Do you have a special meal planned or not cooking at all?

We're staying home for NYE. We're going to have steak and a salad, followed by some appies and chips/dip later in the evening while we're watching a couple of movies. It's been a hectic holiday season and I'm really looking forward to a quiet night with my hubs. I'm starting up Weight Watchers (again) in January so am going to enjoy NYE and not worry about calories.

Tomorrow night will be quiet for us too. I'm cooking a leg of lamb though along with veggies and some good wine.

For more years than I can count, we've gone to a pinochle party on NYE. There is always a smorgasbord of food. I'm bringing the puff pastry/pesto "tree" that has been on the internet. I made it Christmas Eve to see if it would work. It did, and so Part 2 is tomorrow night. For lunch we are meeting our oldest son and his wife to celebrate Jeff's 43rd birthday---yes...a NYE baby.

NYE will be quiet ... just my hubby and I ... long aperitifs with some snacks ... I have a soup of Jerusalem artichokes and parsnips with vegetable chips, then a fillet of lamb with vegetables and gratin dauphinois. the dessert: chocolate moelleux ... at twelve o'clock we drink a glass of champagne with neighbors ....

NYD we celebrate with my mom, my sister and her hubby and my children ... I have a mushroom soup, deer ragout with croquettes and as dessert a piece of sponge cake (from our bakery)

Good luck Rae with the (re)start of weight watchers. In Belgium we started in December with a new programm ... we're counting now smartpoints.

Diane, why is it Old Year's Eve? Ringing out the Old? I kind of like that idea better than the "anticipation" of what great things (/snark-ish-ness there hahah!!) are to come.

I don't do NYE- I always hated it- for as long as I can remember, so much emotional pressure. The kids will be out, Gary and I will watch some TV and I will be in bed by 8pm. Tomorrow I will wake up, have coffee and try to remember to write 2016 on my checks LOL

Yes, the last evening in the old year, stay up late and celebrate (or just get together with family) all evening.
fireworks all over, kids stay up too, or when they are young they go to bed and you wake them up just before 12 so they can see the fireworks.
TV usually has lots of music programs, comedians that do a show about last year, or news reviews of what happened this year, and at midnight the countdown!
I googled eve, meaning the night before, but we say "old year evening"
followed by new years day.
So no more sleep in 2015!!

Having a nice romantic dinner with DH tonight Chateaubriand with Béarnaise sauce and roasted veggies, his most favourite meal of all time. We haven't done this for a few years so I hope I haven't forgotten how LOL. Then probably a movie and hopefully we make it to midnight, but I doubt it!! :becky:
