so dumb. #giggleReally need to sell the SUV soon so the garage has plenty of empty space for parking the Sonata. I had forgotten how tight it was when we had the SUV and my little car parked in the garage at the same time. Hope to get that done next week. In the meantime...I need to read the manual about all the controls/features/etc on my new baby!!!

Good morning friends! It's sunny and cool from my bedroom. But I am feeling good. Wish I could say the same for Brian. He started going downhill yesterday afternoon and I think that Covid has him. Someone needs to go pick up my prescriptions so I guess that will be me. I'll go through the drive through with a mask on and I'll try to get them to sell me a couple of at home Covid tests. So far, Shaun remains healthy!

My big plans today are to finish the Charles Martin book, "A Life Intercepted". And do a couple more layouts. But first, let me get some personals done!

@BrightEyes look at that cute little car! Love it! And totally hear you about all of those safety features. We had a rental car that had some new safety features and I was confident the entire time that I would wreck the car. Reading the manual sounds like an excellent idea!

@faerywings isn't it crazy how things can take you down the rabbit hole? How was the Samoa pie though...sounds delicious.

@taxed4ever I agree. I still have my heavy Nikon but it doesn't come out very often. I'm sure that your sister was just delighted to have you and your other sister show up for the retirement celebration! The three of you have such a good relationship!

@vickyday yes, I certainly agree that I'm glad that I don't need the energy to have twin boys. I hope that you are feeling better today. "Where the River Ends" was the first Charles Martin book that I read. It took me a bit to get into it but then I loved it.

@bcgal00 I am so happy to hear that Jen came up to visit with you. Hope that you have plans this weekend to get out and do a hike with the dogs.

I'll talk to all of you later.

Good Morning All!
Happy Saturday!
I am feeling better today, thank the Lord! I actually ate a bit of granola cereal last night and a couple of biscuits and jelly this morning! So far so good!
No hard and fast plans today. Dishes are running, the meat I bought at Costco is separated into meal portions ($2/meal for pork loin) and some laundry drying! WOOHOO! I'm on a roll!
I'm working on a puzzle and listening to a Charles Martin book. That's my plan for the day! DH and I will hopefully finally be able to go out for supper tonight. He has been wanting seafood forever! I don't do seafood, but they always have chicken!
Have a great weekend!

@faerywings I have days like that... looking for recipes based on what I have available. Sorry it took up most of your day and you spent hours in the kitchen. At least you did get some laundry done. <<< hugs >>>

@LSlycord Oh, NO... sorry to hear that Gary may have Covid now. Yes, doing the drive-up window wearing a mask at the pharmacy is the smart thing to do. Hope they have the Covid Home tests kits so you can get an answer if Gary has it. Glad your doctor put you on the meds. Enjoy your book. I have read it and it is good.

@vickyday Glad you are feeling better. Enjoy your dinner out with hubby. And, I do understand about inheriting a vehicle from your 1st hubby. The SUV - Journey was my DH's vehicle. It got better gas mileage than my little car so I sold mine and kept his.

I figured out that the aches and stiffness I woke up with yesterday probably was because I had slept in a light-weight gown (due to hot flashes). I must have curled up into a tight little ball as I slept due to feeling cold. Yes, the heat and massage from the Dr Scholl's massager and the heated neck roll eased the aches and pain yesterday morning. I wore heavy flannel PJ's last night and didn't wake up with aches and stiffness today.

Happy Saturday everyone!! Brrr:brrr: a cold front has moved in and it is now 4º colder than it was just an hour ago!! Looks like there is fresh snow on the mountain tops and the sky is blue, so we should see some sunshine today. I guess winter is not done with us just yet! Today might not be very busy for DH and myself (shocker I know)!! I only have a few groceries to get and really not anything to do. So my plan is to get some more scrapping done and work on the painting a bit more. It's almost done :nod1:. Then I suppose it will soon be time for me to get coupons ready and behind the scene things started for next month. Yikes!! It is hard to believe how fast January has gone by! Usually its the longest darn month of the year, but not this year! I agree @faerywings we need the jaw drop smiley here!!

@faerywings - Doesn't it just aggravate you when you have days like that!! All those plans to do things and none of them work out! Well I hope that things go better for you today! Happy to hear that Scott and Sam are both feeling much better! Yes they are lucky to have had each other and the pup to isolate with! Hope you and your Gary are still feeling ok!

@BrightEyes - Wow look at that new Car!!! She's a beauty!!! Hope you get the SUV sold soon so you can park that baby safely in the garage with lots of room to spare! Have fun learning all the bells and whistles!! So happy for you!

