Happy Earth Day! Time to do one of my favorite activities-- hug a tree!
And I always have to pull out the photo of me doing just that:
love the earth.jpg
This is me in 2008. Good vibes :peace2:

I was happy being surrounded by trees almost all day yesterday, such a gorgeous day to be in the fresh air. To be sure, I was sneezing my head off and more than a little paranoid about ticks and poison ivy, but no matter. It was lovely! I needed it.
Gary and I took the dogs out for a hike, almost 2 miles and up to 700' elevation. Not bad for two middles aged people and two almost middle-aged- dogs. We took a new trail that went along a ridgeline and overlooks Greenwood Lake. We couldn't place in our heads exactly where we were so we had to drive past the landmarks on our way home. I would have taken pictures if I didn't have J pulling my arm out of the socket to the next area to smell. I am really glad that Gary has been wanting to get out of the house. His stomach was not in good shape but I joked that if he had to throw up, just go off the trail, and we'll bury it in some leaves. Then text Scott to tell him where *not* to step next time he is up there. But it worked out, his stomach was ok for the hike.
When we pulled into the parking lot, there was one of the Ranger trucks parked. We were hoping it was him but nope, a few minutes later, we saw it was an older man.
After we got home, I painted the handrail for my parents then headed out back and raked all of the leaves off of a few little garden areas along the side of the woods.
Arline, I kept your "leaves of three" tip in my head since I can see the vines are everywhere. Even being super careful, I raked up some of the roots and I bet that I am going to get new blisters today.
The forsythia that I transplanted two years ago is starting to really establish itself. One of the hostas came back, they are as stubborn as the deer that eat them every year haha! I am feeling all of that day's activities today. Not horribly stiff but my muscles are letting me know that they are annoyed with me.#angry2

Today is FP Day. It isn't supposed to rain until later so *fingers crossed that I can get home before it does*
No other plans today, maybe a good day to chill a bit?
Naaaaah! LOL

Wow @faerywings you were BUSY! I'm impressed with all of your activity. And I love that Gary is feeling like getting out! That is such good news!

I think you all know my story right now! Today is a drive to Gainesville to get some of Sydney's bigger items and bring home. Shaun was coming with us to help...but he has an econ extra credit class that he can go to at 12:30 and so I told him to just stay home. Most of the items aren't heavy...just clunky to move I think. Bunk trunk, baker's rack, microwave, decorations, clothes, pans, etc. Ugh...

I can only imagine the aped/gallows humor you all have.
I am trying to figure out what I meant -- aped is a typo, maybe "warped.* You never can tell with me.
Uh-huh-- I speak sarcasm all of the time, but when I am stressed, it gets way stronger. Like when I am angry and my "Jersey" gets stronger. I don't think I have a NJ accent, but when I am angry- everyone tells me that I do. I use the line, "I can laugh or cry but crying ruins my makeup." That was when I actually wore makeup, of course, but the sentiment stands.

@bcgal00 *waving madly at you and D* I am thrilled for you, all of the photos you are posting are fantastic, you look like you are really enjoying everything so much! The food looks delicious, the views look amazing. ♥ That sound like so much fun to have hooked up with some other people-- and to make plans to do it again.
How are Jen and the dogs all doing?

@vickyday One of my college roommates lived in Lancaster, PA and I loved going to her house on weekends. That area is gorgeous.. I am with you, I much prefer sightseeing and taking photos over shopping. Sorry to hear about the traffic, that sounds like it was awful. Did you bring knitting with you to keep yourself occupied? I can't wait to see the epics you took. I can't think of any Amish kits here, but Lynne Anzelc has loads of farm/farmhouse ones. Speaking Of Lynne, I *have* to get the new kit with all of the adorable little mice. I only need an excuse to grab it LOL
It also sounds like you are feeling much, much better, that's fantastic. Hope that Mark is better too

@Cherylndesigns :rotfl: at the pic of One Armed Wille. Men!! LOL. The gardens are lookin' good! Also laughing at you wishing you took before-before pics. ;)
I am so intrigued by the Susie Vines. I am going to look for them next time at I am the garden center. Are they annuals or perennials?

