Butterflies!

Today is Butterfly Education and Awareness Day (BEAD), set aside on the first Saturday in June to raise awareness of how important butterflies are to the world's ecosystem.

I am so happy that the Detroit Zoo has an indoor Butterfly Garden that is open year round--it is full of tropical plants and flowers and butterflies fluttering around freely everywhere. I love to go there just to take pictures, and have had a few butterflies land on me and just hang out.

I also love it when digi designers put butterfly elements in their kits! If one is included I almost always manage to find a use for one on my layouts.

On the other hand, my youngest daughter hates any sort of flying insect, including butterflies. She doesn't like to go into the butterfly house, and once when we were in there and I was taking a photo of her and her sisters, I asked her why she wasn't smiling. She replied, "Mom, I'm sitting here screaming inside!" :fear:

So, I wonder, does everyone enjoy butterflies as much as I do, or are there a few who agree with my daughter?

I love them too! There are so many beautiful ones! Love to use them in layouts too! They give me a feeling of freedom!

I adore butterflies. I have lots of plants that attract them in the spring & summer.

Last month, I went to Epcot's Festival of Flowers and their butterfly house was spectacular. They were so busy I could hardly get the be still long enough to take a photo of them though. haha

Getting photos is definitely a trial-and-error operation!

I love butterflies, real ones and the digi ones in kits!

Angie, if your daughter does not like butterflies, you can always add them digitally in your layouts!

I watched a documentary on the migration travels of the Monarch butterfly. It was so interesting. When they finally found the breeding place for them the trees were covered with butterflies making it hard to tell what was leaves and what was butterflies.

I love butterflies too and have been seeing quite a few fluttering around.

Two years ago, my DS brought home a milkweed plant from the nursery where he worked. We found a cocoon under one of the leaves and we waited very impatiently for it to emerge. Sadly, he made it out of the cocoon but one of his wings had a big wrinkle in it and he wasn't ever able to fly. We tried so hard to feed him so he could gain strength but we didn't have any luck

I tried planting milkweed one year but didn't see any visitors. I thought the plant was supposed to be a perennial but it didn't come back the next year and I moved to my apartment soon after. If I ever get back into a house with a yard I am definitely going to try again.
