We left our hotel just after six and got to the refuge at six-thirty. I made a video to record the amazing sounds of a thousand cranes. One other older couple showed up and watched the birds from their car. We drove out of the refuge right at sunrise. It was 36°F but our fingers froze.
We get pairs of Sandhill cranes here routinely (sometimes with their babies) and even two are quite loud. I can't begin to imagine what it must have like to see a thousand of them! That must have been an amazing experience. You got some fabulous photos. I love the arrangement on the page and the frosty colors as well. Gorgeous work.
