Your button is so interesting and keeps my eye moving. I never knew these grew in sand. But I've seen them at 13,000 ft plus elevation on my Jeep adventures, when they only get to be maybe two inches across and two-three inches tall. So they're universal and I think they also universally make a lot of us smile because they're not really seen as a weed.