@taxed4ever Oh no! Get back to bed! We need you to get better. I'm glad that your Gary is home and taking care of you. Hugs!!

*snorts* Arline- I am trying to not chuckle at the photo-- It's not the photo that is funny but the tip. Not even that. The presentation is funny. And hoo-boy, I feel your pain and itching. I know it is bad if you are wishing that you got the injection, BTDT and it ain't fun. :(

@LSlycord have a safe trip and be careful lifting the heavy stuff!

Oh @Cherylndesigns it looks like you guys are doing some massive landscaping! I'm glad everyone is able to help. We need to do all new landscaping...the builder says it is landscaped...well not really! That will be a project!

@taxed4ever I am so sorry that you are having such a bad time with Covid. When I got it, I found that part of the time I'd feel really good and then I'd be really tired and sleep for hours. Get lots of rest and be gentle with yourself.

@Nonni F is the weather about right for getting the bikes out? I guess that applies to you too @vickyday.

@vickyday we had an Amish community in Iowa and I loved visiting over there. They were wonderful craftsmen and they were also great cooks. I'm not much of a shopper but I loved going there.

Ok got to go get ready to get on the road to Gainesville. I can't believe that her first year is done! Wow! Time goes fast! I think this is my last trip to Gainesville until next August. Which will be here before we know it. ;)

Have a good day all!

Good Morning ladies… Sigh, day 6 of Covid and still testing positive and still feeling crappy!! It must be starting to break up though as my nose has been running and I am going through a ton of tissues!! DH is doing the major grocery order today and he has a few other place to go so I thought I would tag along and just stay in the car, while he does his thing. So I am typing this on my iPad in the car. It is a rainy grey day here and will be all weekend so it’s not like I am missing getting any yard work done. I would love to get some scrapping done, but have a hard time concentrating long enough to do a page. I have tried working on my painting also, but it is the same I can’t sit there long enough and need to go and lie down again. Uggh!!

@faerywings - How nice to hear that you and your Gary and the Dogs are getting out into the fresh air and sunshine and getting that exercise!! I hope that your Gary continues to feel up to being outside a lot more! I bet it helps him feel better! Love that photo of you hugging the tree, you look so cute! You are keeping busy these days! I am looking forward to having the energy to do the same soon!

@LSlycord - That is too bad that Shaun was not able to help you move those bigger items, hope your trip to Gainesville goes well and the traffic is not bad! When will you have to be out of your house? Guess I need to go back a few days and catch up with everything and everyone!

@Cherylndesigns - Like I said your crew can come here and start working on our back yard anytime now LOL. I have so many backyard projects that I want to tackle, but DH keeps putting them off and finds other things to do instead.

@vickyday - Your trip to Amish Country sounded like fun! When we lived in Saskatchewan we had Hutterite Colonies, but no Amish. They sound very similar though.

Ok DH is done with groceries so off we go again. Have a good day everyone!

Good afternoon all.

I answered Trudy @taxed4ever first - started at the bottom.

Chris @faerywings what a wonderful/busy day you had. I had to laugh at Gary thinking he was going to throw up and the dog pulling your arms out of the sockets. What a fun, fun time you, Gary and the dogs must have had on the trails. I knew you'd get a kick out of One-Armed Willie. The black eyed Susans are perennials - they're part of the mum family. They must be a new variety, because I've never seen the vining type. They were marked $45 each, but Adrienne and Roger have bought so much there that she went and got the owner and he sold them to me for $15 each. I looked at vining plants (a different kind) last year at Lowe's and they wanted $65 each for theirs. That's why I hadn't gotten anything yet.