@LSlycord - Ohhh nooo not your hubby now!! Hope he doesn't get too sick! Do you have to pay for at home covid tests?? They have a huge bin of them in almost every store here and they are free, you can take as many as you want. Guess that's one good thing that our Govt. has done during all this madness! Glad to hear that Shaun is still healthy!! Hopefully he will dodge this bullet! Yes my sisters and I do love each other so much! We were very close growing up, I guess it helps that we are all very close in age! Sister Wendy was very happy to see us at her workplace, shocked the heck out of her LOL.

@vickyday - Glad to hear that your tummy is feeling better, the biscuits would have done me in!! I can't have any kind of gluten anymore. Nice that you and your DH will be going out for supper tonight! I don't do fish either, but my Gary sure loves it! I love shell fish, but not fish, fish, I think its the smell that turns me off??

Ok I best get another coffee #coffee-4and get on with my day, wonder what I should make for brunch today?? Bacon and eggs over easy?? Yup that sounds good! Have a great day everyone!

I sold both of ours when my son gave his to me. It was paid for and she wanted a truck, so they gave me the Equinox SUV. I love it! It had 50,000 miles on it when they gave it to me at 4 years old. It is now, 5 1/2 years later, at 10 years old it has 130,000+ miles on it! I keep the oil changed regularly and have had a bit of AC work done, but other than that is still going strong! I hope and pray it goes for many more years and miles as we certainly cannot afford a car payment at today's car prices!

The smell is part of it, for sure! Just never been a big fish eater! Mark was raised with it and that might have something to do with it. Growing up in Indiana we just didn't eat fish or seafood.
Unfortunately, carbs seem to be easy on my stomach.....not so much for the hips and thighs, however! :rotfl:

I'm back. Chris @faerywings yes, Ava has always had Mac's. However, she's been out of town since I got this. She'll be home tomorrow. At least, it's all set up thanks to Braden. He's never had a Mac before either - he just got his first one for college - he got a Mac Book Pro I think. I'm not sure he really knows how to use it yet. He decided he'd rather have a new Mac Book instead of them spending money on a graduation party. LOL That's SO Braden. The one he got is very pricey. He got all of my passwords in for iCloud, etc, etc, etc. I love that my iPhone texts are already showing on my computer screen, though. It's going to be nice to be able to work things across all my devices. Before, after I took pictures on my Iphone, I had to get them on my PC so I could scrap them. I either had to download them from Google Photos or email them to myself. Not having to do that is going to be awesome. I'm LOLing over your saying I'm like a dog with a bone. I REALLY am - that's a perfect description of me! Guess what I was doing while I was getting my pedi? Reading on my phone about making the move from a PC to a Mac. :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

Kay @BrightEyes your new car is SO beautiful and don't you look spiffy posing beside it!!! 'm so happy you and you had such a good experience even while getting it!! I can just see you behind the wheel of your new car. Had to laugh about you sitting in it and trying to figure things out. Been there, done that. It's always a challenge to get new cars. Adrienne recently got a new car - I think I told you, but we had to drive to Arkansas to get it. They had none available here at that time - it was a couple of months ago and she waitied for a quite a while to get it. I remember how excited she was that day - so I can just see you at the dealership. They had her car in a special "holding garage" and there was a big red bow on it!

Sending hugs to everybody and happy weekend!

XOXO

I've been out all day. Remi and I drove all around, burned up half a tank of gas and went to numerous parks and enjoyed the cold fresh air. Tomorrow it drops another 20 so will go for a walk, but a short one.

@faerywings Not sure who is showing Kindred (time travel back to the 1800's), I think it originates from Hulu.

@BrightEyes Yay, you got the vehicle! How exciting!

I need to go make dinner now. Something quick and easy. Hope you all have enjoyed your day.

good morning, my lovelies!
Another day and another morning already getting away from me. And I wonder why I feel like I am getting nothing done#crazy-2

Looks like my plan was to spend yesterday scrapping again. Guess what? It didn't happen. I started a LO but didn't get too far with it. Maybe today. It's all good though. Caitlyn, Gary, and I worked on a puzzle together and it is difficult. All strangely shaped pieces and half of them are solid blue and the other half are lines and squiggles. Made me bleary-eyed after a while.
Caitlyn and I finally infused vodka together too. My ILs got us an infusing kit and a big bottle of Titos. We are infusing three flavors. A lavender/rosemary mix and a cinnamon/vanilla oak mix- those flavors came with the kit. And one jar of fresh pineapple/vodka mix.
She is so funny, she put on a mix of alcohol-related songs (do you like pina coladas... getting caught in the rain. And Teqiila! Ended with Tubthumping) while we worked and danced together shaking the bottles. We are silly :)

Not much happening today - maybe, just maybe I will be able to finish the LO

Hugs!

I finished my book and picked up my meds. I talked with Sydney and Shaun took my debit card and went to the store for us. I don't have much appetite and I sure didn't want to cook. It was cold enough yesterday that I turned the furnace on to take the chill off. But this morning, I am sitting on the lanai in 55° temps with an expected high of 77°. It's cloudy but, looking at the next 45 day forecast, I think that all of our cold weather is behind us.

I feel good this morning and Brian feels decent. I'm hoping to do some scrapping. And make sure that I am caught up on posting my layouts everywhere. I think that I may have fallen asleep in the middle of that a few times!

@BrightEyes glad that the massage chair took care of the aches and pains.

@taxed4ever I suppose it makes sense that winter isn't quite finished with you since it is still January. Although, I woke up thinking when will we get to daylight savings time. I guess that it seems like we have endured the darkness long enough.

@Cherylndesigns I really admire the way you are hanging in there on the Mac! About 5 years ago, I decided I wanted one. I lasted about a week. Then Shaun inherited it.

@faerywings I love the music selection for the vodka infusion! Sounds like you had a great day!

While I was sitting here, we had some birds. We have more and more all of the time. And a couple of minutes ago, we had a bluebird! Loving it. And no wildlife invading the neighborhood yet!

@BrightEyes That car is gorgeous, and just look at you too :heartpumplove: It took my mom *forever* to figure out the safety features/lights/sounds on her car. I was giggling at you backing into the driveway-- Nope, not today, Parking Brake and Back-Up Camera. LOL Have a great time learning about all of the bells and whistles. Hope the old car sells quickly!

@LSlycord I am so glad that you are feeling better but that bites that Brian got it. I see that he is feeling pretty ok, *fingers crossed he gets better fast* It's really weird how covid hits everyone differently. Cait and Gary had it at the same time-he was much, much sicker than her. Sam and Scott, she is sicker than him, he said that it only feels like a semi-strange head cold. If he hadn't tested he would have assumed that was all it was.
Shaun is still feeling OK?

The Samoa pie was good but very sweet, too sweet IMO. It was a base of cool whip, cream cheese, and sweetened condensed milk. If I make it again, I'll use the other base for cool whip pies- cream cheese and powdered sugar. The crumble part was good!

@vickyday So happy to hear that your stomach is better, did you make it out for Mark's seafood dinner?

BTW, Kay- Trudy and I have hubbies named Gary. Linda's is Brian :D Two Garys here are more than enough to keep track of LOL
Glad that the muscles loosened up and that slept better and warmer.

@taxed4ever That *is* a shocker that your Gary didn't have a ton of plans, hope that means you were able to scrap and paint and relax.
You don't want to know how much it costs to get Covid tests here. $20 for a pack of two tests. Gary gets a few boxes (a total of 8 tests IIRC) through Medicare for free each month but he has to remember to refill them and no matter how often I remind him, he forgets [this is where we need the rolling pin emoji]:soapbox: <~ guess this has to do for now haha

@Cherylndesigns High fives to Braden for helping you get set up on the Mac. Sorry to say, he will have it figured out in no time-- that generation has tech bred into their bones, I think. But then he will be able to teach you all of the tricks. You have the best g-kids.
A dog with a bone, *nods* I'm glad you see it too:rotfl:

@bcgal00 Oooh, :brrr: -- dress warm when you head out today. I will have to check out Kindred since we have Hulu.

I worked on the puzzle til almost 3. Was up again at 4:30 to put my house coat and socks on. Warmed up enough to get to sleep until 8:30 when the alarm went off. Tylenol dose and back to bed for 15 minutes when I decided to get up and take a steamy shower. The headache did ease up, thank the Lord!

Pork roast and potatoes in the crockpot for lunch. More puzzling this afternoon. That's about it for me today.

Have a great day!

Good morning ladies. It's cold today, 12. I was going to go to the park today but might just take Remi to the dog park for a bit later and other than that, stay home. We had a long chat with Jen last night and a big part of her stress is her job. She can't handle the moods of the owner and she apparently swears and calls them stupid quite a bit. I knew she was quirky but I didn't know she belittled the staff like she does. I told Jen to quit this week and get out of there. With her vulnerable state, she doesn't need an added stressor in her life.

To perk her up, I told her we'd go to Clearwater in a few days, stay the night and go see the frozen waterfall.

I need to go thru the freezers and see what needs to be used up before expiring. I am trying to not be so wasteful in this terrible economy.

