Ha! Yup, I know that most of you are happy that the cooler temps are coming in. Just let me have a tiny pity party for today. It's seriously cold here this morning (50*) and I did not want to get out of bed. I read in the news yesterday that "Central Park did not hit 90 at all in August, the first time the temperature failed to reach the benchmark in the month of August since 1986." I am 40-50 miles from there but typically a few degrees cooler, usually ~5*. But it really looks pretty outside right now, clear blue sky.

Part of the reason I didn't want to get out of bed was all of the activity yesterday. I cleaned for 3 hours and then hiked for 2.5 more. Scott took Gary and me to Apshawa Preserve and it was a gorgeous day for a hike. Just a perfect one. We felt bad for leaving the dogs behind. They started bouncing around when they saw me get my backpack out. They would have had a tough time, it is a 6.5-mile hike and very rocky. Heck, we would have had a tough time not getting pulled down by them. LOL I love getting to spend time with both of my guys ♥

I have a lot of yard cleanup to do today. Guess I need to start clipping back some of the spent flowers. My basket of inpatients is very scraggly. I usually don't get fall flowers for the patio but they are next to the hummingbird feeder. I might have to splurge and get a fresh basket for the next month or so.
Does anyone know how long will the hummingbirds stay around as it gets cooler and what flowers would they like?

Today I am grateful for spending time with Gary and Scott.

Love to you all! xo

Good morning. Nothing exciting happening here. I did start the day off with getting Wordle in one try! I share my results with Sydney every morning and she knows my starter word so I guess she will get it in one try too. I also placed a grocery order and it will be here at 5:00. I'm telling you, the excitement here never ceases.

We are taking some of Syd's notes from last year's classes to Sydney tomorrow so I canceled my massage because I'd sure rather get a hug from my girl than a massage! Shaun said he wanted to come if we were taking Syd to lunch at the Chinese All You Can Eat buffet. We hadn't decided on a place but we have now. Having both of my kids for awhile...I'll take it!

First off, @Cherylndesigns I am so sorry that Marley is in the vet hospital. I hope that you get some really good news about him soon.

@vickyday The washer drum is the size of a propane tank for a grill. He washed a work uniform- pants, two shirts, and his wool socks. I think it can hold three pairs of jeans at once (four for him since his jeans are much smaller than Gary's LOL!!). It's pretty cool!
Where did you and Mark go for lunch?
Whew, that's a relief that you and your sister are both ok from the storm.

@BrightEyes I didn't see the moon but Scott said how awesome it was. He and a bunch of friends went on a night hike where you can see the NYC skyline. He said it was the perfect night to see both, everything all lit up.
Yay for getting the 2024 calendar, scary to think we will be needing them soon. You couldn't have asked for better timing with the hospital visits with DD/SIL. *fingers crossed that DS#1 will be around then too*
That sounds very similar if not the same thing that your niece has as a washer. (Can't really call it a machine LOL)

@Cherylndesigns I bet you were happy when Daisy came back from the groomer, I also bet that she is going to get a lot more snuggles today while you wait on news about Marley. Give all of the dogs extra love from me too.
if you find any ab exercises that really work, please let me know. I am always *thisclose* to clicking on the "The Best Way to Lose Belly Fat" ads. -- They're ads, Faery! Don't get tempted!
You should be really proud of yourself for sticking with exercising and keeping an eye on the ball long-term. That is where I am now, thinking of how active I want to be as I get older. The window is mostly closed on my skincare routine. pfft. I have oily, Italian skin and didn't realize how fast you lose firmness. While I don't have crow's feet-type wrinkles, I have sun damage and sagginess.
My grandfather died when he was 86 and I swear, he had a few forehead wrinkles and that was it. I thought/hoped I would get those genes... LOL
Thank you for the suggestions and encouragement!!

@LSlycord That's too bad that you didn't get to see the moon. Very cool to see the surfers!
Good vibes for the job/projects coming your way :sparkles1:

@bcgal00 What is a bedroom community? I haven't heard that term before.
I can't imagine the stress you are under. I hope that you don't have to lose that much money, that is mindboggling.
Hang in there :hanging: , try to focus on the cruise if you can xoxo

You didn't come across as preachy, Cheryl. I took it as the choices we make when we are younger, not the stuff that we had no say in.

@faerywings when do you leave for PA? Yesterday sounds exhausting...but wonderful! A hike with Gary and Scott...and perfect weather. WOW! I know that you soaked that all in. Couldn't quite believe that I needed to flip the page of the calendar this morning. I do want the cooler weather...but I don't quite feel like I want to be on the downside of 2023 and that's how it feels when we get to fall. And I am so proud of how you are handling Scott's move!

@Cherylndesigns all good thoughts coming for Marley. I know what a worry it is when one of them is sick. And you sure didn't sound preachy at all. The doctor is right and I wish that I had prioritized my health more when I was younger. Getting old is hard and I don't like it one bit, but I don't like the alternative so I'm going to stay the "getting old" track

@vickyday glad that you mentioned getting your tracking threads set up. I need to do that today! Glad that your sister didn't get anything from the hurricane. Now if they just stay away for the remainder of the season!

@bcgal00 I am really sorry about the house. That is so much stress. I sure hope that you can get it sold before the cruise! And, yes, being near medical care is so important. I grew up in a bedroom community...which is now a full fledged suburb with lots of services and shops. Remind me where your cruise is going? I love that excursion you have planned in France! Great news about the laptop.

@BrightEyes glad you found the pocket calendars for your purse. It will be fun to have your DD come for lunch. And I know that you are anxiously awaiting the dates for when your son will be visiting!

Ok...I'm off to work. Hope everyone has a great day!