I've grown black eyed Susans in the ground but have never seen the vining kind. I love mums of any kind - when you buy any type of daisies, be sure they're part of the Mum family, the mums you buy in the store, in the gift section, aren't perennials. People always get confused by that. The only annuals I mess with are some that I put in a big pot and set in the garden just for color. I found the most Beautiful orange marigold/strain last year and couldn't resist buying a flat. They were perennials, but put on such a show all summer. (I'm sure you already know these "fun flower facts" so disregard if you do. ) :lovey3::D

Linda @LSlycord you know what the builders mean by "it's landscaped". You'll have fun making it your own. Have fun getting all of Syd's stuff home. Let summer begin - well, it's always summer there, but you know what I mean - having Syd home.

I'm going to sign off - hugs to all. Have a happy Saturday.

Good Evening, Everyone.

While I swore I wasn't going back out today, I did. My husband came home with a yard of super loam for my garden so I got to work. Came in, made dinner, and I'm ready to crash. Need to get my grocery list done though before I do.

@LSlycord the bikes haven't made it out yet. My husband is a fair weather rider. The bikes usually come out in May once the mud in the back yard by the motorcycle shed dries. Back when I rode with the Patriot Guard for military funerals, I rode year round. Probably not a good idea in snowy NE, but we got it done.

@faerywings I'm glad you laughed at my photo. It was meant to be funny. Had I know a whole new patch on the other side of my face and neck would come out more today... I'd have waited! It was my Earth Day public warning.... BEWARE. lol

I hope those who feel like crap feel better. That shingles are de-shingling... and that everyone found at least one reason today to smile.

PEACE

Unfortunately, I was the one driving through the traffic mess!
I did take my knitting and I knitted during down time at the hotel and on the first leg of the trip home. I drove the last leg of the trip home.
Mark has his ups and downs with his hemorrhoids, poor guy! I hate it because I can't fix it!
The countryside was beautiful, for sure! The Amish farms are pristine!

Good Saturday Evening to All!
Yesterday was a beautiful day all day long! Today, not so much! Woke up to rain and cooler temps. It stopped raining long enough for Mark and his good friend to enjoy the woods, roasting brats and shooting guns that sounded like tanks! Then we went to take pictures of a granddaughter in her much-too-revealing-prom dress! Her friend was there, too. I asked them if they were going with boys or just going to "hang." They both said, "NO WAY! Boys are weird!" We're just going to hang! I wonder who they were (un)dressing for?

Anywho.......the rain seems to have stopped for the day. It's hard to believe it is 7 p.m. already! I think I will try to do some scrapping today........or maybe some knitting. We shall see!

BFN! :waving1

Good morning ladies! We got most of the big items out of Syd’s room and home. When I talked to her later in the day, she wanted to know if I had unpacked her kitchen items. That’s a big fat no! Why would I unpack them just to pack them again in a couple of weeks?!!

It was easy even though Shaun wasn’t there. Syd is strong for such a little thing and we got it done! Took her to eat lunch at Cheesecake Factory and then we came home. After that, I was tired and decided I was deserving of a nap!

@Nonni F had could you resist going back outside when you had all of that good black soil?

I love black eyed Susan’s @Cherylndesigns so I am fascinated by the thought of them being a vine. I will need to find out what their growing zone is. And you are right, I will have fun making it my own.

@taxed4ever I sure hope that the Covid subsides soon. It is really exhausting...but it is sure a long way from where we were with it 3 years ago!

@vickyday glad that Mark was able to get out into the woods with his friend. If Facebook is an indication, the prom dresses continue to have less material. (I'm still friends with quite a few people with high school aged kids back home so we are into heavy prom season photos on my feed.)

