I was in first or second grade when I read my first chapter book. I remember the exact spot in the library where I found the book with such an intriguing name: The Invisible Island, by Dean Marshall. I never forgot the book, and as an adult, wished I had a copy. For years I searched bookshelves in antique and thrift stores, but never found it. Then along came the Internet. I did searches for several years before finally finding a copy. It was several hundred dollars, for of course, it was a collectible, and out of print. I continued to search from time to time, and finally found a copy for $70. Dave encouraged me to buy it, which I did. I hugged the book and shed a few tears when it arrived. I set it on a shelf to admire for several weeks, then finally opened it again to read it, nearly over 50 years after the first time. Every page was a thrill.
For several more years, I searched for other books by Dean Marshall (a woman, by the way), and if any were even listed, the prices were over the moon.
But perseverance has paid off! I recently found The Silver Robin, and at a comparatively bargain price of $23. I cant wait for it to arrive.
