Balloons anyone?

We have recently celebrated my son's 15th birthday and my husband's 60th (not on the same day but within a week) and we had balloon decoration on both days. Personally, I am not a fan of balloons for birthdays so when my mother bought a soccer-themed balloon arrangement for my son's birthday and a more sophisticated black-and-white-and-gold one for my husband's I was rather skeptical about the whole thing... But she was super excited about it, so I didn't object much. Both kits came with a pump and a string to tie the 50 or so balloons together so it took us a couple of hours to get the look completed. Never thought I'd ever say it, but it actually looked good. This is what the soccer-themed garland looked like.

Of course, balloons are a classic decoration for birthdays, but opinions on them can be divided. Some people think they add a festive touch to any celebration, while others feel they're too childish or over-the-top. Some people think balloons are cheesy or tacky, and that they're better suited for children's parties than adult ones. Others might feel like balloons are wasteful or bad for the environment.

So, what do you think? Do you like balloons for birthdays, or do you think they're too childish? Are there other decorations you prefer, or do you think less is more when it comes to birthday decor?

When my kids were younger, balloons were definitely part of the party decor, although usually as individual ones floating around as the kids played with them. Balloon arches and banners such as you pictured are much more popular now. In my neighborhood Buy Nothing group, garlands are often passed around from household to household to be used until they deflate or fall apart.

That is so cute, Olga. I love the soccer balloons. I've seen some beautiful balloon arches - they had a huge purple and white balloon arch at the last Alzheimer's Walk I attended, and I've seen some lovely arches at weddings. I've never attempted to make one, though.

You did a fantastic job on your balloon arch! Our oldest daughter has an Etsy store where she makes things to sell and now she has started a second business making balloon arches! They are very popular. She has made many for schools in the area for different events.

Balloons terrify me. I like the idea of them, but once they pop, I am outta there. I do like the soccer-themed one though.

Making one was surprisingly easy - we tied two together and then wrapped the tied baloons around a tread...

in other words, the kit came with a pump and a manual :)
