Another rainy day and 10 ft. deep mudslides in Glenwood Canyon closed I-70 indefinitely. When we got to the top of Cottonwood Pass just at sunrise, we met a search and rescue team and there was a light rain. I was doing fine at 12,126 ft., but only did half of the .2 mi hike.

After a high or moderate severity fire the ability of the soil to absorb water decreases from around several inches per hour to perhaps just one-third of an inch per hour. Any additional rainfall becomes surface runoff, and a rainstorm of only one inch per hour can generate 1.5 million cubic feet of runoff per square mile.
These blues! Stunning photos and love the way the one on the right is "hanging"! Also like the vellum for journaling without blocking what's beneath - two liftable ideas ;-)
I didn't know that about the rain after fires. So it's a double whammy...the fire, then the mud. Yikes. I too like the "suspenders" holding the photo on the right page...so cool!