@faerywings I'm hoping that you spent some time in the great outdoors yesterday.

hey hey hey!
Happy Sunday, my dears. I hope you are feeling good and well-rested. Guess what happened to me? I slept until (almost) 7 am! I know-- utter madness. Whisky woke me up at 4 to go out and I thought for sure it was all over from there. I popped my headphones back in, cranked up the podcast I was listening to (The Romans in Scotland), and surprise! I fell back asleep. Wow, I had the strangest dreams in those few hours. Nothing to do with Romans or Scotland, but elevators and fire engines and cubes of something that was an "investment." Oh yeah, and I wanted to make a crown with a number 1 on it. Anyone want to psychoanalyze *that??* No?? :lol23:

Cait and I spent most of yesterday together and I am so glad that we did. I think we both needed to talk like we used to. The past couple of weeks have been really hard and stressful and it felt fantastic to feel connected again. We started to look at bouquets while we were waiting at the FP but my old lady eyes have a hard time seeing things on a cell phone. We started to look at some things on my computer and then she got her laptop (where she keeps her spreadsheets, that girl *loves* her spreadsheets. *G*) and we spent the next 2+ hours looking at flowers and centerpieces and all that fun stuff. We ended up making mimosas halfway through. :drinkglance:
Since she is on a tight budget, she has been looking at silk flowers instead of real and there are very cool options out there. She decided against this but they even make wooden flower bouquets. If you are doing a rustic or boho-themed event, those are seriously neat.
She is pretty much decided against boutonnieres for the guys other than Scott, Tom, and Tom's best man. Did I tell you that Caitlyn is asking Scott to be her Man of Honor? I think I did. Tom is having two women as his "groom's people" which I think is awesome.

It is raining again today so I am going to be catching up on the housework I would have done yesterday but was having too much with wedding stuff. I have to email my SIL back but I need to think of the words I want to say. She emailed me, our MIL, her mom, and two sisters this amazing and beautiful letter about positive women in her life. I was almost in tears over what she said. It was incredibly touching and something I will remember for a long time. She called me a little fairy of a person with the strength of a Greek goddess. I mean, how do you forget that? She is one hell of a person too. ♥ She is also 5'11" and towers over me which was pretty funny when we would go out together. (She is married to Gary's brother and is the realtor that Cait is using which is saving *my* sanity as well.)

Wishing you a fabulous rest of the day! :sparkles1:

@faerywings I am so glad that you and Cait had "that kind" of a day. I know exactly what you are talking about. I don't think that it is very likely that Syd and I will be able to sneak one of those in before she leaves. :( Maybe... I hope so.

Love that she is having Scott as her "Man of Honor"! I don't think that I knew that...but I have missed a few things over the last month. What an incredibly neat email from your SIL. It so helps to know that Cait's realtor is someone knowledgeable and trustworthy with Cait's best interests in mind!

Have a great day cleaning...:floorlaugh: No way I would ever have a great day cleaning.

@LSlycord you were up and in here very early today. it seems like you and Syd did a great job getting everything done that you needed to. Nice to have some lunch and downtime together as well.
I looked up some growing info on the Susie-Vines. I don't know if I'd be able to find them here. They are hardy in Zones 10-11 but can be considered invasive. They must be similar to morning glories which are popular in this area. They won't make it over the winter, or only a few seeds will regenerate but are invasive in warmer zones.
They sure are pretty!

@vickyday Hope that it stopped raining today, so you and Mark can enjoy the woods.
GDD is right, boys *are* weird. How old is she?
So with you on liking modern conveniences. When I listen to/watch the Outlander series I don't know how Claire willingly goes back in time. Of course, Jamie on the other side tips the scales LOL!

@Nonni F Of course, you went back outside. The damage was already done, what's a little more itching and blistering? :D
I forgot that you ride. Some days I miss it, other days I would be terrified to get back on a bike. Most days I would be terrified.

@Su_Sanne I hope that you are feeling a lot better by now too

@Cherylndesigns That has to be one of the best things, knowing people who get you discounts on plants!
My dogs love hiking. It's much easier without them but they both got chunky and J really can't afford any extra on her bionic knee.
Please keep the fun flower facts coming! Even if I know them already, I adore talking about plants and flowers and can never get enough.
I think I am going to get some plants after next week, I looked at the weather and it is going to be chilly (50-60*) next week. If it gets a little warmer after that passes, I will get some tomatoes and impatiens and see what else looks good. I still need to put the plastic on the greenhouse stand before I buy anything.

