How I did the photo treatment:
First I followed the steps here:
Then I recolored the top layer to a purple tint. Flattened the image, duplicated it and on the top layer did apply an artistic filter (which I can't find in my Swedish-English list of Photoshop terms) - Filter-Artistic-Something with Edges in the name perhaps? Then changed the blend mode on this layer to Color Burn.
