Happy Friday and a wonderful day from NJ!

Boy, oh boy- it was hot and humid yesterday. And I loved it, sweaty mess that I was and all. :p It looks like it will be more of the same today but it will be cloudy instead of sunny. I was going to steam clean but since we have 90% humidity it doesn't make sense to do that. The rugs will never dry.

Gary's birthday seemed nice. The kids didn't have classes yesterday so they surprised him with pancakes, eggs, and Tater Tots for breakfast. I made his shortbreads and banana bread and homemade fettuccine alfredo for dinner.

Scott had an interview for an unpaid internship at a local ecology center and he got that. He is bummed that it is unpaid but recognizes the opportunity to get his foot in the door and get more experience on his resume. He will be (eventually) taking kids on nature hikes which he is really excited about. He will start with grounds work, maintaining the hiking trails and that stuff. Now is the time for him to do it since he is living at home, doesn't have car payments etc. The greenhouse job at his college is only going to be 6 hours a week but again-- it is networking with the professors who will be resources for paid internships in the future which will be important is he does want to go to Grad School.

After I baked all morning, I decided to sweat some more and clear the leaves out off of the black-eyed Susans that are in front of the driveway. Poor things were buried and had the hedges hanging down over them too.

Since I am not going to steam clean, I think I am going to deep clean the bathrooms instead. If it gets rainy later on, I might end up trying some scrapping just for myself. Caitlyn sent me some pics of our Weird-Eared-Deer (AKA Whisky-- she looks like the reindeer, Vixen, from A Year Without a Santa Claus and always has her ears flipped inside out- so that on one of her nicknames) that I would love to work with.

May the 4th be with you :jedi: and Happy iNSD weekend too!

Nancy- too funny how happy this weather makes us! Especially after such a long, snowy winter. I love having the windows open even if any little noise makes J bark--
which reminds me!!! I can't believe that I didn't this up there ^^

I got to see my first bear yesterday and s/he was a big one! The dogs were barking and I looked out of the window, expecting it to be Hunter, the little terrier that walks on the street. No Hunter. I hear rustling in the woods on the side of the house and it was a big and adorable bear. Lumbering through the backyard and into the woods. Had to be between 400-500 lbs and no cubs/yearlings in sight so probably a male. So cute!!!

That is nuts about the commentators being scolded about the refs. You have to call it what it is if the refs make a bad call. Adds to your theory that the NHL wants to let the games drag on. Enjoy another warm day today, especially since we are going to cool down next week. 60*s for us.

Trudy- Brush fires are already happening here. My dad called at 9 pm last night to wish Gary happy birthday. No one ever calls that late and I grabbed the phone is a panic. He had just gotten in from a bad brush fire and god, he sounded exhausted. We were lucky that the fire from the plane crash was contained quickly. I hope that wildfire season is a big fat bust this year.
The hike sounds so lovely-- quick question- Scott wants new hiking boots for his birthday, do you know of a good brand to look for? TIA!
I can't wait to see the LO of the hike!!
And as always my PSA- check everywhere for ticks, hairline, armpits, groin, between your toes. Those buggers are insidious. We pulled on off of W yesterday even though she is on Tick preventative.

Felis- I am sorry that things aren't good for you right now. But you know that we are here if you ever need to talk. We have a saying here, maybe you have one too-- Burdens shared are burdens lightened. Until then, I am sending hugs to you~~~~

Jean- I am so sorry to hear of the passing of your DH's cousin. Will you be able to go to TX for any services? Lots of love being sent to you too.

Hugs to all of you!!!

good morning - yesterday was hot and it was great! Luther does end of panting of course but he loves being outside so that is great. We had a nice walk and now my dogwood is in bloom and my lilacs are almost blooming. Blue skies when I woke up but now it is cloudy and probably thunderstorms later in the afternoon. Luther is a daycare today so I have to do chores but oh no hockey is on at 10 am as the US plays Canada in the Worlds Championships. Lots of Devils players so it will be fun to watch and the Canadians are so impressive. Last night I made one of my favorite dinners - General Tso's Chicken. I made my own Chinese take out. It was so good and I now have a recipe I can follow if I want to make it again. It was spicy but not too spicy. I love it when there are not left overs. It was with bok choy and rice. Tonight is a pork roast with multicolored potatoes. I have never seen this type of potato before. They are pretty! Hockey last night was good as the games were exciting and the two series are tied at 2-2. Tonight two more games one early and of course one late.

Chris this weather really does make me happier. I too love having the windows open. Glad you had fun outside. and wow to see a bear go by. I find it crazy to think that is in NJ even though I know.

Trudy your hike sounds amazing! I love walking by flowing water. Love your hiking pages. Go Bruins.

Rae Jean and Felis - hoping your days get better, sending hugs.

Have a great day all!

Morning ladies... it is supposed to be :rain: today but no sign of it yet. Of course because I spent a good hour cleaning up the backyard of pinecones and broken branches, it is now very windy and I will have to do it all over again :mmph: Oh well it got me outside in the sunshine and it was so nice and warm! This morning I have already paid my bills and read all my email, so now I can concentrate on scrapping this morning. Yesterday I decided to pop into Winners to see what was new in there and found a really cute pair of capri pants and two sleeveless tops that I just love. Really great prices too, probably not as good as Rae gets on her shopping trips but I am happy with it! I keep searching for a nice little sundress to wear for our days in Paris this summer, but so far nothing that I like. We are heading up to Courtney on Sunday to watch Isaac and Sadie participate in a swim meet there. I tried to convince DH to go up on Saturday and then we could spend the night, but he has to get his haircut and there is lots of things he needs to get done in the yard etc. Its hard for him to fit everything into two days that he has off, sure wish he only worked a three day week sometimes. Oh well I will take what I can get. It will be fun to spend the day with the kids as they only have the swim meet for a few hours on Sunday. We will get up super early and return home after supper.

