Happy Halloween and the last day of October. Lemme tell you, it does not feel like either thing today to me. I have never been as nonchalant and unenthused about Halloween in my life as I am this year. One reason is that it is going to be near 80*. I remember trick or treating as a kid and always being furious that I'd have to wear my coat over my gorgeous (plastic) costume. ( /s )
As for the rest, I have no clue why. Maybe it's because so many other things are happening all around me. Who has time to be pretend scared when there is so much real-life scary?

Between my parents and my BFF, I have used every last bit of knowledge and experience I have from all of my psych courses and past therapy sessions to help them. I'm doubtful that anything I am suggesting is making much of a difference. BFF has her MRI and surgery dates scheduled. My dad's birthday (Nov 10) dinner plans are basically SNAFU at this point. I am pretty sure that the bone pain plaguing me is a side effect from the new meds. I did a yoga session for back pain yesterday and my muscles felt fine as I went through the poses. But touching my hips and vertebrae was ridiculously sore. :/

Work has been awesome, thank goodness for that. :D
I am heading in early this morning to do some brainstorming and planning for the possible HS Field Trips. If it all goes through, I'll be the Point Person for content and scheduling. The mom that wants to do this with her HS pod has no real requirements, other than 1-2 mornings a month for ages 5-10. I'd rather have suggestions as to what topics she wants to cover so I have a starting point, it would be easier. I did some brainstorming yesterday so I narrowed it down to a few possible directions and we can go from there at today's meeting. Then I am working this afternoon for the HS- today's topic is spiders. I wish I could get some good pics of the spider I see every morning on my porch. It spins a gorgeous web by the light fixture and is awesome to watch.

One other good thing-- I slept better last night-- 6 hours instead of 5. :cheer:

Have a fab day!!♥

Need to get my shower as I am sure Ilene will want to meet for breakfast.
I may be meeting a girl who wants a lot of my cling stamps from FB Marketplace! WOOHOO!
We got our car back yesterday!
Have a great day!
It has been a while since you saw Ilene, hope you two ladies had a great visit.

I took some deep breaths and swallowed an entire bottle of Pepto Bismal. I think I am better now :p

We had 70s on Sunday and upper 80s yesterday, supposed to be cooler today and 40 tomorrow. I'm ready for seasonable weather.
That's what it has been like here. Today near 80* and on Saturday, we are going to be at 50* Stil no rain in sight.
That's so smart to stockpile your bbq meats. Grill 'em while you can.
We have a grill. For real.
It hasn't been used for at least 6-7 years when mice built a nest in it and no one wanted to remove it. The rare times Gary wants red meat he'll cook it on the stove in the cast iron pan. Usually burns the you know what out of it.
How is your stomach today? Hope you are feeling better!
I love Stellaluna!!! Such a sweet book and read it every night to my kids in the 90's. They loved the book.
My kids' favorite book was (is) The Kissing Hand. Caitlyn gave Sam's sister a copy at her baby shower last year and wrote inside how much she loved it growing up. We'll still give each other a "kissing hand" when we need a little boost.
Yes, we would have loved you anyway and thought, Yep, our sweet crazy Chris is off today but that's okay cause we love her!
It stopped snowing but might start again tomorrow. We got just over a foot and it was wet wet heavy snow. The littles just follow the bigs, jumping from foot print to foot print. They also hop along in the human footprints. Its adorable. But they then run full speed as soon as its cleared and they can move.
The little dogs must think they can keep up with the bigs! We shovel a "pee spot" for my girls for the times they don't want to plop their hineys in the snow LOL

@taxed4ever IMHO-- it's never a good idea to hike in the rain when the leaves are covering the rocks. Or when it rains and the leaves *aren't* covering the rocks :D Who wants to hike in the rain voluntarily? Not me! LOL!
I LOVE your spooky cards! I can't believe that are stamped and done by hand- stunning!!

Morning, all. Well, I broke down and turned the heat on last night. Got down to high 30's last night and will be at or below freezing for the next several nights. Brrrr!!! :brrr: Definitely time to change into winter PJs, too!!! :cold: Think I will be staying in for a few days while the temps are down and the wind is blowing.
Brrr is right, especially with that wind.
Sorry that I can't be empathetic about you not getting a turkey (or with al of you BBQ-ing carnivores :floorlaugh:) but I am sympathetic for you.
What a hassle hubby had today, he went to get his license renewed here in FL...long story short ...May 2021 the 3rd day of our summer trip we were in S. Carolina and a lady (on her phone) hit our trailer and totaled it her fault. S Carolina put his license on hold so he couldn't renew.
Argh!! That sounds so maddening!

