The Raven Queen is the Dungeons & Dragons goddess of death, fate, and winter. She rules over the underworld, called the Shadowfell, a mysterious fae plane where things appear to be echoes of the material world. The Shadowfell is a world of gray shades and things appear ethereal or not quite there. The elusive Raven Queen herself never manifests a physical form, only the perception of one, which is why she and her throne are partially translucent here. She wears a mantle or cloak made of iridescent black, purple, and blue raven feathers, left for her as offerings from her raven followers. She also sent the ravens out as messengers and common folk felt ravens were harbingers of doom. The Raven Queen is said to collect the strong emotions, memories, and stories of grief, loss, and tragedy - and sometimes even trinkets from the dead.
