Who else is dragging their butts to the weekend? Hoo boy, I am! It was a long day yesterday. Long and frustrating. By the time I got back home, I felt emotionally wrung out.
My parents were already in bicker mode when I got to their house, albeit slightly subdued.
I took my dad to Same Day Surgery and he was fine. He is always fine with me. Fine most of the time with my brother. With my mom-- *sighs* Not so much.
And vice versa.
So yeah, it was another typical day trying to listen and guide her through all of the s*** she carries around. You've heard it all before so no need to get into it. How can I love someone so much and enjoy her company on her good days and want to smack sense into her on the bad ones? (Rhetorical question, obviously)

I spoke to the urologist after the surgery and it is cancer. Visually looks to be low-grade but the biopsy will confirm what type. Treatment will be careful monitoring or possibly internal chemotherapy- they place the chemo meds into the bladder. Dr also mentioned that "because of my dad's kidney issues he shouldn't take ibuprofen for any discomfort." I blurted to the Dr, "What kidney issues? He never told us about that!"
Soooo, yeah-- kidney issues, that was news to me! I asked him about that after I picked him up and it is something his GP is aware of and has been monitoring for years. Apparently, he shows early signs of chronic kidney disease but that has been stable since they first flagged it.

Mentally, I am drained. It is another gorgeous weather day today and Gary doesn't think he is up to a hike so I might go by myself. I have to figure out where I want to go.

Thank you all very very much for the good thoughts and the support. I appreciate it :lovey3:

@vickyday Isn't that the truth, that road crews are always where you want to go? Thankfully northern NJ is pretty well connected with various routes. There are two main "backroads" I could use to get to my parents but the road closures blocked both of them. I took the highways instead and thankfully there weren't any accidents or major construction-- a rarity!
I am LMBO at the picture of you-- only a dedicated scrapper would do that! ♥
It sounds like the breaks were relatively clean and hopefully they will heal on their own without surgery. Lots and lots of bones in the hand, you could have been hurt so much worse. Good to hear that the pain and swelling ios getting better too. xo

@BrightEyes On my! That must have been terrifying hearing about your niece's situation on the road. I am so glad that no one got hurt. So sorry that you won't get to visit them :( Will they be passing through/nearby on their way home at any point?
I guess there was a necessity to know street names when you moved as often as you did. Since I have lived in basically the same two areas all my life, it's more of learning to get around through osmosis LOL!

@taxed4ever I still can't get over the fact that it snowed. Meanwhile, my mom and I ate our lunch outside and I was starting to sweat in my black t-shirt.
Hugs to you when you're missing your grands. Facetime has to be better than a phone call but how hard not being able to hug them in person.
hehe! I am so grateful for GPS too. I'd literally be lost without it. I checked out Google Maps and Waze and they weren't helpful at all this time. Denville is called the "hub of Morris County" because it connects 5 state and interstate highlights, all of which have regular commuter traffic problems at 9 a.m. Every road in that 2-mile radius was red. :rolleyes1:
Having dinner with the 4 of us was a good ending to a rough day. My brother is a doll and told me to order pizza and he'd cover it. I miss having Scott here but am so glad he comes over often.

Linda- I still haven't heard anything about the job. I am going to text Ann today but ATM, I am wondering if I should even bother :/

@LSlycord Yuuuuuuuuuuuuck!!! *wrapping you in a big hug* I wish the doctors explained more about their decision *against* the TAVR. That's a great idea to get a second opinion. That way you should have more info. Even the small OHS is a huge difference in recovery and with some unintended consequences -- like losing your job. Would you be covered by Family Medical Leave- that covers 12 weeks of recovery? Or are you considered a contractor rather than an "employee?" Maybe that makes a difference. It shouldn't and healthcare shouldn't be tied to employment. Ever. Uh-oh. Don't get me started on the US Health Insurance system :soapbox:
Hang in there, lots of good thoughts coming your way!~

@Cherylndesigns what a relief that Chuck is feeling better. But man, I gotta laugh that he doesn't want to do what he is told. Stubborn Chucks, one and all. My dad wants to blow leaves today. Almost 85, surgery yesterday-- with general anesthesia- bladder cancer diagnosis and, sure let's go and work in the yard :banghead:
Men! Chucks!
I hope that Roger can get it through to him the better he "behaves" now, the sooner he can get home and do what he wants.
Ugh, that is a pet peeve of mine -- different names for the same road! And why in the world would anyone put *in* roundabouts??? In NJ there are called circles and most of them have been removed because no one knows how to drive through them. And with good reason, they're a mess. NJ drivers are some of the most aggressive and impatient. Circles bring out the worst in us :rotfl:
PS: Love your nickanme. Roller Derby! Accurate. Hahahahahaha!!

