Christmas Cards

Whatcha all doing? Last year, my card pretty much made itself. The pictures we got in September just really screamed Christmas card. I found the perfect poem, a simple overlay....viola! They were done.

This year I'm struggling. I don't have any pics screaming for Christmas Card billing.

What are you all doing? Help jump start my creativity!!

Okay...................NOT MUCH HELP HERE....cause I have not even THOUGHT ABOUT IT!! HAHAHA!!!! But thanks for starting this so now I can start worrying over it! HAHAHA!!!

I will be back when I come up with something.......keeping my eye to see what anyone else has started!!

Lol, I'm in the same boat as Linda. I'm hoping to get some good pictures of us or our dog lol around thanksgiving. It all depends on if I get our wedding thank yous done before then!

Ok. I just got a bout of inspiration....12 Days of Christmas. Ben hiking in the forest = partridge in a pear tree. At the pool = Seven swans a swimming. Playing instruments = Drummers drumming.

Anyone know of a template like that?

All right....DH doesn't seem thrilled with the pictures I've picked out to go with this theme. Now I feel stuck again. * sigh *

Here's a question for you American girls......do you always use a family type photo on Christmas cards? We don't here in the UK, in fact, I run screaming from the whole idea and I know my DH would too.

Thankfully, my kids school does a fundraising thing each year whereby the kids design a Christmas/thank you/whatever theme card then it gets sent off to a company that makes up the cards and the school gets a commission for each 10 pack we buy. Ginny's design last year was horrendous - but because it said "Ginny aged 8" on the back it kind of made it OK.

The year before I created 2 digi cards which I got printed at 6x4 then stuck on blank cards that I'd run through my printer typing on my greeting - cheating maybe, but a lot easier than writing "Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year" on 120 cards! I bought these elements from, ahem, another store, the one with Ali & Cathy neither of whom designed these, but I was pretty pleased with the funky colours I picked.

This really was super easy and took all the major thinking out of the whole thing, once I'd finalised the design. And I even managed to make them all up when babysitting for my neighbour - even got her girls to help me!!

Here's another question.....do you send cards/give gifts for Thanksgiving?

I personally ADORE cards with pics of the fam on them, but only because I love pics of my darling friends. And I love to show off my kids!! (of course!!)

I may use templates I have from years past. I tell you what, I'm definitely going digital completely this year. Last year I sent probably 100 digital/printed and 50 hand stamped with pics in them. I'm hoping to snag Megan again to do our fam portrait again. We'll see if we can coordinate our schedules...it's tough, but at least Mr Gorgeous isn't traveling!!

and no, Selena, we (the kellers) don't do Thanksgiving presents or cards, but sometimes if I have it together, I send invites or menus via email to the fam and then we do some artsy fun thing at our actual celebration where we all have to write what we are thankful for. Last year it was a paper wreath with paper leaves that all had journaling lines on them. And we wrote what we were thankful for and stuck the leaves on the wreath. One year I printed out a turkey from Karah Fredricks thanksgiving kit for each person in the fam. Then we went around and everyone wrote something they were thankful for on the feathers of each other's turkey. My turkey is taped to my bathroom mirror, so I see what my fam is thankful for in me every day! It's quite a pick-me-up...

but again, that's me going overboard on everything! Probably because Thanksgiving is one of my very very fave holidays!!! :)

LOL Clara! Would it kill you to find out that I ended up working on something with the 12 Days theme??? I got some of it done. In partial thanks to Liz's Press Plate 27. Matt thinks it's cute, so we may just go with that. I may have to stage a few pictures though...Anyone got any ideas for 3 French Hens?

Selena - Most everyone I know either puts a picture on the card or in the card. A lot of people think the "newsletter" idea is hokey, but I personally love it. I love catching up with my friends that I don't get to see on a regular basis and on the family. I don't know anyone who doesn't cards or gifts for Thanksgiving. In that way, I like Thanksgiving better. No matter which side we spend it on, it's about hanging out with family and lots of games together. No stress of presents. :-) And your cards are beautiful by the way!!

Lori - That is so pretty! I love the silhouettes!

Sally - I am thankful for you every day. :-)

Christmas cards? Really? Come on your killing me!! let me at least get home first.

That's my girl!!!!! I made the mistake about telling my mom that my family nixed the idea of possibly going to see my brother and the new baby (if they are home) on Christmas day. That sounds harsh but we'll be seeing them all on Christmas Eve.
Anyway, she went off on a huge tangent of times and places and plans for CHRISTMAS! :help:

Seriously, let me get through one day at a time, that is *all* I can handle ATM!LOL

Sara- the 12 days is really cute! I can't wait to see what you do with it. 3 French Hens... 3 Cornish hens for dinner? LOL

Did he make hand print turkeys in the past or will he this year? Have him hold three of them- IMHO that would work out perfectly.

I used to do the big Christmas card list. When Gary got sick, it was just too much, too much money, too much time, too much stress trying to pretend that life was good. I took a few years off, but now I make a digital card and send it out that way. It appeals to my tree huggy-ness that i am not killing trees!

That's a good idea. I bet we have a turkey thing from last year. Or I could wait on that one until closer to Thanksgiving. No reason to be completely done before then. :-)
