Action ... I think it was ... I don't remember ... Help ... LOL

First, excuse me for my computer language skills. LOL

Ok, before my hiatus - on my old puter I had an action (I think it was an action) in my PSE, that I could use to cut away all the extra empty space aroung, let's say a cluster or anything I had made, to make the image as small as possible. Used it a lot for when I made clusters for Silvia Romeo, when I was on her CT.

For the life of me I cannot remember what it was called ... and as you see I have no right terms for anything anymore. Forgetten it all during my hiatus. I've been trying to find it on my EHD, but it's not easy when I don't remember what it was called. I'm sure it's not called Cut Away Empty Space Action, I'm sure it has some kind of Photoshop terminology name. LOL

Wow! I had no idea that was there. I had an action on my old computer. LOL

But I had PSE5 before I think, I'm using PSE11 now, maybe that's why?

Thanks!

I know what everyone thinks now: "Wow - how on earth is she able to scrap at all?!!" :D :D :D

Why don't you contact Silvia and ask her the name of the action so you can find it on your pc? It's possible that she may still have it?

OR contact our own Wendy from Wendyzine Scraps and see if she has one? Wendy is our Actions Queen so she may have one? I had a quick look in her store but couldn't find anything, but that is not to say that she hasn't made one! lol! :)

No - I didn't get it from Silvia, it wasn't her action, she only sell kits. But when you say it ... wonder if it wasn't an action of Wendyzine? Well, I could do it in PSE11 aparently as soon as I knew it was "trim" I was looking for.

As I might have mentioned before - I went from an English version of PSE5 to a Swedish version of PSE11, so terms get lost in translation a bit. Also, I stopped digiscrapping after only a couple of months after switching programs, so I really never learned PSE11 properly. I've printed a list of translated words for Photoshop that I found on-line, and learning as I go. I'm a learning-by-doing kinda girl.

Yes it's under Image. 3rd choice on the drop down menu.

I have PSE19 and that third choice is called "crop" in the USA version. I think it is the same thing you are talking about. Clicking on that opens the crop tool. I've only ever chosen the crop tool from the side toolbar, so it's nice to know there is another way to get to it.
It's not really an action, just a tool to trim manually.

Ok. But I don't have to do anything else than click on "Beskär" as it's called in the Swedish version - and all the empty space around the image just disappears. The crop tool I have as an icon in the side bar of tools to the left side. Weird how much they change things from version to version. No wonder I get confused at times when I try and follow tutorials. :D

Well, it's even more frustrating when they take away features in newer versions instead of adding to them. When I had PSE13 I could use a function called "select similar layers" in the layer palette, and that was taken away in PSE19.

I use 2 Wendzine actions for trimming, shadow removal and finding stray pixels. Very helpful tools especially if you do a lot of extractions.

Since I drag all my ellies onto a page from the Photo Bin, PSE converts them to Smart Objects. When I am finished with a layout I like to simplify all the Smart Objects. I used to be able to click on one, right click, select similar layers, and I could rasterize all the layers at once. Now I have to control-click each layer. :(

Oh, yes! I need to find and install my stray pixels action as well. Gee ... I'm never switching programs again ... too much work.

There's a ghost in my machine! When @Nickel told me about Image-Trim, I did it on the photo mask I'd just made. Now I tried again .... and it's just like @AZK says - it opens the crop tool. Someone's messing with my brain ... LOL

PSE5, my first love and I still love it over any other PSE version!!

When I have a cluster in a fullsize psd, and after merging all layers into one layer,
I select the layer, just copy it and open a new document, it automatically makes it the size of the new cluster, and paste it in?
nothing to trim?

pse5 was my first version - loved it - remember i downloaded something to give me layer masks rather than the workaround via adjustment layers . then upgraded to pse 10. I want the new features the interface is just awful and so often when someone mentions something they dislike about it in later versions , i dont have that problem. sure would love to do actions on the fly for example but its not worth it.

when i got my new pc several years ago i didnt even install pse 10 so was forced to use later version of pse ( maybe 16 or 17) for a full month hoping i would get used to it. Did not. Whenever i downlaod a trial version a use it maybe a couple of days just to test out the new stuff and see if got any better but for regular scrapping go back to pse10.

everything takes more clicks to do since pse 11. and i rely on photo bin and since pse 11 it seems they want to phase it out as adobe made it so hard to use

I once used PSE 7.0 , one of the last versions without layer masks. I felt a real whizkid when I could them make work in PSE..;)

ETA: It was on a work pc not at home

I totally missed this conversation! Yes, you can use the Quality Check actions to do trimming. Or, you can also trim using the Alpha Cutter/Saver actions. The Saver portion will export every layer as a trimmed PNG. I did have a standalone Trim action at one point as well. If you want me to track it down and get it in the store, let me know!

I wanted to add that my actions add a small several pixel buffer when trimming so that soft edge pixels don't get clipped, causing a harsh effect.

I use your actions.. especially the hide shadows and trim one. Love it. The stray pixel action is a handy one t have as well especially if you do a lot of extractions.
