Daily Ooos: Friday, December 5

The Loopy-O
CHEERY O
gooOd mOrning, O-Fam!
I know it is December and it is supposed to be cold, but heck no! Not this cold. 9°
NINE! DEGREES! Fahrenheit!!
Gahhhh!!!
:brrr: :cold::brrr:

And of course, because this week ended up so wonky, today is the day I have to leave the house to go Christmas shopping.
Things Faery Hates (in no particular order):
  • The cold
  • Snow
  • Shopping
  • Injustice (Gotta be real with my list LOL)
On the literal and figurative bright sides, the sun will make it look warmer than it is. Nor am I working today. Tomorrow should be in the 30s and I'll be stationed in one of the cabins. (Reminder: Make sure the hand warmers and heated vest batteries are charged!)
Speaking of work, I looked at my schedule for next Friday's field trip and had to text Lauren to make sure I was seeing things correctly. 26 kids, ages 4-12. That might go down a bit, usually a couple don't show up the day of. But hoo boy! My plans are going to need to be reworked to accommodate so many in those age ranges.
This one is the topic of beavers/Lodges/and Shelter Building so it's a good theme. But I have them building beaver dams and lodges with salt clay and twigs, no-bake cookies, lodge building relay races, and then shelter building in the woods.

That was part of my day yesterday. Gary and I finally got in touch with the surgeon and Jaida's X-rays are set for Tuesday, and surgery is scheduled for the following day. It is going to be a lot of driving back and forth but it is what it is. Poor J is going to be miserable and freaked out. She will have had more knee surgeries than the average human! It doesn't help that she is going to need at least two weeks of recovery, no stairs, etc. (One more note to self: Dig out the Kong Cone and the belly sling) I wonder if she will need more PT..... Please no. :praying2: Got no time for that!
Yet another kooky holiday month. Blergh!

I hope that everyone here is having a great day and is enjoying the party. The links for today:

DAY 5 - Show me | GAME -- this game is one of my favorites!

DAY 5 - WINTER FUN DOWNLOAD

:grouphugyay:

I needed uncomplicated,, too, when I was creating the challenge, Chris! However, the surprise was that Ona moved it to today instead of being Day 6 as originally planned. Agata couldn't do today. I'm glad mine was done. I'm heading to Ilene's so I'll have to catch up to commenting later today.
Sorry to hear about BFF's mom, but sounds like it is for the best! I was glad Tim only spent 6 hours in the Hospice facility! If I had known it was going to be so soon, I would never have moved him from the hospital. Oh well!
Because everything has been  in my brain, I realized that I never posted my LOs for the Winter Fun collab the Cheery Os got as a Pre-Release. One of the pages was perfect, all I needed to do was add the word "holiday," rearrange and resize a few elements and the photo. Voila! Challenge Accepted. Challenge Completed.
That must have been such a hard decision for you regarding Tim. You just never know :(

Good thoughts to Mark today for the Endoscopy.

@BrightEyes Nice that the roads were safe to travel on.
LOL-ing at you, Linda, and your DH about not working and not getting anything done.

@Terri M Layers are our best friends! I am already thinking about which layers I need for tomorrow :)
I have the same problem when doing ATCs-- it's like there isn't enough room to put everything I want in it.
I hope that you didn't get snow, but if you did, David decides to stay home if the roads aren't safe.

It was a great night. I am not near as sore as I expected to be today which is a nice surprise.

Sat in the sauna today. Felt great to warm through all the way and just relax. Today will be slow
You truly love your Wed cooking. ♥ Glad to hear you took breaks and didn;t lift anything. And good for you for asking to leave early!
Did you keep it slow yesterday? Any scrapping?

It is still freezing here. Literally. It's 16 degrees and sunny. Which isn't really that terrible
It IS terrible!!! :D
It has to be a shock to your system after being in FL for so many years.

Thank you all for the good thoughts for me and my BFF. She texted me to thank me again and sent me a picture we took at the end of the day.
She had a bag of her mom's clothes in her garage and threw that in her car before she left the funeral home. She started pulling out some of the clothes on the table in the funeral home's office. 1 pair of old ladies' elastic waist pants, another pair of capris. Old lady's ruffly blouse. Next out of the bag- a red lacy bra! Wha???? Turned out that her DD had thrown a few of her things to donate in the bag.
We were laughing about that as we were saying goodbye, so we set out an outfit on the ground- the blouse, the pants, and the red bra next to it!
:giggle4:

Hugs!!!

Good morning. I have 10 hours remaining on my audible book. Need to do some dusting. Need to put ornaments on the tree. Need to get some Christmas shopping done...and that definitely needs to happen during the daytime hours. Most of it will be money but I want to find something for my kids that they might like and that's not easy. Nieces and nephew get Venmo...which they like. But the little kids...well, they like toys!

And today I need to get caught up on some scrapping for challenges here at the O! There are so many gorgeous layouts right now. I get totally lost in there!