@taxed4ever BIG hugs to you, are you feeling any better yet? It is so weird how everyone seems to react very differently to it. After 5 days Cait was back to normal, but it lasted much longer for Gary. Sam coughed her head off for weeks, and Scott was mostly tired, and then bam- back to normal.
Hang in there. I know it has to be next to impossible but just rest-- don't worry about your other things. They'll still be there.

Love and hugs!

Linda, I knew you get what I meant about having and needing to have those days with Syd. She is very connected to you too, just like Caitlyn is to me. I bet she is going to want and need to spend some time with you before she leaves for Germany.
Is the new house going to bring you closer to Gainsville?

So far the weather is sunny and bright today!
I'm probably going to be working in my she shed. I'm cleaning it out. When our family gathers over Memorial Day Weekend, I'm going to let my girls and granddaughters go through it and pick what they want. I'm out of that stage of crafting, LOL! I've already given all of my 2oz. bottles of paint to my GDD, along with my canvases. (I am sorting out the things I want to keep from the things they can have, you understand! ;) )

The GDD who said boys are yucky is going to be 17 in July. She had a boyfriend, so after her comment I'm wondering if they are no longer an item and that caused her statement.......or since he is a bit older she meant HS boys are yucky, LOL! Whatever! Teenagers!

There ARE some things I would enjoy about "going back in time" but not much. Not being afraid to talk to your neighbors is one thing! Not living so close to neighbors would be another, LOL! Simple ways with modern conveniences, I guess, LOL! Nerry the twain shall meet!

Good Sunday Morning to all!
Quick in and out before I head out to church.
It is beautiful here in NC this morning with a high expected in the low 60's! My kind of weather! No plans for the day other than working in the she shed. I did not get any knitting done yesterday. I got some kits to do some Amish Country pages, but didn't work on those either. Believe it or not, I've been going to bed early with Mark after going to bed early with the girls last week! Of course, that means getting up earlier, too! I'll probably settle back into my late night routine this week.

Have a beautiful day!

The new house is about the same distance to Gainesville. I wasn’t willing to go further!

Good morning all.

I'm up early and we're leaving for Muskogee in about an hour and a half. It will take me that long to get ready. LOL Don't anybody laugh - you ALL know I'm much better later in the afternoon and really hitting my stride about 6 PM. We're taking Roger to the airport, then going shopping. We haven't been over there for a while and all the "good" stores are there - TJ Maxx, HomeGold's, World Market, like I said the "good" stores. I miss having them so close, but those are the trade-offs.

Chris, I'm so happy you and Cait had such a nice day. I think it's so cool that the kids aren't doing the traditional thing. Anything is acceptable anymore. People have their dogs as ring bearers, even. Yes, getting discounts on plants is the best! They have bought SO much from this nursery - lots and lots of big trees and evergreens so they always get a discount. I won't go there by myself, that's for sure.

Linda @LSlycord I'm happy you like my "fun flower facts". You have to be careful with mums too - there are annuals and perennials. They have to be "hardy mums" to be perennials. It's so funny that all the flowers we've been talking about are part of the mum family. I have regular daisies coming back up - just the white ones with the yellow centers. They're so sweet. My Salvia is almost blooming now - it's purple.

Vicky, @vickyday sounds like you're feeling better. Hope you get to go out into the woods today. Trudy @taxed4ever hope you're even a little better today.

I'm going to get off of here so I won't have to rush. I hate rushing this early. :eek2:

Happy Sunday. XOXO

J/K I'm not going to be gone all day after all. You'll see me hanging around here. We don't have to cancel plans very often, but they got too convoluted today - re: airport shenanigans. #angry2

Thank you my dear! It's not over yet. But after the pills it's getting better. It really wasn't nice. If you don't even feel like scraping, that's supposed to mean something... All the best to you! I'll get back to you soon. xoxo
