*note to self: Check Drs appts the last week of a month so you aren't shocked when they call to confirm your appt on Monday*
It was 5 pm and my ankle Dr's office called to remind me that I have an appt on Monday morning. I am still doing phone appts whenever possible and the past several months I have called to switch from in-person to phone a few days in advance. Since time and calendars have no meaning anymore, well.. whoops. I was kinda surprised about it.

I was in a decent mood yesterday and am hoping that it will stick around. I am not sure what I did. House stuff, yard stuff. So many of the little toads were hopping around. I wanted to be very careful when I had the clippers out, I didn't want to stab them by accident. And GUESS WHAT?????????????????
We saw a bear walking up the street!! Woo hoo!!! We had a really large one on our patio in the middle of the night a couple of weeks ago but this one was smaller. Yay!!! So happy that they are around. My friend across the street got a good video of it on her phone.
My mom's cardiologist appt was good, her heart is holding up fine. Her kidneys were very, very bad when she was in the hospital and he told her to not wait that long ever again (sheesh, who else was telling her that!).

Today is the FP in the morning. I asked for paper goods mostly this time around. I am "nervous" about the fall and I don't want to go through the panic of TP and tissues when/if we get a resurgence.
The weather looks wonderful too. I wish I was capable of sitting outside with a book to relax but alas, I am not. But I enjoy the yard work so it is all good.

Gratitudes:
-bears! :)
-lower humidity
-blue skies

Trudy- That is too bad that the weather was hot for your visit, but very nice that you had a good visit. Great idea to go to the store yesterday rather than the weekend. What is the holiday weekend for- it is your Labor Day? NJs cases are starting to rise a bit and the governor, who has really been on top of it, has been sounding the alarm about house parties. I hope that everyone on the Island stays smart.

Nancy- Whew, finally some good news from AZ about cases going down. 118*...Yikes-- you know I don't mind the heat but I think that is much to hot for me, dry heat or not. ;) Ithought it was supposed to rain yesterday but the clouds burned off by 9 am and it was beautiful outside.
I hope that you enjoy the whole day of hockey today!
Caitlyn had to sign up for a virtual town hall for Ramapo's plan for fall semester. It isn't until Aug 7 which is not the best thing for a person with anxiety but hopefully they have a good plan. I appreciate the hard and confusing work that the professors and admins are doing-- including your DH

Jean- "More structured days?" What is that concept you are talking about? :pound: I told Cait that I feel like Dail's melting clocks most days.
I have all of my fingers crossed that MLB is able to continue its season but ATM it isn't looking so good. I will pass along the hugs to Scott. He had to go in to the Ecology Center yesterday to train the new interns. Said it felt great to be out and about but it has to be hard knowing that it isn't going to be more than yesterday.
I don't mind grim books- Right now I am reading Shanghai Girls and there are some pretty grim parts in that. I will look at some of the reviews on GoodReads.

Cheryl- Be safe with the hurricane, I read on the news that the cone keeps shifting so hopefully by now you have a clearer idea when/where it will hit. I hope it passes by you.

hugs to al lof you!

Gray and humid today and a little rain has made it more so but cooler. Good day to make more apple nutty bread and maybe see if my studio is not too hot. I actually started a new drawing the other night, the first since March other than birthday cards I think. Lots of other things to do, but may let slide as usual.

Chris, that's just what I mean about structure. Last week with class I set an alarm each night and attended class, with breaks, from 10 am to 5 pm and had an evening activity at 7 pm. Then made dinner and ate with DH, then looked at class work and maybe read a tad. No melting clocks for a whole week! Yikes, how bittersweet for Scott training new interns! Tell Miss Anxiety that one of my classmates wrote that she thought the remote class allowed her to concentrate better as she had fewer distractions. Don't know what kind of cave she was living in though. They gave us a sign to print out and put up that said "Do Not Disturb" (gave a time when we'd be back) "I'm In Pittsburgh" and I did put it up, but I'm not in a separate room.