@faerywings so sorry to hear that it is cancer. Glad that they have a couple of options for treatment that seem like they won't derail his life. And, oh my goodness, what a way to find out about the kidney issues. I'm sure you are drained after that! Hope that the time with the family last night was good. And I really hope that you can get out in the beautiful weather and get a hike in.

Ok...new update on me. I promise you that I am not as flakey as this makes me sound. But I totally agree on the US Healthcare system. So, Brian drove the paperwork to Mayo Clinic to allow them to release records. As soon as we got those, I planned to overnight them to Cleveland Clinic. HOWEVER, at 6:15 my phone rang. It was the person who regularly sees me at Mayo. She wanted to talk about why I wasn't proceeding with them. I told her that maybe I would but that I really want a TAVR and at this point, no one has explained why I am not a candidate. She said that I am a candidate but went through the whole thing about my age. I said that I totally understand that but explained that it would be a hardship on my family. (I have explained this to her at least twice and Brian was with me once. I have also explained it to the surgeon and his nurse...and Brian was there as well.)

Well she said she understands that and they will do a TAVR if that is what I want. Are you kidding me? Was there ever a time that I said I would prefer OHS (mini or otherwise)? That answer is NO! She said that they would support the second opinion if that is what I wanted. I said that I only needed the second opinion to find out if I could do TAVR...since they will do it, I'm onboard. So they will call me today to schedule. Seriously, if you don't advocate for yourself in this country, they will walk all over you.

Hopefully, I will know more before heading into the weekend! (@Cherylndesigns both my father and my mother-in-law had OHS about 25 years ago and it wasn't easy. I know that it has improved but this TAVR is soooo much easier. I just want to get this moving.

Parents! You love to hate them sometimes!
Praying the cancer is low-low-grade and that the treatment doesn't cause issues with his kidneys!
Hope Gary feels better soon!

Good morning, Lovelies.

Daisy decided "we" wanted to get up at 8:30 this morning, she is in total "guard mode" won't let me out of her sight. I know she's guarding me - it's too obvious. I think she was ready to start her "guard duty" because she went and laid in front of the door. Normally, she stays on the bed until I get up, but for some reason, not this morning.

Chris @faerywings I'm so sorry to hear about your dad. What a shock to find out about the kidney issues, in addition to the cancer! Yes, Chucks are cut from a different cloth. Your dad doesn't happen to be a Gemini, does he? Will keep the good thoughts coming your way for ALL of you - including your mom and dad's relationship.

Linda @LSlycord great news that you can get the TAVI - what a PITB - no need to put you through that. I have a hate/hate relationship with the pharmacy, too. They drive me crazy, but I don't want to get into that right now. I just pray that I get what I need and yes, we have to advocate for ourselves!

I'm not entirely awake yet, so I'm going to drink my tea and then try to get some of my CP posted. I kept it down this month.

Morning everyone, it is chilly and sunny this morning. The snow has pretty much all melted, but our front yard still has the white stuff on in as it doesn't get any sunshine this time of year. I forgot that the man from the blind company was coming for the quote on our blinds yesterday. He called at 9:30 and asked if he could come a bit early :bouncing:this was me, as I was still in my PJ's and hadn't had a shower yet :showering2:. It was the quickest shower in history :giggle4:. Good thing he had a bit of a drive before he arrived. He was very friendly and we chatted a lot while we went through the process of finding just the right blinds for the kitchen. Thank goodness they were 50% off!! We went with solar motorized blinds in white that have 95% UV protection, so hopefully they will help keep the kitchen cooler in the summer. It will take 6-8 weeks before they get installed, but thats ok, it will be just around Christmas when we have them put up. We will still see the view through them when they are closed, so that is nice too! Today I hope to play with some more color play goodies and I did manage to get my layouts finished and uploaded to the gallery then I worked a bit more on my junk journal. It's almost done and I have had so much fun putting it together! The next few days are full sunshine, so I hope that DH and I will be able to finish off the yard work in the back this weekend. We are headed to Costco tomorrow morning and we have to drop off a batch of wine to FIL and MIL before we go as they will be here in town. (because FIL just can't not drive :shakingsense:). @faerywings and @Cherylndesigns ,You ladies think that your Chuck's are stubborn, you should meet my FIL!! Anyway not much else happening here today.

