It's been a nice week of being lazy(ish), with no big plans and not much that had to be done. But now I am starting to go adrift and things that should be getting done are completely forgotten. I better get that To-Do list restarted or I am going to be in trouble ;)

I decided that I wasn't going to get my blood work done just yet. I don't know if the last few weeks of eating nothing but junk food will make much of a difference in my cholesterol but why risk an incorrect reading? Sure. I'll go with that excuse heh. But my plan is to get back to eating better and shoot for mid-January. If nothing else, that will give me the incentive to cut down on the cookies, etc.

Caitlyn and I had a chance to work on a new puzzle yesterday and after dinner, we started a Lego set that Scott got us. Dinner was Cait's tortilla soup and Mexican Street Corn on the side.
I brought a few of the ornament boxes down from the attic but there are 3-4 more up there. The only way I can get them put away is to take them all off the tree, put them on the table, then match them to the boxes. I used to find the box, then the ornament that was a mess. So I need to get the rest of the boxes this morning and then the tree goes away until next year. I think Gary and Scott are taking the outdoor lights down too. It's warm today so it makes sense.

My other "big" project is winding the yarn I got from MIL into balls. I think she regifted some of her old yarn (which is fine) but one of them is a total PITA. It's wool and the skeins are twisted up. It's drying out my hands as I detangle them. I have been working on it for 2 days and I don't have one skein undone yet. There has to be an easier way

So that's it!

Hugs!

@LSlycord congrats on the new sofa! ITA, white is not a good color for anything when you have kids and dogs.
Enjoy the warmer weather and fresh air. I wish it was that warm here... someday... in approx 6 months LOL
Good luck with your daily routine, I need to get back to mine too.

@BrightEyes I had done that before and holy cow, the alarm voices shared the **** out of me, talk about a heart attack! I bet you didn't need any caffeine to get the blood going after that jolt.
When I was in the attic getting the ornament boxes, I did look for some of the paperwork ones. Poked at them and then walked right past.;)

@vickyday were you able to work on the nativity yesterday? Sounds like it was a good day to be outside.
Have fun with DD today, I hope that everyone is feeling lots better.
That's too bad about a No on the red cabin. it would be cute but I guess Mark prefers something more "manly."

@bcgal00 Happy b-day to Remi!! And congrats on the camera, I can't imagine how excited you must be.

Oooh, I like the red stain idea for the cabin, he could do a brick red as a compromise. Tell him that Linda and I like that suggestion :p

@Cherylndesigns Hope you had a wonderful day!

Vicky- GMTA!!! Hahahahaha!!!

Good morning friends. I woke up at 5:30. and went back to bed. Started Wordle but it is hard and so I have put it away after two guesses...need my mind to be more awake. Syd and I started doing it each day of this break and I think it will continue after she goes back to school...just another little way to stay connected.

The sofa was delivered. Not really that excited about it but so glad that the old one was gone. Since I'm not sure how long we are staying here, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on it. (Along with the fact that I'm not working so we don't have a lot of money.) The big thing is that the dogs won't ruin it and people will have a place to sit when they visit. Did I tell you ladies that my cousin's daughter and her son are coming for a visit next Thursday? Her son is 4 so it will be fun. Syd will go back to school when the dorms open on Sunday but Ash and Cam will be here until the following Wednesday. Shaun starts classes on Wednesday and he is not at all enthused.

The really big news from yesterday is that we booked the cruise. Norwegian Cruise Lines on the Escape. It's 7 nights in the Eastern Caribbean with a stop in the Bahamas, in British Virgin Islands, US Virgin Islands, and Dominican Republic. Brian and I have been to the Bahamas many years ago but none of these other places...kids haven't been to any. So we are pretty excited. Syd and I spent the evening doing research. LOL

Shaun works today so I think that Syd and I will venture out to get haircuts. Then, I need to get my Cheery-O stuff done. Would like to be ahead of the game for a change. I'll be back after bit for personals.