Cheryl, be safe and good luck with the hurricane!

good day - well the first hockey game is in the books and the NY Rangers lost to the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2. Now at 3pm I have the next game. Today is fun! Sorry had to step away. My oldest came by and took my DH to a game store (not the kind you play but the kind you eat) luckily they only bought venison. I am not eating it no matter what LOL. He brought me cheese and chicken empanadas. I got out for a walk while they were gone. It is less humid and will walk in the evening. My poor Luther loves duck necks but the store has not had any and now he is out. He is not happy when he does not get them after a walk. He is spoiled. My DH went to the store and got him turkey and chicken necks and a duck head. Gross. My oldest son then went to help youngest son put his grill together. Mostly its was my oldest but at least no fighting. They really are such different personalities. More hockey tonight. Watched both the NBC and the Sportsnet intros to today's game and they were really good and both were about society racism and also in hockey. They were both really good!

Chris glad you are doing so well. OMgosh how cool that you saw the bear walking down the street. Do your dogs go bonkers? I know that Luther would. I am hoping that this hurricane does not do much damage as it hits us next week. I know we need rain but I don't want it all at once. Good for Cait that they will have a zoom meeting prior to classes.

Jean we had cool weather for one day and it was grey and very humid. Glad your classes are done. So what is your impression of the baseball? I watched the Yankees vs Boston and it was good. I think what surprises me most is that you can see the players want to spit and hug and it takes real concentration not to do it. Glad you started to draw. I sure wish I could draw. Thank goodness for Photoshop for me.

Cheryl be safe as the hurricane comes your way!

Trudy have a great holiday weekend.

Good Sunday to you all! It is raining here and there is a decent-sized part of me that is relieved. I needed an incentive to stay inside. Using the clippers on the weeds and grass on the walkways has made my knuckles very swollen. That wouldn't stop me even though it *should.*

Yesterday was a nice day, FP was fine, the yardwork was fine. I saw lots of the teeny toads again. I finished up the scrap page I had started and am finally getting the settings on PS back to where they were before the computer strip-down. There are a few things that I need to figure out on ACDSee like how to change the background on the png files so you can see the ones that are white. Anyone know how to do that? It should be easy enough to google (I hope)

Not much happening here- I have to strip the bed, work some more on the food shopping list.
Scott and Leah will be back here for dinner- soooo you know what that means: what to cook???????? They celebrated their 8-years together anniversary yesterday.

I think that is about it. HAGD!!!!

Jean- gray and humid is exactly what we have here today. Were you able to get up to the studio? What is the subject of the new drawing?
That is funny about your signage! Was your DH good about that? I am hopeful(ish) that maybe, just maybe that September will make my brain revert to more of a structured response since I had that back-to-school mentality for myself almost my entire life as a stdent/teacher/parent. I need to make a protest sign-- No More Melting Clocks!

Nancy- I am so darn thrilled that you have hockey again. I really hope that the NHL continues to stay healthy. Are they excepecting to have a "real" season this year?
Blech- game store. I am with you--Gross. And that is about all my mind will think on that subject.
Yeah, it was nice to see the bear on the street. My dogs go bonkers over *everything* but we have always worried about them trying to after a bear.
Are we supposed to get remnants from the hurricane? I have had such a hard time looking more than a day in advance about everything that I rarely check the weather anymore. I will have to go peek...

Waving hi to everyone!

Morning everyone... I was MIA yesterday as DH and I enjoyed the day together doing odd jobs and having coffee on the deck. We decided to go on a nice shady hike in the afternoon and ended picking the Bing's Creek Hike. DH was not impressed that it was mostly up hill LOL. It was warm and he is not in great shape because of his knees. He said to me you are not even sweaty LOL. I told him that I hike a bit more than he does and he had better get his knees done because there will be lots of hikes to do when he actually retires! Guess he won't be retiring for some time LOL! We have decided to go on the Whale Watching tour on Thursday and we will be going to the local one with the smaller boat and even though we will have to wear survival suits it just is the better option for us. The other one is closer to sunset and then we would have to drive home in the dark over the Malahat. A nice drive during the day, but not so much fun at night! So I will get that booked today. Other than that not much happening here today. I really need to water out the back today, we haven't had rain in ages and everything is looking very, very thirsty!

