For the Day 7 Create a Border Challenge, we were asked to create a border that runs along the enter length of the top of the page and that has at least three dangling elements.
I decided that I wanted to use Palvinka Designs' Winter Memories Collection, because it has a gorgeous blue in it that leans toward purple or cornflower, that I lovingly call "blurple." I found this amazing photo of a frosty tree that had a background in a similar shade.
I started by applying a photomask to the tree and positioning it on the canvas. I found an artsy paper I liked and I added some white overlays: snowflakes on both side of the masked photos and some writing between the large 8-pointed star and the photo.
Next, I began creating the border along the top of the page. I'm not so great a clusters, so this was a challenge for me! Although I am learning. I combined several elements: greenery, pine boughs, berries, flowers, bells, ornaments, a small ribbon, holiday lights strung on baker's twine, a snowman, and the large star. I think that the snowman, star, and twinkle lights all count as dangling.
Then, I added a glow from Anna Aspnes' FotoGlow Mix No. 1 behind the twinkle lights, changing the glow to match the bulb color. I wanted to light them up! To increase the contrast, I slid one of the solid colored background in between the background paper and my border, and used a gradient mask to blend it into the main background paper, just about where the twinkle lights are. This gives a bit more contrast to make the lights shine. Finally, I added the title: Magic of Winter.
