What are your scrapbook trends?

There are lots of "trend reports" at this time of year, describing what's going out of style and what new trends to look for in 2026.

Which got me curious: what are YOUR scrapbook trends? There are no right or wrong answers here - just your answers. What did you love in 2025 that you're letting go of now? And what do you think your trends are going to be in 2026?

Your trends can be about anything: colors, your photos, design trends, your style -- anything at all! They could be your personal trends or, if you'd rather, they could be about trends you see in the digi scrap industry.

I'll go first...

In 2025, I noticed that I purchased a bunch of kits because I really liked the colors, or because I really liked some of the elements. I love shiny metal things, moons and stars, and almost anything with wings. I've been known to buy a kit just because I wanted one butterfly or a beautiful moon. But, I've found that I don't always use those kits, and sometimes that element that I just had to have? Well, it doesn't necessarily go with things I have from other kits. So I'm choosing to let go of this particular habit of grabbing up kits willy nilly.

In 2026, what's trending for me is planning what I want to do with a kit BEFORE I buy it. I'm spending some time making thumbnail sketches of one or two layouts, really thinking through how I'd use the kit, what photos I'd choose, and which elements I will actually use. By the time I do a couple of these thumbnail sketches - or fail to get two! - I have a much better idea of how a kit will fit into my world and whether I'll love it as much as I hope I will.

Now it's your turn! I'm curious ... what's trending for YOU?

That's cool, Susie! I wish I did more art journaling types of layouts. Hmmm... Something to put on my to-do list for when I have some time! :multitasking:

Such an interesting question. I have always been a "memory keeper" with my scrapping. If there wasn't a photo that brought back a memory, I didn't really have a reason to scrap it. Even with challenges, I tried to make it a meaningful layout. I find now that I might have a little more time to concentrate on the artistic part of the scrapping. The frustrating part of that is that I haven't scrapped in so long that I really need to re-learn so many things.

I don't do many art journaling layouts and I need to try that out a little more. I need to challenge myself to do more lifts as I try to adopt new styles! Again, this is just a great question Anne...really made me think.

what's trending for YOU?
I don't think I could pinpoint a specific trend, more of a mish-mosh of a bunch of different styles.
I lean toward mostly AJ pages, some fantasy pages, and some memory-keeper types. If I am using a photo, 99.% it is a personal one. I have a hard time scrapping with stock or AI photos-- there isn't that connection that I need.

One thing I did notice with my past year's pages is that my preferred color palette turned to mostly neutrals, with muted greens and blues. I have a few LOs with "color" -- a purple page sticks out like a sore thumb LOL

Hi, Chris! I love that you like having a personal connection or interest in what you're creating.

One thing I did notice with my past year's pages is that my preferred color palette turned to mostly neutrals, with muted greens and blues.
I noticed that I'm using more neutrals in my creations, too. I wonder why? Do you have any ideas? Do you think it might be because there's so much going on in the world, and our eye just needs a place to rest or we need a place to rest?

What an interesting question... I seem to have adopted a more neutral color palette and am developing a dislike to bright and bold colors... so I guess that's a trend...

as for letting go... I'd like to stop overthinking my pages - it takes me forever to decide on the kit/layout/template/style... I am trying to be practical and chronological, but sometimes all I need to stop choosing and start creating - and I'd like to do more of that in 2026.

My style hasn't changed much over the years once I found what aesthetically works for me. One thing I'm letting go, though, of are masked photos. I have tried and tried to like them and use them on my pages because there are scrappers who do them so well, but they're just not for me. I really like my photos framed somehow - either with an actual frame or with a mat/stroke.

I am drawn to natural color palettes - browns, blues, greens. It's mostly because I enjoy taking natural landscape photos. But, I also love blacks because we have a tuxedo kitty and purples because I also love that color. This preference will continue to be a trend for me in 2026. But, I do occasionally attempt to branch out. :)

Since I do a lot of Creative Team LOs, I have learned to use many colors/elements/papers and other things that I might not have chosen. I find it so much fun to experiment with things that are not necessarily what I am drawn to at first glance.

One trend that I won't give up is when the paper is light (white, cream, pale tan), I add a stroke at or near the edge so the elements/photos/clusters are not just laying there with no paper edge to be seen ... I feel there must be a "stopper for the eye" to keep the focus in the LO.

I admire those who make beautiful 'white pages' with small focal points and lots of empty space on the paper... but they are not my style. I can do them, but I keep seeing all that empty space that could be filled.... :floorlaugh: And as my eyes get older.. they don't see all those small things very well. Good thing that I can zoom in on the computer to get a closer look at what is there.

I love colors and like color in the photos to echo one or more colors in the kits. Since I use mainly stock photos, I have the kit preview open then look for photos with colors that will compliment or match what is in the kit. (That is my art background coming into play.)