Chris - Wow Scott and Leah have been together for 8 years!!! That is how long my Gary and I were together before he finally asked me to marry him LOL. He said he had to get to know me first. That should have been a good indication that he needed to plan and investigate everything!! Sure hope that you enjoy your rainy day today! Sometimes the heat and blazing sun can be too much, we are never happy with the weather are we?? How nice to see the bear wandering your neighbourhood. Hopefully it behaves and doesn't get relocated or worse! Our long weekend Holiday is celebrated on the first Monday of August and it's a public holiday in some provinces and territories. The civic holiday is not a statutory holiday although it's a day off for many employees across the country. ... The Civic Holiday is commonly referred to as the August long weekend. It's just a reason to have a break in the summer LOL.

Jean - Sure hope you are able to stay in your studio and get back to some beautiful art work! I have been doing some painting and a bit of card making too. Nice to just be alone in my craft room and create!

Nancy - Watching the hockey is so strange with no people in the stands and the piped in crowd noise! But hey hockey is playing again and that is a good thing! Hopefully everyone stays in their bubbles and remain healthy! I am with you too on the game meat! Yuck!! :puke: I can't stand that gamey taste!! Poor Luther not getting his special treat after his walks! Give him a big belly rub from me!

Ok I better hit the shower and strip the bed, then :washing: to do and I need to catch up a bit here today too! Have a great Sunday! It is Sunday?? Right??

Been MIA for a couple of days... got the laundry done :washing: - changed the sheets on my bed - and a few other chores. Was bummed... went to Sam's yesterday to get a new cross-body handbag but they were so TINY... wouldn't even be able to get my wallet in even the 'largest' one! And they didn't have the style of reading glasses that I wanted. So many people out so I didn't even try to go to the grocery store. Will see about going tomorrow or the next day.

Woke up at o'dark-thirty this AM to a thunder-boomer of a storm but was able to fall back to sleep. Not sure how much rain we got but had puddles on the patio. We are definitely in the 'monsoon season' - get some rain nearly every day or two right now. Yesterday we had a cell come through with 59 mph winds... wow... it was blowing like mad but only got about 1/2" of rain from it.

Need to take a look at the new challenges for August. Can't seem to get motivated right now.

More gray and wet today but still OK. Didn't accomplish much of anything yesterday but had one interesting event. After seeing the movie on the art/photography of Rosamond Wolff Purcell I requested two books on her work from the downtown library. Yesterday they were available at my library for pickup. I had to call to find out how to do it. Seniors can come during certain hours in and out the parking lot doors, but otherwise it's in the front or street entrance, pickup from the reserve shelves, no touch check out, then out the parking lot doors. DH dropped me off in front then waited in the parking lot so it was easy. I think maybe curbside can be arranged, but this worked. Last night we watched baseball (not our team, but they lost again...) and after saw the end of a hockey game. Pens lost in OT. I'll try to be more productive today but maybe more sports on TV too.

Nancy, I've never even tried game. DH had an aunt who would fix rabbit for him and her husband while she and I ate something else. And that was domestic not wild. Glad you can see all that hockey. I think it was six baseball games that were postponed yesterday and mostly not for weather, so things are not so good in that sport.

Chris, how are Scott & Leah old enough for an 8 year anniversary? And I love the scrap of your doggie in her boots! Hope you don't get bad weather from Isaias. DH was in fact very good about my time at class but I have my doubts about your protest sign and the melting clocks. I don't think the dogs will get the idea. But they are more into routine than we are I bet. Oh, and the drawing doesn't yet really have a subject, so we'll see. The lines are based on memory of drawing daffodils drooping back in the old days.

Trudy, bad knees make for really not fun hiking, so you're are really right about the need to get them done (if your MG ever retires!) The whale watching sounds exciting!

Wild weather for you, Kay. But good you got back to sleep. Good idea to wait on groceries.

Off to try to do something worthwhile!
