Generations

Had an idea in my head, but this was where I ended up. I'm not really happy with it because of the different qualities of the photos, had a hard time working with the old photos. I have so few photos of my husband's family, thus it's very heavy on my side.

Process
Artsy papers 2 and 3 from APP Family were used for the foundation of the page. A layer mask was added to paper 3 and using the gradient tool, the two papers were blended together, creating a texture on both edges. The images were extracted using the pen tool (PS22). Custom shadows were added to add some dimension. They were then stacked, moved around, resized, moved around again (keeping the heads in proportion). Family WordTransfers were used to cover the gaps caused by the different extractions. Transfers, overlays and more word transfers were added. The page was completed by adding label words, stitchez and dimensional embellishments.

PS This is an over simplification of working on this on and off for several days, switching out photos, moving photos, etc.

The photos stacked that way is great! Works lovely with the family pack supplies you used in the background.

This is great, what a job to get all the photos: black/white, sepia and color together, super!

Fantastic!!!! I was looking at a similar 3D display on Pinterest and thought I would give it a try but I've just saved the inspiration along with all the other 'things to make' inspiration  Good for you taking the time to create this piece of art!
I've started putting my old photographs through the photo enhancer software on My Heritage.com. Sometimes it is brilliant and I've had great results, sometimes not, it uses Ai I think. Might be worth trying the free trial to see what you think.

Wow! I can't imagine how much work is in all those extractions. It looks very balanced. Great design!

What a wonderful idea! Bracketing the family with the girls in dresses is really grounding. I can see how you'd struggle with this--my issue would be directionality; I'd be going for something three-dimensional, almost a tunnel effect. Not gonna happen on a flat page! Had the same issue with the Grand-and-fan layout I recently did, when I used two photos to try to create a 3-d effect on the paper. I wasn't all that happy with mine either. Still, yours is an excellent execution and the concept of family really comes through. Well done! Onward!

This is really amazing, such a great idea, I like the way it moves forward into color. Must have been some work! And great title!