Real quick in and out... just got Challenge #2 - Heritage loaded into the gallery. Need to finish loading it elsewhere. Yes, that is Aunt Mary and Uncle Jim in the photo with Uncle Herbert, his wife and our grandmother in the photo... Guess you could say that some of the family members lived some adventurous lives. :p Just glad that they told me the stories behind the photos... :talk:

And speaking of family history, I just got the book "Just Deal With It - a memoir of resilience" written by Karen Young Sheppard - memories of Bonnie Carman Sheppard. Yes, that is my cousin Bonnie who just passed away. It is memories of her family (the Carmen's - my mom's Uncle and 1st cousins) and growing up after her mom passed away when Bonnie was 3. I laughed and cried as I read it. It brought memories of family and places. Bonnie was only 7 years older than I am so we shared some of the same memories. And the treasure is that included a family tree back to my maternal great-grandparents!!!

Good Morning everyone! yup its me finally back from my time off and I am feeling refreshed! It really was the best thing to do, to stay off of my computer and just spend time with all the family! My house is back to normal and the pool is down and toys put away, it is way to quiet here!! I am missing everyone so much, but happy to know that they are all safely back home and that they all are happy and healthy. Well except for our son Jason, who picked up Covid on the trip home, he said he wasn't really very sick, mostly had the sweats and thankfully no one else got it. He tested positive for 7 days and so was pretty bummed that he had to isolate from the rest of the world. The kids are all excited to get back to school and I am sure that their parents are also LOL. We really did have a lot of fun with everyone and did some fun outings, but for the most part they were pretty happy to just hang out here at our place and enjoy the warm weather and the pool. So its back to reality for me and I have lots to catch up on with all of you! I need to go through some older posts and find out what is happening at the O. Its time to get some coupons made and handed out to the challenge winners also. It's the long weekend for us here and we are headed to my brother's for his birthday supper and visit and have a visit with some other mutual friends as well. I need to get my photos all sorted out from this summer and start scrapping again. It will soon be time to get my Calendar started as well. So other than catching up here, today will be spent making a birthday card for my bother and getting a parcel out in the mail for Heather. A few things did not make it into the suitcase while she was here, so we packed them up and they will be sent out today. I hope that all of you are well and that September brings you lovely warm and colourful days! The leaves are already changing here and we had a couple of days of very welcome rain. Not enough to lift the watering restrictions, but enough to make the air smell wonderfully clean and fresh. Enjoy your day everyone! :hug4:

Good morning ladies. The cooler temps are very welcome. The birds were singing all day in the backyard and we had chukars in the yard for a bit. I haven’t seen them often in Kamloops so it sure was a surprise to see them in the yard. I managed to get a few photos (they are on FB) before the dogs’ barking scared them off.

I will do some closet cleaning today and want to get out to the dog park this afternoon.

@faerywings Sounds like a busy day but fun. I can’t wait for the cooler temps so I can get out for hikes again with the dogs. Bedroom community is close to the city (Calgary) and many commute for work. They have a few amenities but is not self-sustaining, it requires going into the city for lots of things. Strathmore is 5000 people and has a few stores but not many. But it is only a 40 min drive to downtown Calgary.

@LSlycord Chinese food for lunch sounds good. I have not had any since moving here. Our cruise starts in Barcelona Spain and stops at 7 ports throughout the Mediterranean Sea before docking in Rome Italy. We are spending 2 days in Barcelona and 2 days in Rome before coming home. It’ll be almost 3 wks.

Welcome back Trudy. I know you miss your family but what a great summer it sounds like you had with them.

I’m getting coffee and going outside with Remi. HAGD everyone.

Good afternoon.

Well, Marley made it through the night - I guess the vet wasn't sure if she would, so that's a good thing. They honestly don't know what's wrong with her. It could be a number of things and a tick bite might be one of them. We have so many ticks out here and we check our dogs and outside cats all the time. They all have flea and tick collar on, so what more can you do? The emergency vet in Tulsa isn't convinced it's a bone fragment, so we're just in a holding pattern. Her white count is elevated and I don't even want to type this word, but it starts with an L.

Ava's birthday is Sunday and we had plans for that plus the holiday weekend, so I don't know what's going to happen at this point.

I'll try to come back and do some personals later. Adrienne is going to call me in a few minutes so we can try to figure out some things.

Our hummers are generally around through September, I believe, at least. But, we are probably a little warmer than you are. Flowers? Not a clue, especially potted fall ones.

Gotcha! That would hold about 1 pair of Mark's heavy work pants from Duluth! They are thick and heavy! I don't know how he stands to wear them!
We went to Mama Mia's. We split a chicken Philly and fries combo and get an extra drink. He got a slice of pizza, too, yesterday.

Good afternoon!
Mark had to work on the front brakes of the car today, so Ilene came to my house and I drove her car and went to see Carolyn. They put her in a rehab nursing facility to try to strengthen her legs as she cannot stand on her own. Her back is a mess and she has a lot of pain. We stayed several hours and then left around 1:30 to eat lunch before Ilene brought me back home. She left since she was eating supper with her daughter tonight. I ordered Mark some food at the restaurant. He took the car to his work shop so he could work on it easier and was just getting back when we got home. He said the back brakes are bad, too, so he is going to work on those tomorrow.
We are trying to work on getting some of the people from church to come tomorrow or Sunday for a cook out in the woods at our pits. Hopefully everyone will be able to do it tomorrow since the weather is supposed to be as beautiful tomorrow as it is today! Cooler temps with low humidity! Perfect!
I showed the baby blanket to Ilene while she was here. She loves it! The rows are going faster and faster as I decrease on each row!
Nothing else going on with me. After Mark ate he went to the woods. He built a fire this morning while he was down there early. He loves to build a fire early and does some reading and enjoying the cooler temps in his beloved woods!
Hope everyone had a great day and a great weekend to come!
