Good morning!
Best(ish) news of the day--- I slept until 6.30. Now- there was an hour and a half chunk of time I was awake overnight. But I slept solidly until 2.30 when the dogs woke me to go out. They also took one look at the rain and wind and came right back in. Then they proceeded to shove me and take over the entire bed and making it hard for me to fall back asleep. But I finally did. Whew!

It must have really rained buckets last night too, the sump pump has been running since I woke up. It's not raining ATM but we might get some later with some snow mixed in. Cait's work is closed today and Scott is off from work. He has plans later with a friend who is home for Christmas but hopefully, he won't be on the roads when the temps fall. I am not looking forward to that, 45* temperature drop between now and dinnertime. And we are nowhere near as bad with unseasonal temps/snow/winds as most of the country. I am sending lots of stay warm and safe vibes to everyone~~~

I am also feeling much more ready for Christmas. I was able to get a cute ornament for my SIL that matches the photo tray I had made for my brother.
So yes, everything is falling into place. And my house (downstairs at least) is clean!
Today I am wrapping up a few last things and then making up the cookie trays. Plus I am making homemade Italian bread for the bruschetta - I should probably do that early in case the power goes out. Thank goodness we got it fixed last week! That's making the dough in the bread machine and baking it in the oven, easy work. It needs to be slightly stale so today is a good day to do it.

I can see the wind is starting to kick up a bit, Gary should probably test the generator today. Just in case. It would really suck being without power when the temps drop to 0*

have a fantastic day! Thank you all so very, very much for putting up with my anxieties and stresses the past few weeks. (weeks?? Sure, we'll go with "weeks" ;) )

Good morning all! It's 60* here this morning and should hit a high of 63* in the next hour...then the temps will drop down to a low of 24* overnight. Get ready for oranges and orange juice to be the next item on the inflation meter! We are doing luminaries in the neighborhood tonight and it will be about 34* when we are out lining the driveway.

For so much of the country, this weather is frightening! Back home the weather is -8* and feels like -41*. That weather makes it too cold for anything! They were supposed to get a bunch of snow but that missed them...they have snow but not a bunch.

Syd and I are going to make a list of groceries needed for Christmas dinner. Then we are going to the store together. I told her not to sleep until noon today or we won't get it done. LOL She has been napping and going to bed early and getting up late. She said that she didn't understand it but I told her that I thought that she had just pushed herself so hard that first semester that it had taken a lot out of her! She did make the Dean's list (quite easily with a 3.8) so a very good start.

The new coffee pot is working like a charm...and I'm definitely enjoying not having that conversation this morning. I'm going to grab a cup and then I will be back. #coffee

@LSlycord Your appetizer night sounds fantastic with the kids. Good fun food with good fun people ♥
I used to make the meatballs in BBQ/jelly sauce! They were always an unexpected hit at parties.
Woohoo on the tire fix! Totally celebrate the little things- I was happy dancing that one of Gary's Rxs was $0 yesterday.
Bwuhahahaha!!! Gary is the same way, won't leave the house if he isn't showered, but for coffee, he would. I hope he was able to get a coffee pot. This is not the day to not have caffeine. As if *any* day is a day to not have caffeine.

@BrightEyes I hope that the mountains keep blocking the worst of the winds. All of the weather maps are bonkers with temps/wind chills/wind speeds. I bet I am going to be well-layered up the next few days.
I have always loved the pages you make for DH. You can tell how heartfelt they are just by looking at them.

@vickyday I always forget about the gift section in that pharmacy which is silly b/c they have such cute things. I have bought a bunch of last-minute gifts from them. I ordered a glass tray from Walgreens with a photo of my nephew dragging their Christmas tree on a sled. I picked out a wooden ornament with a red pickup and a tree in the back so they go together really well. It was also half of the price of the one I had ordered from Etsy. A small victory over the budget :D
How is the weather? Stay warm!

@tanteva It's hard when kids your own kid's age die. Even more when you knew them, so much tied into the paths not taken or how things could have been. Hugs~~
Hilma and Sven are the cutest couple and the LO is fun and fabulous!

