My love of all things Day of the Dead started with my best friend. She was so excited to show me socks or shoes or anything with sugar skulls printed on them. Her passion for the art, which I always found to be very creative, got me into it. And it makes perfect sense, to dance and focus on life and fun in the face of death. I love it more every year as I get older. It’s a time for me to enjoy memories of all of my family and friends who are no longer with me, and especially new losses. In October our friend Pezz from Durham in the U.K. (a sniper) was killed in Ukraine and is my latest to celebrate.
