I survived! I knew it, I sang it, I lived through it.
How about you, everything go well with your day?
There were a few wonky moments but nothing totally out of hand. The funniest part was about the apple pie. I had bought two frozen pies this year, one was an accidentally vegan Marie Callender's Apple Crumb Pie, the other pumpkin. The other day, my brother sent me a picture of a vegan apple pie from Wegmans that he was sending up here with my mom. Cool! I opted to cook the pumpkin pie and leave the apple for another day. Then I started to panic that I wasn't going to have enough dessert. (My goodness, looking back at that moment is insanity! You see why in another sentence or two.) I had a pack of Apple Crisp topping in the pantry and apple slices in the freezer. Literally about 10 minutes before everyone started arriving, I'm making up an apple crisp.
My mom arrives and hands me the vegan pie. The way my brother cropped the photo in the shopping cart looked like a full-size pie. But it wasn't - it was only big enough for one person. It looked beautiful, but not going to feed 14 people. And at least I have the apple crisp in the oven. But as we were comparing the photo to the IRL pie, Caitlyn noticed there was a dot of mold on the crust. Toss that in the garbage and now Tom has no dessert. I think he would have been ok but Caitlyn was disappointed for him. We took the other pie out of the freezer, attempted to coordinate the different oven temps and times with everything else that was getting cooked/reheated, while making sure that the breakers don't flip with that many outlets being used at once. (That is honestly one of the hardest things about Thanksgiving IMHO). Now we have 2 pies and apple crisp, and vegan whipped cream. Whew.
Then Sam's family arrives.
And yes, I should have known better.
There was not an inch of counter space left anywhere in my house. Sam made two huge appetizer platters, a Costco pumpkin pie, and a homemade peanut butter cheesecake. Her sister Amy made a ginormous turkey, stuffing, mac and cheese, and stuffed mushrooms, and pumpkin bread. Her grandma brought broccoli soufflé. Plus I made two stuffings, 6 lbs of mashed potatoes, fake turkey, corn, gravy, cheese, crackers, olives. My mom also brought her stuffing. (yes, 4 kinds of stuffing!)
Soooo much food, such a messy kitchen, and so many good people together. ♥
Did I ever tell you how much I adore Sam? I think I did, but just in case (HAHAH!), I could not be happier that she and Scott are together.
This was silly too- I asked her something about Jaida and the vet. (She is the office manager at the vet that I have been going to since we moved here in 1995). She said something to the vet about Jaida being her boyfriend's family's dog. He asked her, "The Campbells?" "Chris and Gary Campbell?" Your boyfriend is their son?"
Meanwhile, she is like-- we have been together for 4 years, he is just figuring that out now??? It was kind of a big thing with her broken engagement to Ian and the subsequent relationship with Scott! LOL
Anyway, apparently, Gary and I have a fan club at the vet's office, they all seem to like us very much. Probably how we have kept the business afloat with all of our pets and their many expensive issues.
Plans for today- as soon as I get the kitchen cleaned, I am done. That's it and that is all.
Did everyone have a great day? Hope so, and I also hope today is a wonderful one too!

Smart Mom move....

It can be confusing if you dont life the lifestyle. My daughter has had to go gluten free and I have no idea what to fix her anymore. I just dont think that way and its hard to wrap my mind around it, but I am learning. This old dog can learn new tricks.
