Notes for Photoshop Elements 14

The way I often like to use Artsy Transfers is to drag the ones that catch my eye onto a blank canvas and then throw a photo into the middle to see what happens. It's like fingerpaintingfast, free-form, and theraputic. In this case I used Artsy Transfer #5 followed by #1, with the photo of my daughter landing right in the middle between them. I set the photo to vivid light blending mode and, using inverted masking, blended the photo into a shape that worked. I added Artsy Paper #2 as a background and, using the same finger-painting mindset, dragged in Multimedia Leaves # 2, #5, and #4.

Finishing up my layout was a matter of adding the word art, which I chopped apart so I could reposition the pieces to better fit my design, and then the quote and journaling. To this point the whole thing took me about 40 minutes.

But then, of course, there is always more. After looking at the composition for a while, I wound up adding the second photo because the page is for my daughter's scrapbook and I wanted to show her face and in the years to come, I believe the page will have more meaning to everybody that way. I quickly desaturated the photo, blended it into the background with an Artsy Brush, then added the flower and button to cover up the less-than-perfect extraction. At the end, I came in at a little over an hour and felt a lot better for having taken even a little time to take a creativity break.
Wow! Wish I could scrap that fast! (Heck, I can take 30 minutes to choose the font I like!) ;) Love the abundance of textures and the large wordart! This page will help bring back lots of memories. That is usually my main goal when I scrap.

Thoroughly enjoyed your process notes, Laura...especially the part about fingerpainting! Love how you can fill a page with life and meaning!

love the detailed background with the soft ghostingit adds so much dimension.

Love the double photo, the colors you chose and your unique way you dealt with the title to fit your design. The blend modes are really a crucial element to your LO--fabulous!

Love how it all comes together just because you have the tools and the eye. Your style is wonderful.

Love reading your process notes. I can visualize the whole finger painting thing. Nice work adding the black and white photo. I think it adds interest and balance.
