How about you, everything go well with your day?

There were a few wonky moments but nothing totally out of hand. The funniest part was about the apple pie. I had bought two frozen pies this year, one was an accidentally vegan Marie Callender's Apple Crumb Pie, the other pumpkin. The other day, my brother sent me a picture of a vegan apple pie from Wegmans that he was sending up here with my mom. Cool! I opted to cook the pumpkin pie and leave the apple for another day. Then I started to panic that I wasn't going to have enough dessert. (My goodness, looking back at that moment is insanity! You see why in another sentence or two.) I had a pack of Apple Crisp topping in the pantry and apple slices in the freezer. Literally about 10 minutes before everyone started arriving, I'm making up an apple crisp.

My mom arrives and hands me the vegan pie. The way my brother cropped the photo in the shopping cart looked like a full-size pie. But it wasn't - it was only big enough for one person. It looked beautiful, but not going to feed 14 people. And at least I have the apple crisp in the oven. But as we were comparing the photo to the IRL pie, Caitlyn noticed there was a dot of mold on the crust. Toss that in the garbage and now Tom has no dessert. I think he would have been ok but Caitlyn was disappointed for him. We took the other pie out of the freezer, attempted to coordinate the different oven temps and times with everything else that was getting cooked/reheated, while making sure that the breakers don't flip with that many outlets being used at once. (That is honestly one of the hardest things about Thanksgiving IMHO). Now we have 2 pies and apple crisp, and vegan whipped cream. Whew.

Then Sam's family arrives.
And yes, I should have known better.

There was not an inch of counter space left anywhere in my house. Sam made two huge appetizer platters, a Costco pumpkin pie, and a homemade peanut butter cheesecake. Her sister Amy made a ginormous turkey, stuffing, mac and cheese, and stuffed mushrooms, and pumpkin bread. Her grandma brought broccoli soufflé. Plus I made two stuffings, 6 lbs of mashed potatoes, fake turkey, corn, gravy, cheese, crackers, olives. My mom also brought her stuffing. (yes, 4 kinds of stuffing!)
Soooo much food, such a messy kitchen, and so many good people together. ♥

Did I ever tell you how much I adore Sam? I think I did, but just in case (HAHAH!), I could not be happier that she and Scott are together.
This was silly too- I asked her something about Jaida and the vet. (She is the office manager at the vet that I have been going to since we moved here in 1995). She said something to the vet about Jaida being her boyfriend's family's dog. He asked her, "The Campbells?" "Chris and Gary Campbell?" Your boyfriend is their son?"
Meanwhile, she is like-- we have been together for 4 years, he is just figuring that out now??? It was kind of a big thing with her broken engagement to Ian and the subsequent relationship with Scott! LOL
Anyway, apparently, Gary and I have a fan club at the vet's office, they all seem to like us very much. Probably how we have kept the business afloat with all of our pets and their many expensive issues. ;)

Plans for today- as soon as I get the kitchen cleaned, I am done. That's it and that is all.

Did everyone have a great day? Hope so, and I also hope today is a wonderful one too!

And looooook!!! *points down*
In between the cooking and waiting yesterday, I had time to make a siggie! Finally! LOL
Next up: An avi: PRE-PARTY AVATAR CHALLENGE
The downside is that it will take me all month to recognize who is who!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone in the US!
Sounds like you had a wonderful day planned. I hope it was fantastic!

Good morning. I woke up at 3:30 and remembered that my ground pork was in the freezer. So I got up to take it out. And then I decided to get started on a few items. Got the eggs boiled and peeled for the deviled eggs.
3.30 is toooooo early to be awake! I cooked the pork roll for Gary's stuffing from frozen. Seems to work ok.

PS: Forgot that Amy also brought deviled eggs!

he kids are having a fit but I explained that when you get old, you start worrying about things. And I don't want to worry about the back steps and falling. We will see tomorrow how it turns out!
truth, my friend. 100% truth! Hope that you don't get too much snow but if you do, those mats make a difference.
But I want each of you to know that I will be thankful for you today as I count my Thanksgiving blessings.
Same to you!! ♥
We're going out for an early Thanksgiving dinner (lunch?) and if it's not too windy and cold maybe we'll get in a bike ride this afternoon. Otherwise, not much planned for the day.
That would feel weird to me, too. The first time we were home for T-day was during COVID. And I've been hosting ever since.
Hope you got in a bike ride, I miss being outside, so let me live vicariously through you!
And don't ask me why two perfectly capable, middle aged adults, with ample resources, don't just buy a new table. Keeping my mouth shut.
:nod1: Smart Mom move....

