Journaling reads:
Daddy, I just can't find the words in English to tell you how much I love you. They just don’t exist. It’s true: Dad is a girl’s first hero. You are certainly mine! Always have been and always will be not for what you have done but because of who you are - a man of worth and integrity. I can honestly say when my dad didn’t have my hand, he had my back. You were always there. Always! No Matter what you loved me. No matter what.
Dad, thank you for teaching me how to be a man even though I’m a girl. A lot of my girlfriends didn’t understand, but the lessons are just as important for us. Life has a lot of pitfalls. I never dreamed I’d be a mostly single mother. But life happens and it fell to me to teach the boys what you had taught me. They are still growing into being who they will ultimately be, but I think they are wonderful young men, subject to youthful mistakes. They tell me that moms and dads know a lot. Grandpas know everything. They are grown but still believe I have eyes in the back of my head. And you didn’t just help put man on the moon – you hung it!
I know this simple truth: no matter how old a girl gets she never stops needing her dad – and we never stop being daughters.
Until the end of time, Daddy!
The little face at the bottom is my kid sister. She is almost 20 years my junior and a joy! The highlighted portion is my father. This photo was made in 1978. He is now 87 and I am so blessed that he is still with us.
After deciding on the spotlighted area, I made the original photo B&W so it would appear smudged on because it’s rather grainy.
The background is paper 01 blended over paper 9 in overlay mode, with stamp 02 and stamp 05 sandwiched in between. The B&W photo is then blended over that at 36% opacity. The rest is just playing, except for the word art. It took a while to get the words in place and took more time than all the rest.