Vicky-- please get your wrist checked out today!
I haven't been feeling all that great for a couple of days and today I am just totally exhausted. This has been coming on for a few days
Sending over some tea and chicken soup through my monitor to you~~
Hope that you can rest well and feel better.
(Why I am not surprised that everyone is feeling icky aside from Ava?)
Any sign of Sam???? I know he loves to be outside but yikes, that sounds like it is a long time, even for him.

xoxo

Happy Halloween to all of my O friends!!

. I hope that the forecast is better for all of you than it is supposed to be here! Rain, Rain and more Rain!! Poor kids, oh well I guess its better than freezing cold and snowing? I got all my treat bags filled and ready to hand out, it might have to be done by my Gary as I am getting my hair done late this afternoon and the little goblins might be already going from house to house before I get back. It will be the In-Laws first Halloween in the new house, they never used to get any kids at all at the old place, it was too far out of the way. I think FIL is looking forward to handing out treats, or maybe eating most of them himself, he has a real sweet tooth!! I don't have much to do today except catch up on some month end things here at the O and get my bone broth started as it never got done yesterday.

This was always your most fav time of the year Chris, sorry to hear that you are underwhelmed about it this year! Hope that the doggy trick or treaters cheer you up a bit! At least work is putting a smile on your face! Thank you for the nice compliment on my cards, I did a couple more yesterday, but now I am Halloween'd out LOL.
Happy halloween!
OMG tanteva you are killing me!! :lol23:

@Cherylndesigns - Ohh noo I am so sorry that you are not feeling well, sounds like everyone has a bit of something!! What a sweetie that Ava is bringing you a care package!! Sending you lots of healing vibes and virtual chicken soup, please feel better soon!! :hug2:

Ok off to start my bone broth and then get busy here, I hope you all have a Happy Halloween! Yikes that means tomorrow is November :waving2:goodbye October, you went by way to quickly!!

Good Morning O!
Happy Halloween.
Feeling icky. Throat scratchy, sinus filled. Yeah head cold. Body wore out. Fed 170 people last night. o_O Our normal is 150. Where did the extra people come from??? We had enough thankfully but oh it was close.
@BoatLady Debby the plow photo looks amazing!!! I will cry buckets when I have to replace my set up but when I do I want the plow that bends in the middle and makes airflow to the engine better.
@faerywings Chris I am sorry your favorite time of the year is so lack luster this year. Thats always so hard.
We wont get any kids at our house and that's just fine. We will take the grands to a couple trunk or treats today. Will be fun but oh I am wore out already. November isn't looking much better in resting either. Oh well, its suppose to snow today and its beautiful out so I will enjoy it.
Need more coffee! Have a wonderful day!

It will be 80 degrees today, I hope all the kids have nice. cool costumes! Definitely not typical Halloween weather around here. I left all the windows open last night and turned the ceiling fan back on, but David put on the radiant heat bathroom floor for showers this morning so I don't know what he was thinking. At least we don't have the AC on again.

I vacuumed yesterday, and even with my wrist brace on it took a few hours to recover from the ache that gave me, Maybe I can get out of housecleaning for a couple more weeks LOL.

Morning ladies... it is so dark and gloomy outside!! I hate that the days are so short now and to put me in a even worse mood, it is pouring rain, so no hike for me today. I know I am bad for not going, a lot of our group hikes no matter what the weather is. I don't find it enjoyable hiking up a mountain in the pouring rain :gloomy:. I do miss seeing my friends though and the social aspect of our group! So today I will stay home and get caught up on a few projects. Heather called last night to thank us for the laptop we sent to her last week with the free shipping, she is very grateful for it and a few other things I threw into that parcel!! :lovey3:. I had to laugh as she said "who knew a computer could be that fast?" It was a laptop that my DH spilled wine all over and when we took it in to have it repaired they told us there was nothing they could do to fix it. It always worked as long as it was plugged in, but as soon as you unplugged it the battery just died. Well I used it for awhile in my craft room, until I got my new iMac, then my old iMac went in the craft room and I put the laptop in a drawer. When Heather said she needed a new one I thought I would see if she wanted that laptop that I put away. I got it out and it still was working and for some reason it was now keeping a charge also. Guess it just really needed to be dried out completely and free from the wine my DH spilled all over it :giggle4:. Anyway I reset it back to factory settings and sent it off to her, she loves it!! I have been working on some Halloween cards for the neighbour kids, its been fun doing those I have a couple more to finish off today.
View attachment 431757
These stamps are what I spend far too much money on, but it does bring me joy!!
Those cards are so cute!
I also don't like hiking in the rain. One of the reasons I turned down my daughter & son-in-law's suggestion we move to Seattle when we retired. Although I do wish we were closer to the grandkids.