@Cherylndesigns Has the weather calmed down you at all? I hope it is moving out, at least the worst of the winds.
I was never a good sleeper, not as a kid, not as an adult. When I was in college, the Education School thought it was appropriate for all teaching courses to be held at 8 am. Ugh. So I was always on campus before 8. Then working, all of my teaching jobs started at either 6.45 am or at the latest 8 am-- but that one I was almost an hour away form so I had to leave here at 7. I don't think my body clock was ever able to stay up late/sleep late

Eva-- so sorry to hear about your best friend's father, so much loss for one family :(

@faerywings yay on the ornament find for your SIL. Sounds perfect! I'm sorry that you are having the cold to endure! I've been thinking about making hoagie sandwich rolls from scratch. I need to add that to my list of things to try. And a prescription cost of $0. WooHoo! That is a happy dance price for sure.

@tanteva love your cooking, cooking, cooking! Hoping that it brightens your spirits! Your friend's family is really going to have a rough Christmas with both of those deaths. ((hugs)) from Florida.

@BrightEyes I'm glad that you can just stay in for awhile and I'm anxious to see your tributes to DH. Your pages are always beautiful and those are so packed with emotion. We did have the battery coffee pot in our hurricane preparedness kit but the 5 minute drive to Publix was easier. I told Brian that I might get us a back up coffee maker because I'm sure we will outlive this one.

@vickyday hope that you were able to get your grocery shopping finished! Eleven days with Mark home...that will be quite a change for you. Do you have any family Christmas celebrations that you attend? Or will it be quiet in that respect? I'm sure that you will be spending some time with the widow ladies over the next 11 days.

@Cherylndesigns I love your nighttime routine! I can usually fall asleep right away but I'm often awake in the middle of the night. In the olden days, I'd get up and log on to work or do something on the computer. Now the bedroom is upstairs and the computer is downstairs and I don't have the gumption (another old word...pretty sure my kids don't have any idea what gumption is) to go downstairs and then go back to bed. Another reason that our next house will have one level living!

@bcgal00 have loved your dog photos on Facebook.

Morning, gals... had one of those hot/cold/hot/cold nights. Covers on then off... etc. Woke up, then tossed and turned most of the night. Had the temp set at 65* inside which is normal so not sure what made it different than the night before when I slept all night wearing my sweats. Even my nylon nightgown was too hot at times last night. Yes, Chris.... I am so glad the frigid temps didn't hit us as bad as it is doing elsewhere. It is 18* now but should get into the 40's today. DD#2 in MO lost power for a few hours with temp at -5* last evening. Thanks heavens the line men got it restored fairly quickly.

Not sure why but I got a bug about cleaning up the SUV yesterday afternoon. The sun came out and no wind so opened the garage door so I could lift open the rear door of the SUV. I vacuumed floors, seats, and all the storage areas including those in the floorboards. And found a couple more things to remove from it... First Aid kit, jumper cables, etc. Then cleaned all the windows, dash and seats. Just need to take it to the carwash and it is all ready to be looked at for a trade-in. Suppose to have rain or maybe snow next Wed-Thurs, so will wait until after then to get it washed. Glad I am partly ambidextrous so did most of the vacuuming and window cleaning with the left hand.

Ah, you gals brought a tear to my eyes... Yes, the pages I make for DH's memory album - especially the year in review and anniversary of his death ones - are very special to me. And they help me see that I have come a long way.

Linda, I have a 4 cup coffee maker in the pantry but it doesn't seem to make as good a coffee as my large 12-cup one does. Don't blame you for thinking about getting a back-up one - with 4 of you there drinking coffee I am sure yours gets used a lot!! Mine usually last about 2 years.

And speaking of coffee... my cup is empty. #coffee

I'm actually done with the things I can prepare today. There rest will be done tomorrow in time for Christmas dinner.

I'm gonna need to make dinner for today though. It's so weird - why eat today when Christmas dinner is tomorrow, right? LOL

I'm feeling better today - No pain - guess it's easier to be happy then.

Urban quits work in 30 minutes, and if he's lucky he'll catch the 5.12 bus, but more likely it will be the 5.42 one. He doesn't work anymore this year. At least not at the library, I'm sure he'll be working on his book LOL I'm working one more day, Dec 30th, but that's no problem. I mean, I work one day a week, I get to relax all the time. Urban REALLY NEEDS some time off from work. He's been working so hard with preparing for some important changes at work (new computer program/system for the library catalogue + the merging of all the libraries in our county into one large library group). I mean, I have no "real" responsibilities, I only have to show up, smile and me nice to our guests.