Jenn/@catgoddess I love that you have found your style and you're sticking to it! Maybe someday when I'm all grown up I'll figure out what my style is! :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh:

Kay/@BrightEyes, I like to experiment and play creatively, a lot. I'm still new here, but I like what you said about getting to experiment and play with lots of things. I'm looking forward to it! :kitty1:

I have noticed that Santa has been trying to eat fewer cookies during the year so he can save up for Christmas. Mrs. Claus has been cooking healthy stuff. The trend for elves seems to be patterned socks but we stick to red and green. If there's a lot of whitespace then Mrs. Claus darns them or knits us a new pair.

My style varies a lot, actually it depends on my mood. I think I see digital scrapbooking as an art form, anyway, I prefer light-colored papers, regardless of whether they're textured or artsy with lots of gesso on them, but white are my favorites.

That's a fascinating train of thought. I hadn't considered the "why." But I think you are right about it. Everything is louder, brighter, "noisier," so it's like my senses and brain are overwhelmed. The purple LO I scrapped was almost jarring to look at.
I am going to keep that in mind as I scrap my way through 2026.

My scrapping is a creative outlet for me at least the mess stays in my head & computer and not strewn all over the sewing room. I'm strictly a memory keeper scrapper, deep personal connection to every picture I'm rescuing from the dark abyss of my various hard drives. It took me 8 non-productive years as a scrapper to figure out I'm not a traditional scrapper, it was a good 8 years connection wise but I'm not traditional anything so coming to Oscraps was like Dorothy stepping into Oz. I don't know that I follow any trends.... chickens, squirrels.. since I'm scrapping for a variety of designers now, I'm more driven by their trends, bright shiny sparkly things ALWAYS get my attention so I'm on overdrive at Christmas, bright colors are who I am, I always say Bohemian by blood , Bohemian by spirit. I struggle with neutrals basically because they aren't color. It's been ok at Christmas because there are bright shiny things. I admire those simple clean whitespace layouts, but I can't do them. I seldom use a template without altering it unless it's a new one. The ones with the tiny pictures are incredible but I'm usually stretching the photos larger. My life is driving my need to get the photos tangible, I print a copy for me & for my grands mom so they always remember "yes" Nana and grampa were in your life a lot when you were growing up. So hasically long story short I didn't answer the question because I'm trying all sorts of different things, march to the beat of my own or the chicken or squirrels drums.

Jeanne, you're so subversive! You non-traditional Bohemian rule breaker, you! :giggle4: :giggle4: :giggle4:

I used to do traditional scrapbooking, too, but having that one printed treasured photo and trying to do it justice was just too much pressure for me. Plus it takes me a while to figure out what I want to use, especially when I can't look at all of my physical stash at once. It takes me FOR-EV-ERRRRRR to finish a traditional layout!

With a traditional scrapbooking layout, once you glue something down, it's down. There's no changing it. What I love about digital scrapbooking is that I can change it as much as I want. Lots of people feel like they either don't go far enough or that they go too far when adding elements. I'm definitely on the side of adding TOO MUCH and what I love about digital is that I can simply turn stuff on and off until I like it. Basically, I can edit out the "TOO MUCH" without destroying the layout! :floorlaugh::floorlaugh::floorlaugh:

Trend? What's that?
I often buy what I like. So, blue pants when I can't find any blue at all! Skinny jeans when wide-leg is in. I look for a peach-colored sweater because the color flatters my hair and complexion. I get the sweater, but then I change my hair color, and nothing matches anymore! It's the same for you with your moon and butterfly, and it's the same for me with scrapbooking collections. We evolve, try new things, and so our needs for the kits change. I'll never be able to do anything with some materials, others I'd love to use again and again, but the fairytale layouts just don't suit me anymore. Unfortunately! My affinity for naive, fairytale-like materials probably stems from the time when I had a website for my dachshunds and I scrapped them into space or onto the ocean floor :angelwhistle: I love everything from ArtAddicks!!! If I had just a little more ambition, I'd write a modern fairy tale book or fairy-tale short stories. Maybe later...
So my ambitions change, and whether I follow a trend depends on whether I like it.

I'll try to answer this super interesting topic as honestly as possible.
My favorite style is artsy, and I think it always will be for ever and ever. I can work in any style, but this is the one that gives me the most satisfaction, without a doubt.
I don´t like to share my personal photos so I try to use stock photos or photos created by AI and normally this is the most difficult part of my layout ... photo. In other words, I don't create something from a photo and tell my story, but I always look for a photo that can tell my story... confusing?
I never plan my layouts, they come from the heart, from what I feel in the moment. Some are done in a few minutes, others take days ... and others are simply deleted. I only stop or publish a layout if I´m totally satisfied with it.
For me to decide to buy a kit, it has to be something different from the others, I never buy more of the same just because I like it.

Great answer, not confusing at all, you explained it beautifully and just put into words what is evident in your creations.

So funny!!! I "darn" the white-space too-- but not with needles. I am DEFINITELY a maximalist!