Chris - How exciting to see that big bear! I used to see them all the time when I was younger and living at home. We had a few apple trees in the backyard and the bears would always come and raid the trees. Our dog "Nipper" would usually go out and bark at them and they would eventually saunter off back into the woods. As for a suggestion for hiking boots for Scott, I have a great pair of waterproof ones made by Hi-Tech they are very comfortable and totally waterproof. My other hiking boots are the ones I use in the summer, lighter and cooler made by Merrell but they can be pretty pricey unless you find a good sale. I like them because they are cooler on my feet in the summer although they don't have the ankle support like my winter boots do. Hope your Dad is ok and not too worn out from the bush fire, what a guy going out to fight fire at his age! I really did check everywhere for ticks after my hike, I was in the tub and checking between my toes all through my hair and every crack and crevice LOL. I know those little buggers will go anywhere :becky: Happy Be-lated Birthday to your Gary! How nice that the kids gave him a great breakfast and that you baked all those yummy goodies too! I bet he was a happy guy! I hope that you have fun scrapping today, your pics of W sound cute! Enjoy the warmer temps even if it is very humid.

Nancy - How nice to see your Dogwood in bloom! The Dogwood flower is our National Flower of British Columbia, my sister has an amazing tree in her front yard, one of the loveliest ones I have ever seen. Here is a picture of it this year.

As usual your dinners sound so amazingly yummy :hungry: I have seen those multicolored potatoes at our grocery store here, they look so good! Sadly potatoes are one thing that I have given up eating. I hope that you enjoy the hockey tonight and GO BRUINS!! Lets hope that they show up for this one and the officiating is not too terrible tonight!

Felis - I hope that you will soon be feeling more like chatting again with all of us! Sending you lots of gentle hugs  and the wish for happier days ahead!

Jean - So sorry to hear that your DH's cousin passed on! Sending you gentle hugs also and hope that your grieving will not be to long!

:hello: Rae! Hope that you are having a nice morning and are not too bogged down with work. Enjoy your visit with B and I pray that the paperwork is being done for her release to another hospital!

Ok I need more coffee and I really need to make a grocery list, I think that I will head to the store this afternoon and get my groceries today instead of tomorrow. That way I can help DH with all he needs to get done in his one day at home. Have a great Friday ladies!

Good morning, ladies. Busy day ahead of me (ha ha what else is new LOL). Have to meet up with a fellow later this morning, he is going to buy my nikon 610 so the money from selling that and my savings from selling off other equipment I don't use anymore will give me enough to buy the new nikon d500 which is on sale. Coupling that with my 100-400 lens will extend the range out to 600 (b/c its a crop sensor camera). That will be easier to handhold when out on photo walks rather than my 200-500 is b/c that one is heavier. That is going to be a good combo for bird photography. I was talking to B last night about bird photography (I show her my pics on FB every time I visit and she gets so excited to see them). We talked about how we'll go out together for photo walks when she's better. I'm going to take a day off from the hospital tomorrow and head out first thing in the morning to the bird sanctuary. I really need some time to relax and enjoy myself. I will come home in the late afternoon and prune some bushes and spend some time with D. Since we go to the hospital so much, we don't get to hang out much together at home these days.

The UBC neuro team came to visit B at the hospital yesterday. They agree that she is a very unique case and will monitor how she does over the next month or two. They say that therapy can't really start until 6 mths b/c of all the brain damage but they did agree to send the brain trauma team to assess and maybe start a bit of therapy with her now which they say is unusual b/c its too soon but they are excited to see how she does. Depending on how she does over the next few months, it will help determine what facility might be best for her, probably UBC but they can't say for sure yet, it depends on how much of her neuro/motor skills/brain function recovers and the psych aspect of it. So glad though that things are starting to come together, albeit very slowly. So it looks like she will be hospitalized for at least another month or two before any kind of transfer.

Chris - happy belated birthday to G. Sounds like Scott is moving in the right direction for his career plans. How exciting for him. I haven't seen any bears yet but they should start coming soon.

Trudy - enjoy the family time this wkend and it looks like the weather should be fairly good after a bit of rain today, if it comes at all b/c it was overcast here this morning but the skies are lightening up now. Glad you had some good clothing shopping. I picked up some casual summer dresses recently and am looking forward to wearing them with flipflops when the heat comes. I hope you find some too.

Nancy - I've gotten purple potatoes before that were good. I also get the tricolor carrots too. D was looking at his plate suspiciously the other night, trying to figure out what I had put on his plate LOL. When I said they were carrots, he looked skeptical but then realized they tasted just like orange carrots :)

Jean - sorry for your loss. Hugs.

Felis - hugs to you too. Sorry to hear that life is so sucky right now. I hope some joy and optimism comes soon for you.

I've got to get to work for a few hrs before going out, so off I go. Have a great day, everyone.

The fog is lifting a bit. Last night I had to really stop and think to remember what I'd been working on before we found out. I've taken advantage of the sales here, so that will help get me scrapping, I hope.

Rae, when I just saw Relax as the 52 Inspirations challenge, I thought it was just perfect. Hope you are getting to practice it.

Thinking of all of you!