Tonight I'm assume there will be Netflix, snacks, and some knitting. Or maybe we'll watch a DVD. We were talking about both Die Hard, Lethal Weapon and Long Kiss Goodnight. Nothing like a proper action movie to get you into the Christmas spirit. LOL

I'll probably jump in from time to time all weekend, but just in case:

Good Morning!
WOW! It is cold and very windy and getting colder by the hour! 26*F at present time. Power outages galore from the wind knocking trees down after all of the rain we've had!

Not much planned for the day. DH is getting ready to go to the woods to check out the wind damage. He is worried about some of the trees around the cabin. I sure would hate for some of them to come down on it after all of the hard work he has put into it! Mark is dressing in his freeze-out bike clothes to protect himself from the wind!

I need to round up some kitchen fairies today, for sure! I did some cooking and messing in the kitchen after grocery shopping yesterday and fixed breakfast for Mark this morning so the sink is full! I will get busy in there after I finish up here. I'll turn up my audiobook and get it done without any pain, LOL! @LSlycord - put this one on your list......."The Other Bennet Sister" by Janice Hadlow. 18 hours! I'm halfway through. I think I might know how it is going to end, but we shall see!

I found a gnome pattern (@tanteva ) that I want to make the girl for the baby girl that will be born in May (Ilene's great grand). These have legs and are considered shelf sitters. I'm anxious to get started on it, LOL! I will work on it as I work bit by bit on the blanket.

OK, I guess that is it for me.

Have a great day! Stay warm!

YUP! Sounds like your weather is about the same as ours! Prayers your power doesn't go out! The only part I like about the wind is listening to my wind chimes hanging out on the deck! Our sump pump has been working OT also! I think the rain is finally done, however! Now the ice is here for the wet ground!

Well, the groceries I got won't last the whole 11 days, but at least through the weekend! It depends on how much time Mark spends in the house and the weather will be a big factor in that! The more time he spends indoors, the more he eats! I think out of boredom!

We normally host Christmas here in NC. But my youngest son never is able to make it since he works for Walmart. So this year we let him pick the date. We are not gathering until the middle of January. That is fine with me. Mark's kids, even though most of them live near him, you don't see unless there is food! Except for his youngest daughter. We see her way more than the other 3. His son lives at Myrtle Beach and rarely ever makes an effort to come and see his dad. He will come and hang out with his party buddies from school days, but not even let his dad know he is in town. Sad, really. He's mad because his dad didn't pay for his wedding! Whatever! The other 2 kids are really his step-children. Even though he basically raised them, they only come around when they need something.

Yeah, I will definitely be spending some time with my friends over the next 11 days! But Mark is good with that! He says, "you know I will be in the woods a lot, and I have no problem with you spending the day with your friends!" He has actually said he wished I would spend more time with them rather than stay cooped up here in the house. But I'm good with cooping, LOL!

Good morning from the Deep Freeze - it's currently 8 degrees! Only got down to zero last night, but good news - it's moving out soon and by next week into the 60's. It's supposed to be 27 tomorrow 34 on Christmas day, then start warming back up. A couple more days of this - we can do it. Our furnace is working OT and seems to be blowing cooler air - Chuck just switched it to the emergency setting. I was looking at my Traveler's Notebook 2022 December Dailies and it was in the high 60's last December. I put the temp on each page. We had a water issue yesterday, but Roger fixed it. He had a heater on in the pump house and it had gotten turned off. We had water again in about 30 minutes. Our well is usually what we have issues with.

Chris @faerywings glad you have things humming along - well, maybe not humming, but moving in the right direction. Hopefully, this storm will be out of steam by the time it reaches you. From the look of the weather map, it swept right down on this part of the country, from up north. WHOOSH!! Glad you found a replacement ornament.