Yep, control freaks must have list and times to go with it so everyone can see.
Mine was taped to the range hood. And highlighted. Not that it helped with the pies! :lol23:

Honest question, what is the difference with potato? I thought potato would be okay for vegan eating. Is it that you dont use cream and butter? Or is it the potato itself?
Nope, potatoes are all good, I use Yukon Gold. I make them vegan with vegan butter and coconut/almond milk. You cannot taste the difference, esp if you add regular butter to them at the table.

Yes, Walmart was bonkers! Kids screaming because they weren't getting what they wanted, people about to run over you...the usual. ;)
You couldn't pay me to be at Walmart the day before Thanksgiving.
Actually, you probably could, but I would spend it all on wine for when I got back home. :drunk:

Love to you all!

Had a good day yesterday! There were the normal moments of "how can I get all of this food made in this little tiny kitchen" but we survived and the amount of food at my nieces was just unbelievable! Everyone brought something...sometimes MANY somethings! Everyone was stuffed and it still looked like we could have fed another 23 people!:grouphugyay:

And now, it feels like November has ended. Even though we still have two days it feels like we don't! Want to get the tree up and decorated. In Iowa, we traditionally buy a large, real tree. In Florida, we had a nice artificial tree. The plan was to go to the tree farm and get a real tree tomorrow. But with all of the snow coming between tonight and Sunday, it sounds like that may not happen. Plan B loading---pull out the artificial tree, rearrange the living room and tomorrow we will get the tree put up. Both kids will be here so that's what will happen with that! I think!

And then December---at least the first half---seems like it will definitely be Oscraps fun and games constantly! Speaking of, I need to go see if I should be posting something this morning. Then I'll be back for personals.

Did everyone have a great day? Hope so, and I also hope today is a wonderful one too!
Yesterday was a good day. I only had 2 extra people! Sunday's meal will be a total of 6 people, so nothing like your group! Sounds like it was a good day for you! Same for me as far as basically relaxing today. I did learn from yesterday's experience with the cooking bag that I need to go out today and find a bigger turkey pan. Yesterday's bag filled with juices and ended up outside of the pan! It was not fun trying to get the turkey out of the oven without dumping things! And I did have some turkey leakage into the nice, clean oven because as soon as I put the turkey into the oven, the bag touched the top element and so immediately I had a BIG hole in the top of the bag! The pies from COSTCO were delish!

I sent 3 containers each home with the guys who ate with us yesterday, so the only leftovers Mark insisted on having some of was the turkey. He loves leftover turkey salad! His turkey salad.....turkey and mayo! I need some crunch to mine!

Happy Day after Thanksgiving!
Glad the first meal is over with! Sunday's turkey won't go into the oven until after we get home from church, and Mark's daughter is bringing some of the food. So, I will put some more green beans in a crockpot tomorrow and on Sunday will let the rolls rise while the turkey is cooking and fix the Stove top stuffing! That's it! She is bringing the Mac and cheese and mashed potatoes. NO HOUSE CLEANING!!! Even though the dust is collecting again!

Today I am going to go to Walmart to get a bigger roasting pan as Sunday's turkey is bigger than yesterday's and the juice in the bag ended up hanging over and outside the pan! Glad the turkey was in a bag, at least! That would have been a smoky mess for the juices to end up in the oven.....my clean oven! I did end up with a little leakage because I burned a big hole in the top of the bag just as soon as I put the turkey in the oven because of the top element in the oven touching the bag! Other than that things went pretty smoothly, except the frozen yeast rolls rose quicker than was expected, so the rolls were cooked and already cold before the meal, which was OK. Probably best because I can eat my weight in warm yeast rolls! ;)

Frost on the grass today and is supposed to be much cooler than the high yesterday, which only got in the low 50's!

Have a wonderful Black Friday! Anyone crazy enough to go out shopping today? I think instead of going to Walmart, I will go to Dollar Tree for my bigger roasting pan! Walmart was crazy enough on Wednesday! I don't even want to think about the crazy it will be today!

Morning, all. I thought I had posted here yesterday... then realized it was over in the Thanksgiving thread. Geeze... I did get my December Avatar uploaded. Busy, busy, busy getting the November Color Play LOs uploaded today and tomorrow. Lots of good sales on the Black Friday, too! Then Monday is the start of the big Christmas Event!!! I don't remember having so many things happening all right together here at the O's.

Off to upload some of the Color Play LOs then decide what to have for breakfast... and maybe think about putting out a few Christmas decorations. BBL

@faerywings I'm so glad your day worked out good you were a little stressed. You had allot of food and allot of people. Once people start arriving things just fall into place. I bet no one left hungry. You pulled off the dessert problem...you are quite the problem solver.

It sounds like @vickyday had a good holiday too and one more to look forward too. LOL "no housecleaning" sadly that chore is never ending. I never use an oven bag but that must make clean up easy ---if it doesn't get holes in it that is. A friend told me about liners for crockpot...wow what a great thing I kept my potatoes warm yesterday plus leftovers are in the bag. I'm using one to make my turkey bone broth for turkey soup.

