Journaling reads: Grandmas life was far from ideal. Im amazed that she had one ounce of humanity after what she endured, but she had a heart of gold. She battled her demons, but she did her best to love her family. She spoiled us with her cooking as well as special treats from Grandpas store. She showered us with toys when we were little, and when we grew up, she sent money. Much more than she could afford. She fed cats, squirrels, hoboes...any hungry creature who showed up at her door. She cared for the mother who abused her when she succumbed to Alzheimers. Grandma died before I was wise enough to appreciate her, but I always, always think about her. She demonstrated love not with hugs and kisses but with her unrelenting generosity. She was proof that the heart perseveres no matter what tries to break it.