Linda @LSlycord you're going to freeze tonight putting out the luminaries! Anything below 50 in Florida is frigid. I sure never had a problem turning on our furnace. It always set off the smoke alarms the first time, though - every time. We were always ready for that. Especially if we hadn't had it on much for two winters. Time to get the sweaters and boots out. The worst was when we used to vacation down there for two weeks at Christmas time. Twice, in all the years we did that, it was SO cold - it was downright miserable. I remember the time I wanted to drive instead of fly. Big mistake - there was one of these crazy storms just like this one and we sat on 95 in bumper-to-bumper traffic sliding back and forth and praying we wouldn't run out of gas. Finally, Chuck got the map out (yes, remember those? It's like gumption LOL) and found side county roads and got us all the way down to S. Fl. He refused to sit in that awful traffic a minute longer. Ahhhhhh, the memories. It was so bad that year, that it was snowng in northern Florida.

Eva @tanteva - have fun cooking and settling in for your Christmas celebrations and eating that delicious food. I passed along your message to Sam and he concurred with a "big yawn". LOL

Kay @BrightEyes hope your weather continues to be sheltered - sounds like you really got your SUV sparkling. You can come clean mine next. Haha

Vicky @vickyday hope everything's ok at the cabin.

I'm going to get busy now - the girls and I are going to Muskogee to Hobby Lobby - yes, we're crazy to go out in this lovely weather. At least Chuck thinks we are.

Happy Friday everybody.

Good morning ladies. The daily hunt online for new and old sony cameras is over. I spent a lot of time researching, looking for deals, etc and today the search is over. I sold my d500 yesterday. I decided to get new rather than old and hoped that hubs wouldn't have a heart attack when I told him what I was spending :) I ordered the sony a7r iva and sony 200-600 lens. Each was on sale so saved a bit of money, basically it recouped what I spent on the warrantees for both. So I am covered for 3 years for repair and replacement. I ordered in store pickup so I'm hoping it is ready next week, it should be. I'm so excited. There will be a huge learning curve but it'll be fun. Luckily one of the big youtube wildlife photogs has a video all about how to set the camera up for wildlife. The only other lens I will get soon will be a cheapie 50 mm macro. For anything else I can use my other sony. This better be my forever gear b/c D will kill me if I ever spend that much again. I'm excited to get out hopefully next week for some wildlife photo walks. It's going to warm up a bit too so it will be more comfortable to get outdoors. So...that is done! Just have to wait for the email confirmation for pickup.

Jen is a bit frazzled and stressed. She is going to spend xmas eve by herself, wanting to come home from work and just crawl into bed, watch a few shows and then go to bed. We'll let her sleep until 10:30 xmas morning, then open gifts and she'll go to work around noon. I'll make dinner and she'll come home around 6:30 to eat. Then we'll have a hot tub and a drink, maybe she'll join us. She really just wants this year to be over and hopefully next year is easier.

Today I wrap, I ended up spending so much time on camera stuff that I never got around to it, so today for sure. Tomorrow I will make rice krispie squares. D isn't going to make his jam-jam cookies this year. We went through Walmart yesterday and he got more than enough chocolate and desserts to keep him happy all through the holiday. We picked up our online order for appies, so that's dinner tomorrow night. The only thing I didn't get was italian sausage to add to the stuffing but if I don't make it back to the store that's ok, we'll survive without it. We have gotten snow the last few days so not sure if I want to go out driving anywhere.

@faerywings I told you everything would work out for Xmas :) I bet your bruschetta is going to be so good.

@LSlycord That's wonderful about S making the deans list. Enjoy the new coffee pot. We drink so much coffee we make a pot, put it in the stainless carafe that keeps it warm forever, and then make another pot, that keeps us going for most of the morning (mostly me LOL).

@vickyday Spending some time with friends over the holiday will be nice. Enjoy. I hope to get out with a friend on a photo walk while she's off work.

I'm getting more coffee, getting dressed and getting on with my day. HAGD everyone.

A-OK at the cabin, so far!#kiss3

Great to hear, Vicky!! The rental properties down in the lower level of the property all had broken water pipes. There are 3 of them and thankfully, we were able to get a plumber out here today - can you believe that??? I didn't know about this when I posted. It's been busy around here in this cold weather. Glad to hear that everything's okay at your cabin. Ava's the property manager so she's been a busy bee today.
