"Only the past is another country," they say, and in many ways, that sentiment captures the essence of our years in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. When we first got married and moved there, it was as if we had stepped into a new world—one full of promise and discovery. For 21 years, Luxembourg wasn't just our home; it became a part of us. The rolling landscapes, the serene beauty of the Mosel River, the vineyards that seemed to stretch forever, and the sense of peace that permeated everyday life—all of these things painted the backdrop of our lives.
Luxembourg's high quality of living was more than just a slogan; it was something we experienced daily. The efficiency of the healthcare system provided us with a sense of security, knowing we were always in good hands. Life there was smooth, orderly, and rich in so many subtle ways.
Now, exactly fot 4 years back in Belgium, it's hard not to feel a pang of longing for those days. Belgium has its charms, of course, with our family nearby, its own unique beauty and culture, but Luxembourg... Luxembourg feels like a dream we once lived. It's as though we've returned from a journey to a distant land, and even though we're back on familiar soil, the memories of our life in Luxembourg linger, like echoes from another world.
We miss it. We miss the landscapes that took our breath away, the rhythm of life that became second nature, and the comfort of knowing that for those two decades, we were part of something truly special. Belgium isn't bad, far from it—but the past, our past in Luxembourg, sometimes feels like it belongs to another country entirely, one that will always hold a special place in our hearts.