@LSlycord I'm glad your meal worked out...Getting an early start because of not being able to sleep after taking out the sausage...it sounds like me. Better early start than late.

I spoke to the kids and most of the grandchildren. Our holiday was good. I will never do it again unless I am 100%. I struggled to get everything done while hobbling around the kitchen then I was so sore. Hubby cooked the turkey on the grill stuffed with onions and some vermouth to add moisture. I made red garlic mashed potatoes, roasted carrot and stuffing from scratch with the broth I made from the neck/organs and then I made gravy from the pan drippings---it's so good.. Our friends brought other veggies and wine. No desserts so I bought out my homemade apple pie cordial which worked out perfectly. There were only 5 of us so it was easy. I gave them containers so they could make their own take out. There is still so much left over I will make turkey pot pie...I never made one before so I'm a little excited.

Back to using the Tens Machine for my knee pain...it's helping some. I have been overdoing it for 4 days now. My hip is very good but the knee is acting up from the PT. Yesterday was rough so today I am staying home and taking it easy.

I hope everyone had a good day with lots of good fun.

Hi everyone, remember me? The last month has been crazy busy with travel for family events and work. Looking forward to slowing down in December.

No Black Friday shopping here. It's Belles birthday today, and we're actually having Thanksgiving today due to our Son in laws work schedule. We'll head back home tomorrow. Looking forward to being home, getting the house decorated and finally find some scrapping time.

I saw the bags for the crockpot when I ordered the bags for the turkey from the store the other day! I HATE cleaning the crockpot, so those bags will be my next purchase, too! Sounds like you had a good day, but glad you are going to take it easy today!

When we go to my daughter's house every other year, the Thanksgiving dinner is always on Friday so the other relatives can travel. The day doesn't matter.....it's the get-together that I love! Safe travels home (or are you already home?)! Happy birthday to your daughter!

I love this! Sounds like a perfect day, even with the dessert switch up and scramble. Sounds perfect. I miss the days when everyone came to my house. But they've grown up and moved on, so now its small dinners. But still fun.
And looooook!!! *points down*
In between the cooking and waiting yesterday, I had time to make a siggie! Finally! LOL
Next up: An avi: PRE-PARTY AVATAR CHALLENGE
The downside is that it will take me all month to recognize who is who!
LOVE the new siggy and the avatar! And yes 100% agree, dont know who anyone is now that they're all decorated.

Okay, thank you. That's what I was thinking but then wondered if I was wrong. :heartpumppink: It can be confusing if you dont life the lifestyle. My daughter has had to go gluten free and I have no idea what to fix her anymore. I just dont think that way and its hard to wrap my mind around it, but I am learning. This old dog can learn new tricks.
And now, it feels like November has ended. Even though we still have two days it feels like we don't!
YES why does it feel like November is over just because thanksgiving happened :giggle4:
Have a wonderful Black Friday! Anyone crazy enough to go out shopping today? I
I am crazy, but NOT that crazy!!!! Never Black Friday shop. I hate the rudeness of people just to get a deal.
Hi everyone, remember me?
:giggle4::floorlaugh::giggle4: Who are you?????? JUST KIDDING!!!! Hopefully December will be slower for you and you can hang out a bit.

Yesterday was wonderful. Slow, low key, felt amazing enough to make turkey dinner. We ate at noon and had pie at 5. Wish I could say I only ate once but I over did it and ate at 7 and regretted it as I was still full. Was worth it but man I was stuffed. Today is finish cleaning kitchen. Ran dishwasher 3 times, did two batches of hand dishes and went to bed with another load of dishes needing to run (was already running so couldn't load them). Wont take much to finish cleaning. The one upside to not having a large gathering I could putter around and clean up.
Need to update avatar and then maybe scrap a bit. Off to feed the dogs. Have a wonderful day.

I went to Dollar Tree instead and found what I needed.

Dropping in for a quick minute- I forgot to add to the weirdness drama yesterday:
-Gary had to take the dishwasher apart to get it to drain. It was clogged even after I took the filter pieces apart. So while e was trying to cook, he had his tools on the floor next to me.
-The buttons on my oven- esp the timer-stopped working unless I pressed really firmly- that was fun when I was cooking the one stuffing and it wasn't crisping up and had to put it back in for 10 more minutes a bazillion times. (took 2 hours for the stuffing to cook. It is my MILs "recipe" -- as in -- cook some onions and celery. Add stale bread- mix in 1 or 2 eggs. Bake until browned on top. Literally no amounts/times of anything. LOL)
- I almost electrocuted myself. I was unplugging my hair dryer and my hands were damp. Instead of only grabbing the plastic plug, I must have slid my fingers forward and hit the metal part. That *hurt!!!* My fingertip burned and tingled until almost bedtime. Could have been worse though!
