Crochet?

Does anyone else crochet? If so, how long and who taught you? I've been crocheting 40+ years and my mom taught me. She also taught me to knit and tat but truth be told crochet is where my heart is. I started with dishcloths and when I teach that's what I start people on too. They're simple and you get something useful when you're done. I made a ton of them when my husband was going through cancer treatment during covid. I wasn't allowed in the room with him so I needed to kill time. My current passion is blankets. I love to make them and enter them into the Missouri State Fair. So far in the last three years I have one 1st, two 2nd and two 3rd. This picture is the start of my 2025 state fair entry. Feel free to share what you're working on too!

WOW! That is beautiful. I tried knitting but my hands cant handle holding the needles long. This is so beautiful and intricate. I can see you winning another first place.

Wow! what you are working on looks great.

I crochet and was partly self taught. My Aunt who was left handed got me started when I was about 15 years old. I started with granny squares and made those into a small rug. My next project was a jumper for myself.

Currently I am using up Milk Cotton I had bought for making baby summer shoes for the ones I was selling in a local craft store but as we are no longer part of the store and I cannot see me selling my baby items anywhere else, I want to make use of the yarns I have. I am making a round baby blanket and when finished I will give it away. I attend a weekly craft group with older ladies and we sit and work on whatever craft project we want while we chat. One of the ladies does crochet and makes blankets to give away to charity groups so when my blanket is finished I will ask her where she suggests I donate it.

I crocheted for years. My mom taught me how and I was a crochet nut. I have made several throws and unfortunately don't have any pictures handy. I'll have to see if I can dig some of them up.

Your work is beautiful and I can see why it's prize winning!

My mother crocheted wonderfully but I couldn't learn from her. As a young adult textile artist I took a class at a local library and just took off with it. I made clothes and other things, but my real love was sculptural forms. I don't crochet these days, just do digital or paper art. Here are two very old examples and more recent fall decorations more or less using a pattern displayed with a crocheted doily by one of DH's aunts.

That is beautiful! I used to crochet until the arthritis in my thumbs got so bad. I never did anything extravagant like your beautiful blanket shown! I mostly crocheted my grand babies sweaters and dresses and booties. I made a cowgirl hat and boots one time. My mom crocheted, so I'm sure she started me out, but mainly I learned on my own. I taught myself to knit, too. But I haven't knitted since I broke my wrist in 2023. I need to get back at it because I was in the middle of a sweater and I have a poncho project that I bought yarn for just before my accident.

@deej that piece is incredible!
I taught myself how to crochet after one of my surgeries. Tried to keep myself busy and resting. I am not very good at it so sometimes it took more energy than it was worth. I haven't done anything in a long time although I still have plenty of yarn.
I should take it out again soon and see if I remember enough to get started :)

I taught myself to crochet. I haven't done it since the dawn of digital cameras, so no pictures, handy - I made sweaters, vests, blankets - It's just one of many crafts I dabbled in that I still have UFO's to prove it.