@faerywings - Oh I am so sorry to hear that your Dad has Cancer!! I hope that they are able to get it under control and yikes not a great way to find out that he has kidney issues too!! Sorry that your parents were in bickering mode when you got there. What a sweetheart of a brother you have!! Hope everyone enjoyed the pizza! Yes a good way to end the day being just the 4 of you sitting around the table! Sorry that your Gary is not up to doing a hike with you today, I would go with you if you lived closer LOL.

@LSlycord - Yup sounds like the healthcare in Canada!! We really have to raise a stink to get what we need too! I am glad that they will do the TAVR, but sad that you had to go through all that to get it done!

@bcgal00 - Woo Hoo lucky you, in Greece tomorrow!! Enjoy my friend!! I can't believe that you will back in a week already!! Then you will be busy getting ready to move :eek2:.

@Cherylndesigns - Hope that your Chuck listens to reason! Too funny that Daisy thought you should be up at 8:30, hope she is a good guard dog!

@vickyday - Hope you are not in any pain with your broken hand, it must be very frustrating doing everything with just one working hand. Sending lots of healing vibes your way!!

Well I am ready for my second cup of coffee and then I better get busy with my day! Hope you all have a fabulous :friday:

Morning all. A bit late getting in here to post. I was busy getting my Color Play LOs posted around digi-world and the new Connection Keeping LO. It is a bit of a sad day that my niece is not here but a happy day that they found a specialist in suspension for their trailer that could fit them today. Hope they can get it repaired quickly so they can be heading to the east coast without too much of a delay. No, they won't be coming back through here. They work in North/South Dakota/Montana in the spring-fall and in North Carolina in the winter. That is why they have a truck-trailer-car rig.

@faerywings Sad to hear that your Dad has bladder cancer and a shame to discover he also has kidney disease that you didn't know about. My DH had bladder cancer and had the internal chemo treatment. Sending healing thoughts for him... and calming thoughts for you as you help the parents deal with treatment for it.

@Cherylndesigns You sure have your hands full with Chuck not wanting to do what he needs to do to improve and come home. LOL over the dog going into "guard mode" with you today.

@bcgal00 Sorry there was bad weather so you didn't get to do some of the excursions - hope it clears up for the rest of the cruise.

@taxed4ever Good thing you remembered (at the last moment) that the blinds guy was coming. They sounds like it is a wise investment. What a great Christmas present for each other.

@vickyday Hope you are taking it easy. Had to LOL over the photo of you on the floor... you are a true scrapper to think about having a photo taken at that time! I enjoyed reading your blog about the accident.

Coffee cup is empty and I need to get dressed. CYL

I'm sorry that you are sad, Kay. I would be too - we get to excited to see family and then when they can't make it, it is sad. I'm sending you extra hugs today, my friend. :hug3::hug4:

Yes, Chuck is getting sassy - he's used to calling the shots not having them called on him. He had hundreds of people reporting to him during his career and has always been in control. I sent him a "gentle reminder text" today and got "the middle finger". I sent him back lots of hearts. He HAS to get his act together or he'll be there longer than he wants to be. He wanted some money today - I asked him what he thought he needed money for. Of course, I relented and took him some - he wanted twice the amount he had originally asked for AND his credit card. Oh my good grief. :banghead::banghead:

Thanks, Trudy. He's a hardheaded stubborn man and is used to being "large and in charge". This is SO hard for him and I just hate to see him having to go through this. Yes, my Daisy is really taking his being gone hard - she won't let me out of her sight. If I move from my desk to the bed, she moves too. I don't know why she thought we had to get up at 8:30 this morning. She's being very weird.

The blinds sound really nice! I picture them being the kind I see in some restaurants....A see-through meshy looking fabric. Is that correct? Do they come in different colors than black? Black ones are all I've ever seen in the restaurant.
My hand doesn't really hurt unless I bump it or try to use it the wrong way. I haven't had to take much Tylenol for it. My back gives me more fits than anything. But I think it must be the muscles, not the fracture, causing me grief because I'm not having problems sitting, just moving.

What brings your niece to NC during the winter? I'm sure the weather is part of the reason. I love that our winters are not harsh! If it snows today it's usually gone by tomorrow.
I have been taking it easy. Yes, my DH just laughs at me when I ask for pictures sometimes. That's ok. I'm glad you enjoyed reading my blog account of the ordeal. I started that blog many years ago as a way to record my life story for my kids. DH's cancer got in the way and after he passed I lost my mojo. But a new life with a new husband gave me some incentive to write again. But I'm still not very regular with it.

But a new life with a new husband gave me some incentive to write again. But I'm still not very regular with it.