Vicky- GMTA!!! Hahahahaha!!!
First - Clue me in on GMTA, LOL!
Second - HE RELENTED on the RED!!!! Except it has to be a stain instead of paint. The stain will have a sealant for protecting the wood and we won't have to worry about chipping and peeling paint! BUT, the white trim is a definite NO, lol! I'm OK with that, LOL, like I've got a choice anyway! ;) And there are going to be baten boards added on top of what is already there to seal the cracks, so it will be stained, too. Here is what he likes (the 2-tone showing the batten (I should've added a shadow but forgot to when I was photoshopping his photo, but it gives a good image):
26039-web-red-stain.jpg

I do like the brown trim. So, it's all good! And I know the tin roof looks blue, but it is actually gray, so it must be reflecting the sky.

I'll be heading out to my DD in a bit, after I post mine for the day.

I did work the nativity just a bit..................

Good Morning!

Quick in and out as I'm going to spend the day with my DD today! They have all been sick on their school break, unfortunately! But she said it was safe for me to come now! She expects me to help her make Rice Krispy Treats, but the times I have tried to make them they have ended up in a big ball of mass, LOL! We will be playing some Rummikub and Qwirkle, too! We always played games with the kids while they were growing up, so I think she misses doing that.

I got in a cooking frenzy last night! About 10 I put an Impossible Chocolate Pie together for Mark, made with Stevia. I won't eat it because of the Stevia AND the chocolate. Both would give me a huge headache! After that I made a Berry Cobbler for myself! Mark will have to eat very little of that as the sugar content is out of this world! I need to cut it back the next time I fix it! THEN I put together a breakfast casserole that sat in the fridge overnight and popped into the oven this morning so Mark could eat before he headed down to the woods!

Speaking of the woods.....Mark has relented to a RED cabin! However it is to be a red stain that will protect the wood.....instead of red paint that will chip and peel! I'm good with that! Also, no white trim. We decided we liked a brown trim instead (probably a dark stain). So here is a picture of the cabin he took that I doctored in PSE:

26039-web-red-stain.jpg

The stripe look is due to him putting batten boards on the cracks of the first layer of wood. And though the roof looks blue in this photo it is actually gray. I guess it is reflecting the sky in this picture. So, a win win for both of us! What do you think of this version?

Anyway, I'm going to close for now and get dressed and head to DD's for the day!

Hope you all have a great day!

Glad the sofa arrived!
YAY on the Cruise Booking!!! How exciting! I could make a living on cruising.....if I had the money, LOL! My first DH and I loved it. Mark has no desire! That's OK. We can't afford it anyway! And I'm happy just being home!

This! This is perfect! It hit me...apparently about the same time that it hit Mark...you absolutely don't want to have to deal with paint on that cabin. Mark would always be scraping and painting. (My dad was a painter, my brother is a painter...they would have said absolutely not! But then my brother would have come up with something like this stain to get a nice weathered red that belongs in the woods.) I can't wait to see this after it is done!

I finally managed to fall back asleep after my broken sleep earlier this morning (details in yesterday's thread). Slept in until 7:30 but still feeling like I could have used a couple more hours of sleep. May end up taking a nap sometime today. Woke up to another dusting of snow on rooftops and some driveways. Temp is above freezing so shouldn't have any more snow.

DD#3 and her son and grandson came down for a visit late yesterday afternoon. Grandson took my SUV to the carwash for me... which I really appreciated. I can't believe how tall the great-grandson is now... at 2 1/2 he is as tall as most 4 year-olds are. Of course, his dad is 6'4" and was tall like that, too.

@faerywings I had to LOL over the debate about which is easier when putting the ornaments away - to get each box and then take them off the tree.... or take them all off and put on a table and then find which box they go into. I always took the box to the tree and found the ones that go in it. Of course, there was always a few that I didn't find on the 1st go-round but found them later after most were taken down. And, I hear you about weight and holiday snacks!!! Yes, a few pounds snuck back on. Time to scale back on snacks and desserts!

@vickyday I was also thinking that a stain on the cabin is the way to go... the wood texture is so lovely it would be a shame to cover up. I like the idea of a red stain with brown batten boards around the windows. Thanks for photoshopping it and showing us what it might look like! Oh... that baby sock is so precious. And, wow... you are a fast knitter.