We grill with a pellet grill, and they make blankets to wrap around so they stay warm.

Makes so we can grill most of the year. We take it off for summer though. There's nothing like a nice grilled steak in the middle of winter. Makes summer not feel so far off. Or grilled burgers. Yep, I am in carnivore camp with your and @JeanneMN Bring on the meat! Caveman style! :giggle4: Sorry Chris. Twin started it! :pokestick:
We grill outside all year round, although if it's really cold I have to add some time onto the expected cooking time. But then we live in Virginia, not Alaska! I love to grill, makes for fewer dishes to wash.

Will miss having the turkey carcass to use to make turkey and dumplings though.
I know what you mean! We will be with the kids for Thanksgiving and I will miss that carcass. But I probably will make a turkey when we get home just because I want turkey bones. At least the cooked meat freezes well and that makes for some easy-peasy dinners until I forget I have it.

He had to prove he had insurance on the truck..we gave then our card when the accident happened but obliviously something went wrong. Then he came home to make phone calls to get it straightened out after over 1 1/2 hours he finally got it solved. The truck and it's insurance had nothing to do with the accident...grrr but I guess it will work out ok.
Sheesh, what a pain that had to have been! It just seems that everything gets more and more complicated sometimes.

Had an interrupted sleep last night - awake from 2:15 till 3:00. On Tuesday night as I laying in bed reading (around 9 PM), I heard an unusual noise but couldn't tell where it came from. Decided it had to from outside as the wind was blowing. Late yesterday afternoon I was trying to figure out which of the smoke alarms was chirping - the one in the hall, the guest bedroom or the craft room. When I stepping into the craft room, I looked up and to my surprise (and horror), the ceiling fan/light fixture was hanging down about 10" from the ceiling with the wires holding it from dropping!! o_O  :jawdrop3: That was what caused the strange noise the night before!!! I knew I was not able to fix it so I called DD#3 and ask if she could come over and bring one of her sons to fix it. DD#3 has put in several ceiling fans and is quite the handyman. They will be over this afternoon. They can't come sooner due to other commitments they both have. Which is what lead to broken sleep last night... I woke up and was worried about the fan falling. Got up and move the large office chair right under the fan so if it falls the chair will catch it. The ceiling light/fan was installed by a professional from Lowe's so I am very surprised that it came loose. I dug out the installation manual for the fan so they can figure out what happened and how to fix it. I called Lowe's but the installation warranty is only good for 1 year and it has been over 2 years.

Decided I had better turn off the electricity to it... of course, it turned off all the over head lights including the garage lights!!

Good afternoon,
Not much going on here today. Just thinking about my dad who was a Halloween baby. I miss him.
I took some beef stew out of the freezer for our supper tonight.
I have a couple days of ATCs to do.
I'm considering being MIA for team work through November until my wrists improve. I still need to contact my doctor. I'm a procrastinator.
Have a great day!

Oh my Kay! I am glad you are safe and hope it does't far any more. Glad your DD and GS can come help.

Okay, Mama Bear here! GET OFF YOUR TUSH AND GET TO THE DOCTOR!
Okay, I feel better. But you know if youre taking time off from a loved craft, then its time to go in and get it rechecked. You should be feeling better by now. Please call and make an appointment or go to ER and get checked. Something doesn't sound right and you dont want a worse issue because you waited. :heartpumppink:

Quick up-date.. ... DD#3 and her oldest son came to help. Turns out the box in the ceiling that the fan/light hook up to had a support piece that broke in two. They took down the fan/light and taped off the ends of the electric wires. I need to hire an electrician to replace the box in the ceiling. I also decided to just buy a ceiling light and not put the fan/light back up. Will be calling the electrician co we have used in the past tomorrow. They did change all the smoke alarm batteries so that is done!

