Great Big Adventure

Pencil was a house cat when the kids adopted her years ago, and has been a house cat ever since. Her experience with the Great Outdoors when she slipped through the door with the dogs was terrifying for all. She managed to weather the night safely and was back at home at dinnertime the next day, though very unsettled.

To make this layout, I free-hand blended my photo into the Artsy Paper using my favorite blending Brushes; for more depth and texture, I added the text and wordArt, then piled on the pumpkins, using layers from them to soften my blended edges in the blanket area. I recolored the wordART and gave it a stroke to make it pop. I finished with the Script Tease Overlay, recolored, duplicated and blended with Overlay mode to deepen. There were some fun artstrokes in the second part of the Artplay Palette, so I added them as well as some other transfers/overlays.
The large photo really sets the tone of relief in finding Pencil. The leaves and textures enhance the story of her adventure in the Great Outdoors. So happy for the family that she was found!!

Love that large photograph and the beautiful autumnal colours! I know how everyone feels - Although we have no pets now we have had many cats in our life so we offered to look after my cousin's cat (not a house cat) last Christmas as they headed to Boston and after keeping him in for a week until he became familiar with us, I confidently let him out, ignoring my husband shaking his head. Of course he didn't come back despite me walking up and down the lane that runs behind our house (in the middle of the night) shaking his food. I was ill - couldn't sleep for worrying about ruining my cousin's Christmas never mind her life - how could I tell her I had lost her cat!!!! Of course he re-appeared the next morning bold as brass and is returning again this December for his Christmas holidays :)

love the blended photo and journaling. glad the story has a happy ending!

Poor Pencil, and everyone else, must have been scary! I just love the look of this, such a bold yet soft composition - great blended photo and love those pumpkins - I am so often too literal with my embellishments - think I'll put pumpkins on my next page no matter what it's about :)

Pencil was probably wondering what all the fuss was about. But, having been on the other side of this story, I know every emotion. We even purchased night cameras for outside to figure out if our kitty was coming out at night. Once we figured out his schedule, we waited in chairs near an open door for him to come home. He seemed relieved to be back with his buddies and have food but I think he thought we were simply helicopter parents.
Terrific page!!

We're in the same position with the dogs we'll be tending when our new grand is being born. NO WAY am I letting them run free, even though I've been told it's okay. Leashes all the way for me!