My list would be the opposite on the first item...I'd replace the cold with the heat...or maybe I would just put extreme temps! And then I would add "dirty" as an adjective for snow. But I'm with you on the last two items. LOL Love that you kept your list real!

Love that you are adding the links to each message today. Your brain has it going on in my scrambled world. Love to all of you....hope that your "to do" list shrinks today!:xmas7:

Quick in and out... it is used books/DVDs sale at the main library from 9 - 12. There is always a crowd so need to be in line at least 15 minutes before opening. After shopping there, I will head over to the library closer to my house to turn in books and DVDs, pick up an on-hold book plus a couple more books. I have both large handled bags ready (books/DVDs to return in 1 bag... and DVD inventory notebook in the other).
I am waiting for the house to warm up so I can shower and get dressed. It is only 24*F outside.... :brrr: Think it is time to pull out the long-johns and winter caps and gloves!!!

Will try to work on a LO or two after I get back from running around.

How to tell you live in the south: when you get 2.5" of snow ending mid-morning, the city decides to cancel the Christmas tree lighting that night. I'm sure @AK_Tracy is laughing at us.

Woke up to about 3" (we're a few miles closer to the mountains) but it was pretty, light, and fluffy, so easy to shovel. Pancakes for breakfast is my snow day tradition. All the schools are closed and the roads have been plowed, so David went into Habitat, which had a 2 hour delayed start. I'm home thinking about a roast chicken for dinner and trying to get my Christmas card list in order so I can mail them out today. I'll have to stop by the library to print my Christmas "letter" on the color printer.

Last night's meeting was a presentation by the county and their consultants about possible routes for a shared use trail west of Charlottesville, up to the Blue Ridge. It would give me a safe way to bike into the city, which is not the case at the moment. I was very impressed by the options they have come up with. Plus, since I helped (in a small way) get the federal grant to pay for the city I have a feeling of ownership about it. Unfortunately, since infrastructure takes forever to build, I doubt I will see it done, but I consider it part of my legacy to the next generation to at least help get it started.

I've been keeping up with challenges, and today's game looks like it won't take too long. It's been fun, but I may be running out of photos for new pictures. I suppose it will be OK to recycle some I've used in the past.

Sat in the sauna today. Felt great to warm through all the way and just relax. Today will be slow and easy maybe a grocery trip since I haven't done that all month LOL
It sounds like you're taking good care of yourself -- good for you.

Great list! Snow hasn't been so important to my list since we're retired. I'm still working on David, though; he's not yet accepted "We're retired, we don't have to shovel, just wait for it to melt!" as I have

Yes! Loved your page! Thank you!
I, too, forgot to post my Winter Fun page until a couple of days ago! Too much going on and things are running into each other!
I hope your "Beavers" are going to be there all day! Sounds like you have a lot to do, if not! 4-12 is a crazy age range! Do you split them up into groups? Are you going to have help? I sure hope so!
Praying Jaida doesn't need PT after her surgery this time!

We have a few "littles" yet that still like toys, but most are pre/teen and get $$. We don't get anything for the adult kids. However, when my kids get together in January we play the Dirty Santa game. All who want to participate bring a wrapped gift (including the kids) and everyone is given a number. When their number is called, they select a gift from the pile.....or steal one that someone has already opened. If they steal, the person they steal from gets to pick another gift or steal. The gift stolen can only be stolen 3 times. It is lots of laughs!

We had sleet last night, but the temp warmed up enough that we only have rain. The weatherman said most of the snow would be near the Virginia line and above N.Carolina. But, I do love getting pictures of the first snowfall! Other than that, you can keep it! ;)

I have recently re-scrapped some photos. I didn't used to do that. But I find that looking at some of those old favorites (and scrapping them) really brings back the memories! And I like that! Also love your take on the legacy for the next generation!

That game sounds like a really fun activity when everyone gets together. I may need to add that to my list. Still trying to figure out what the "new normal" looks like for celebrating Christmas.

Good Morning,
Spent the entire day with Ilene yesterday. We played Rummikub because I forgot to grab the bag of Qwirkle. I grabbed our lunch and my drink mugs and left without the biggest bag sitting on the table! DUH! That's OK. After we played 11 games of Rummikub, we ate the lunch I took.....turkey salad on slider buns and pringles chips.....and then worked on a new jigsaw puzzle Ilene had never opened that she got for Christmas last year. One of her granddaughters always gives her those for Christmas.

Today is a waiting game til we go for Mark's endoscopy appointment at 2:30!

In the meantime, I will work on my devotion for the next widows' meeting and scrap today's page. I need to post my first 4 days over on Anna Aspnes' FB page she has set up for the December daily challenge.

Have a great day!

Wow Friday already. Yesterday my surgeon said all is well so I can finish up the last 2 PT next week and be done...Yippeeee.
All the talk of cold makes me know we made the right decision to move here...It's 75* a little breezy but sunny. It will be a good day to clean up my kidney garden in the front yard.
We went over to the travel trailer to see how hard it would be for me to get in...not easy but I did it. I feel by the time we leave in May I should have an easier time.
Today we are smoking some ribs to take to a party tomorrow night. smoke all day then tomorrow right before we go we will put them on the grill to char them a little.
We got our last estimate for the AC so now we have to make another expensive decision, nowhere near as much fun as picking out the kitchen components.

@BrightEyes You amaze me with the amount of books you read every week.

@faerywings wow that group of kids will be challenge with varied ages but I am sure you will handle it just fine. I'm sorry for you BFF's loss but how nice you were able to have a few laughs together with the red bra.

@vickyday glad you are better so you could be with your friend.

Well off to go pack a few thing and then wrap some presents for the parties we have to go to.

Mark wants to get or make a smoker at some point! We love smoked meats!

Today is a waiting game til we go for Mark's endoscopy appointment at 2:30!
I hope that the appointment goes well. I hate those afternoon appointments!

Debby, it sounds like the surgeon gave you the best possible news! And you definitely got to the right place in Florida with all of the friends that the two of you have made. I'm sure that it will be much easier getting in and out of the trailer by May...after all, that's next year! :rotfl:

I would like to add a smoker to my list. My brother and nephew both do a lot of smoking meats. (My nephew also makes some really good creamed corn in the smoker.)

Sorry Chris, you're 17 degrees colder. We're sitting at 26°F and that's the coldest we've been all week.
Gary and I finally got in touch with the surgeon and Jaida's X-rays are set for Tuesday, and surgery is scheduled for the following day.
I'm sorry it will happen during a busy month but Jaida will feel better sooner and you wont have to stress about it coming next month. :heartpumppink:
You truly love your Wed cooking. ♥ Glad to hear you took breaks and didn;t lift anything. And good for you for asking to leave early!
Did you keep it slow yesterday? Any scrapping?
I do truly love Wed. Cooking. Its my dream. I always wanted to open a restaurant and this way is even better. Someone else pays the bills, I only have to cook 32 times a year and amazing people who want to be there to help me. No stress (well, just a little) and fun and everyones in a good mood. I did get some scrapping done yesterday. It was awesome. My coffee date was cancelled and I stayed home.
How to tell you live in the south: when you get 2.5" of snow ending mid-morning, the city decides to cancel the Christmas tree lighting that night. I'm sure @AK_Tracy is laughing at us.
Nope, not laughing. I just remember your heat and how you must laugh that I cant handle the heat. We all have our "normal". Glad it was fluffy snow, that's always easier to move and shovel.
Yesterday my surgeon said all is well so I can finish up the last 2 PT next week and be done...Yippeeee.
WOOT WOOT! Best news ever!!!!!!!

Today is a quiet day and not much happening. Maybe scrap a few photos who knows. Have a wonderful day.

Well, I am back home... Yep... came back with both bags FULL!!! Only had 2 paperback books and 5 DVDs. When they rang them up it they were all half-price ($5 total)!!! Took those out to the car and emptied that bag and came back in for another go round. Ended up with 3 3-disc series (Carol Burnett Favorites; ER - 4th Season; and Dark Winds - Season 3!!!! WOW... love Dark Winds! Plus I got 6 more DVDs!!! Debating if I want to go back tomorrow as they hold back stuff and put them out on Saturday...
Dropped off the 2nd bag of books at the closer library, picked up 3 books plus my on-hold book. And had them check off this week's reading times for the book challenge (we get a prize every week) and a free book at the end of the 8-week book challenge.
Dropped off some mail (Post Office and Library share 3 blocks of parking). I was going to buy some stamps but there was a lo-o-o-ng line so skipped that.
How do you keep your DVD inventory notebook.....by title? Does that mean you have a running list on your computer and you print out a new one after you update it?
Yes, my DVD inventory is alphabetical by title of Movie... plus have main stars names, and name of DVD if it has more than 1 movie or Season. I have it on an old laptop in Word... When I get more DVDs, I write them in pencil until I get around to up-dating the list. I put the date I update it on page 1. I keep the old copies just in case... I am beginning to highlight different ones based on where the DVD is located if it is not in the DVD bookcase. Most are in the bookcase in the office; Multi movies are in the office TV cabinet; Series movies are in the old VHS cabinet in the family room; and Special movies (Lord of the Rings, Band of Brothers, Outlander, etc) are in family room TV console. Makes it easier to locate them when I want to find them. I take the notebook with me when I go to a sale.

I have to do a bit of handyman work soon. Last night I went to turn off the bedside lamp and the knob wouldn't turn it off!!! So, I need to change out the socket on that lamp. I ended up just unplugging it. I may swap a lamp from the guest room into there until I can get a new socket for it.