Well hello Lady O's
Busy day here. Still trying to clean the bathroom grout so I am thinking about recoloring the grout. We put up a nice fan in the Florida room the other one was pretty ugly. Lunch Pool day was fabulous. Then back home to let another Monarch free. She was really ready so off she went. When I fed the birds tonight we had 13 mallards, 2 moorhens, 5 Muscovy, 1 blue heron, 1 white egret, 2 woodstorks, 1 little blue heron. It was a wonderful feeding frenzy.
Quick dinner then ready for the trick or treater's....an hour later...1--- the kid across the street.

@AK_Tracy sorry you are not feeling well. I sure hope you are feeling better very soon. sounds like another plow day for you.

@faerywings I kinda lost my Halloween enthusiasm when I was working. I managed a fabric store...we had so many people come in to make costumes..then the next day needing help to make them. There were many long days/nights and then to prep my kids. Our son loves Halloween and still dresses up at 50!!!!! I hope your excitement comes back at dark so you can go have fun.

@BrightEyes sound like you have a safe plan. Good luck with that important repair.

Hello everyone. Haven't turned on the computer for two days! Wednesdays and Thursdays are turning into a kind of time warp. Have no idea where the days went. Work is busy but fulfilling, and come home more tired than I should be!
We had exactly 1 Trick or Treater tonight, and now we have a whole bag of candy eat. Mark is off work for another month, then they'll re-evaluate. Half day of work tomorrow, then I have a lunch date with a friend and we're going to go thrifting. I'm looking forward to it.
@BoatLady your backyard bird list is impressive!! So cool to have all those water birds. Your monarch project sounds wonderful too.
@AK_Tracy Love your costume!
@BrightEyes so glad to hear the fan didn't crash all the way to the floor but how dangerous is That!! So happy you have talented family members!
@vickyday on the bandwagon here encouraging you to get checked out!! We want to see a doctors report very soon! :heartpumpred:
Off to bed now, Hope you all have had a great day!

Hello all,

Just a quick check in.

Chris @faerywings Sam came home about 3 AM!! Daisy and I were so happy to see the little guy. She had been moping around (more than normal) and I know she was wondering where her little buddy was. He seemed a little "off", but seems okay this morning. He was gone for a day and a half. A long time even for him.

I'll try to get back later. I feel a little bit better today. I finally got to sleep about 6 AM, so I didn't wake back up until 11:30. A total repeat of the night before. UGH I hope this isn't coming back; I was doing pretty well, for me.

Well, it's later and Sam isn't doing well. I think he might have gotten bit by something. I had to go out in the dark and find him tonight - good thing I have a bright flashlight. He was laying on the hilly side of the house and I could see him, and he hates to be picked up. I called "kitty kitty kitty" which he always responds to. I could see him starting to move and I kept calling him and then he let me pick him up. That was scary - carrying a cat and a flashlight and trying not to fall down the hill. My sheer will let me get him back to the patio. By then he wasn't happy with being carried, so he followed me into the back door. He's been drinking and eating Daisy's food (hey, he can eat what he wants right now). He tried to drink out of his fountain, but I could see that wasn't working for him, so I put a bowl of water beside it and he drank. He's curled up in his little basket now. I moved it from the corner to the middle of the living room and he's fast asleep. We'll take him to the vet tomorrow if he's not better. We're not blessed with vets here, but there's a guy way on the other side of town that we take him to. He loves cats. When we adopted him, that's where the Humane Society takes their cats. Roger came down and we decided to see what's going on with him tomorrow. (Aunt Chris @faerywings please don't give me grief - I've already gotten it from my family, but sometimes I have to do what I have to do.)

Oh, Daisy also got out and you know what she did - yep took off for parts unknown. I could hear Chuck's voice in my ear "she'll come home when she gets hungry". She finally did. After her wild run, she was on her way up to Ava's to find her dogs. They're put up in their "dog hotel" so she was out of luck. She's exhausted now - laying on her blanket in my office. She was worried to pieces over the cat. I had to get stern with her to leave him alone. I laid him on his blanket on the couch, but he wasn't happy there. She was laying right at his head looking at him.

Anyway, that's my "news". It's always something on the compound - I keep forgetting we live in the deep woods. I worry about Sam every time he goes out, but he's an outside cat.
