Oh, Kay, what a beautiful idea. Thank you for sharing. I miss my hubby so much through the holidays too, so perhaps I'll do something similar. (((BIG HUGS))) to you in the year ahead, and I feel sure you're going to cope well with whatever the new year brings your way. ♥As I have been doing since 2018 (the year my husband died) - on New Year's Eve I write a 'look back at the year' letter to my hubby.. It helps to review some of the events of the year and it also includes a few of the LOs I made that year. These letter LOs are placed in his Memory Albums along with LOs with him and/or us together that I have made. I take time to look through the albums and remember our lives together and the fun and adventures we shared. It helps to see how far I have come since he has been gone. I can then face the New Year with hope in the future and faith that I can cope with whatever it brings.
I don't think I've ever heard of an ugly cake! Good luck with the vegan experiment!I always make an "ugly cake" on New years eve. And on new years day, Veganuary starts. It will be interesting tomtry to be vegan for a month.
That sounds like a lot of fun! I'm sure we'll be seeing photos, can't wait! We're actually going to a "real" NYE party this year and I can't remember when I've ever done that. We're going to a Roaring 20's party at a local restaurant. They're converting the entire place into a Speak Easy! We've become friends with the owner and it's going to be quite an event. We've been abuzz getting outfits to wear since way before Christmas. It's a costume party - we've been visiting vintage stores and finding things online. I'm going as Julie Andrews in Victor/Victoria - she played a woman (Victoria) playing a man (Victor). I'm wearing a black tuxedo.
We're actually having our extended family Christmas party on January 8th! I'm sure you'll enjoy every minute!Actually, I'll be celebrating Christmas on New Year's Day. My son was sick at Christmas, so I was unable to get together with him and his family as we normally do. Due to our record-breaking cold last week, his community has been out of water since last Saturday due to a frozen busted water main. So, if the water is restored, we plan to celebrate Christmas and the New Year, on the same day. Better late than never! Christmas Tree
That's a lovely tradition, Kay. And I'm glad it's a positive experience for you, since moving forward is really the only good choice we have, isn't it?As I have been doing since 2018 (the year my husband died) - on New Year's Eve I write a 'look back at the year' letter to my hubby.. We're really excited about it - I haven't been to a "real" NYE party for so long - I can't even remember. That sounds like a lot of fun! I'm sure we'll be seeing photos, can't wait!

Oh, no! I usually associate fireworks with the summer holidays, although come to think of it, a neighboring city had fireworks during their Christmas tree lighting celebration earlier in December. We will be staying home to comfort our dogs as they will be terrified. All kinds of fireworks are legal in Florida for 4th of July and NYE, so it’s always nuts.
Like I told Cheryl, pictures - or it didn't happen! We are actually going to a real New Years Dance with our Son and Daughter in law and sister in law and her boyfriend!! A fav band is playing it will be so much fun to be together and dance the night away!!
Nothing special here. I may or may not stay up to usher in the new year. If there is a good movie on, I will probably watch it. Our house will be very quiet!
Nothing special this year. We're going to take it easy. Some food, some wine and there always is a comedian on television talking a about the past year.
New years day will be a lazy day, for the day after works starts again.
Sounds like a yummy dinner! My sister and I have done a New Years Eve day hike for the last two years. I didn't even think of it for this year until she messaged me yesterday to see if I wanted to go. It's currently raining here so we're going to see if the weather clears a little later. This thread inspired me. Syd and I are going to cook Beef Wellington, asparagus and creme brulee for dinner. I'm going to try to get everyone to dress for dinner but I suspect that won't work. I'm hoping that there are some grape juice sparkling wines still at the store for a toast to the New Year.
Then I am planning to get up and get to Anastasia State Park by 8:30 for an Annual First Day Hike where a state park ranger will take us through the marsh trails, the salt run and then through the maritime hammock trails.
Even though I haven't gone out in years, I always made it a point to stay up until midnight and watch the fun on TV. I think last year is the first year I just went to bed at my normal time.I haven't stayed up to midnight in decades. I never liked the whole NYE deal personally. I always found it somewhat depressing, even as a kid. Too much emotional pressure haha!!
When the kids were younger, they would wake me up at midnight, wish me happy NY, and then let me go back to sleep. My kind of celebration
Our Son & DIL are doing their first public "gig" at a New Years party- They're starting a new side venture called "Ball n Chain". They sing beautifully together. So WE are babysitting! LOL. Going to make hard rock candy and pretzels. We'll let them stay up as late as we possibly can so they will sleep in, LOL Maybe next year WE will get to go to a party!
