When I saw that green, I'd focus and patiently wait for the duck to turn just so and turn to vibrant emerald. It worked with the mallard, but the shoveler's head looked black when wet, even in bright sun. I finally learned it was just luck and not patience with the shoveler's color.
Oh, Mary, :cool: Thank you so much! I had a page finished and of course it contained some magic that you can't repeat if you start over. So glad this version earns some creds. First time in 30 years I've ever lost a project. It got mixed up with a corrupt video I downloaded.
Most pelicans were fine when they were a quarter of a mile away, but when we'd turn a corner and they suddenly saw us they were up in the air immediately, even when they were competing with heron and gulls at a rich food source shared by all. On the last day of our trip, as we drove the last stretch far from the mud flats, we agreed the avocet was our favorite bird. It's probably because of their energy and how they take on the color of the sunrise, and also because they never seem to mind our presence at a safe distance.