@LSlycord Out with the old and in with the new sofa!!! How delightful. Bet it gives a lift to the room and glad you found someone to take the old one away... Yes, white sofa and dogs and kids don't go together. Hooray, you found the cruise and got it booked for next Christmas. That will be something to look forward to all year. I also need to get a haircut but know the beauty parlors will be very busy right before New Year's Eve... guess it will have to wait until next week.

@Cherylndesigns - don't forget to charge the camera batteries then take lots of photos of the NYE party. I can just see you strutting around like "Victor" in the Tux! How very creative. I know you all will have a great time.

Time to get more coffee #coffee and get dressed.

Good morning ladies. Spent some time outdoors with the dogs. Remi enjoyed her birthday. She got extra treats (even more than their usual tons of daily goodies LOL) and even more love and cuddles than normal (if that is possible). I picked up my camera, had to make a second trip to the store b/c they forgot to give me one of the lens. I finally got everything, got the first battery loaded and took some test shots. I love my new gear. I watched a video of a wildlife photographer who walked through the steps to customize the camera. I got most of it done. I was able to set up the camera in a way I didn't know was possible.

Today I am supposed to go out for a photo walk with a friend but we are having a blizzard so unless it stops or slows considerably by mid day, I'll be staying home. Fingers crossed I can get out for a bit, I am itching to try out the long zoom. I tried out the other two lenses and they are lightweight and sharp.

I packed up most of the xmas decor and will put the tree away on Sunday or early in the week.

Tomorrow I will roast another turkey and use up the left over stuffing I froze (for D but not Jen and I). I've been keto for a few days now and already my stomach feels better and the reflux has mostly subsided. I keep trying other ways of eating but keto seems to be the way that works best for me. I will make another batch of rice krispie squares tomorrow for D. That will keep him happy for New Years snacking. I will make a keto friendly kind of dessert for Jen and I.

Remi is whining to go play in the snow. A blizzard is her favorite thing :)

@faerywings can you wear the surgical gloves to protect your hands when winding or does that make it too awkward to handle.

@LSlycord That is so exciting about the cruise. I need to renew my passport and they make us wait six months after a new one to be able to cruise so if we go anywhere it'll be in the fall.

@vickyday I'm glad for you that he changed his mind about the red. I think that is going to look great!

Remi is whining at me to go outside so I'd better get going. HAGD.

Good afternoon, all. Happy New Year's Eve Eve. Haha

I never got back in for personals - my day just got away from me and Casey came to clean and we went into town to run errands, yada, yada, yada.

Chris @faerywings I hear you about taking the tree down. Since we got ours up so late, we won't take it down until after NYD. I'm not in a hurry to do it. I love the ambiance at night, while we watch TV. We also have the lighted palm tree, so lights galore. Haha I had to laugh at you picking up stuffing and squeakers from the dog's toys.

Linda @LSlycord congrats on the new couch. Yes, it's nice to have one that stands up to dogs as well as people. I've had leather mostly for years - it seems to hold up the best.

Kay @BrightEyes I had to LOL over your comment about me strutting at the party. .I will be sure to get lots of pictures. Between me, Adrienne and Ava, there will be lots of pictures taken. The other kids can't go because it's a 21+ only affair. I'd love to take my Nikon DSLR, but I'm afraid it might get lost. There will be a lot of people there. All of us have new Iphones, so they take darned good pictures.

Vicky @vickyday how awesome that Mark agreed to the red stain! It's going to look like a Gingerbread House but don't tell Mark that. BWHAHA I LOVE the blue tin roof.

I'm going to go now and start taking care of my Cheeryo month end stuff. I made 2 new pocket pages for Lilach - she has a new templates and a template pack in the store. I posted the first one, but need to post my second one.

It sounds like you had a great day yesterday! Yes, if I get a tree up late, then I like to leave it up longer. But right now, I’m on a purging/organizing kick so the trees had to come down. Although I’d be tempted to leave your palm tree up year round.

HAGD.
Love how fast you are learning the new camera! We all have good passports after Europe but we shouldn’t need them for the cruise. We will take them anyway. Especially with the kids, I want to be able to provide proof of their citizenship!

I decided you were right. No one was going to have time for my hair today so it will just need to wait until next year.