@faerywings Sounds like you had a fun day yesterday. Enjoy your quiet day today.

@vickyday Glad you are feeling better. Enjoy the roast.

I need to get out to feed the birds and get some laundry in. HAGD everyone.

Good morning, all.

It's pretty brisk here today, but going up to 50. Yesterday was decent - I wore my flip flops to the nail salon and wasn't too cold. I had jeans and a sweatshirt on so I was comfortable. For 5 dollars more, I started getting acrylic polish - about 3 times ago. They use that UV machine so they're dry immediately. It's so nice to not have them chip. I wish I could do my own, but I can't - I have polish all over my toes, plus I need to keep them trimmed up and that's really difficult for me to do too. I always used to end up cutting myself. We go about once a month or sometimes a tad bit longer.

Chris @faerywings I can just see (and hear) you and Cait infusing your vodka - were you taking sips as well? You have to taste it as you go, right? Those are great songs! There are some great country drinking songs, too. Yes, I'm lucky I have these techy kids. Ava got home last night and came over to get her dog. She started whipping around on my new Mac and was doing screenshots of the two of us and changing them into all these fun things. She's coming over later today to show me how to do some things. She's had a Mac since she got her first laptop. She said Braden got it set up well, but she wants to change some things. LOL I told her I need to get PSE and PSCC on it first of all. No problem - she said. I told you my text messages are already on there, didn't I? She was playing with that last night, too and showing me all the things I could do with those. There's light at the end of the tunnel. :nod1::waving1

Linda @LSlycord glad you're feeling a BIT better and hope Brian snaps out of it soon. That's so sweet that Shaun went to the store. He probably had to if he wanted to eat, right? LOL So, you gave up on the Mac, huh? I've not heard that story. Yes, I'm determined to master this thing. I figure it will take about a month, but I have those techy kids - Ava will get it all straightened out. Braden is just learning how to use his Mac Book Air (or whatever he got). He's always had PC's, too. I HATED the keyboard that came with it, it's SO long and has all the calculator crap on it, which I never like to have on my keyboard. Ava took one look at it, last night, and said "oh, that's not even a Mac keyboard". We bought the whole thing refurbished, and I know nothing about anything, but I hate it. We have a new one ordered that will be here supposedly tomorrow. I just need the keys and I use the numbers at the top anyway. I told her I wasn't crazy about the mouse either, and she said we could just use my old one that I use on my laptop. She's "the answer girl". :rotfl:

Vicky @vickyday did I see that you didn't like seafood? I thought I saw that in an earlier post. But Mark does? I grew up in Indiana, too, but liked (most) of it the first time I ever tried it. I don't think it's an acquired taste - you either like it or you don't. It's tough not to have that "smell" in a restaurant in Florida. They almost all have seafood on the menu. One time my sister came to visit us (she hates seafood and the smell) and it was really hard to find a restaurant that she could stomach. I don't like fish with bones in it, however. My husband does - he just picks them out. (Trout comes to mind.) Orange roughy is a good fish to start with if you want to try. I even got my dad to admit that it was good.

Kay @BrightEyes hope your massage chair has helped - you probably got too excited over your new car. :rotfl:

Hugs to all and Happy Sunday!

I am late getting in here this AM... spent most of last night dreaming about writing my Grandmother's history. DD#3 leads a group at her work and in March the theme will be Women in History - focus on a woman in your family that you admire. She wanted to do hers on my maternal Grandmother. We had talked about 'Mommie' and some of her history a couple of evenings ago. So I got up this morning and dug into photos, documents, etc that I have and spent the morning writing out the high-lights of her life. Also selected some photos of her and her husbands (3) and the family for DD to look at and select which ones she wants. Good thing that I have been scanning in stuff from my mom's albums so I have them in the computer. DD will be coming over to get this... and talk about any other questions she has about Mommie.

I slept in the heavy PJs again last night and woke up with no stiffness this morning. I did wake up a couple of times to throw off or put the covers back on but went right back to sleep.

I have an appointment tomorrow to take the SUV to a dealer who is interested in buying it. Hope he comes through on it with a good enough price. Need to finish clearing stuff out of the SUV and get the title, keys, etc to take with me.

Will be back later to do personals... but need to get a shower and get dressed. CYL

My son gave me an apple lap top. It is hard for me to get around on it! I wish he were close so he could teach me how to use it! I haven't switched my stuff over from my laptop because I would need to buy a different version of PSE, right?
Fish.....I do eat tilapia sometimes. I used to eat the fish at Long John Silver's, too.....if that is real fish, LOL!
