Bodie 1937 Chevy

There is just something about rusty old cars left to the elements, a reminder to times past. My mind goes racing, thinking about a time when this car was someones lifeline to the world. Bodie, a gold era town, located 13 miles down a dusty bumpy, and twisted, dirt road, at one time full of life, with a population of almost 10,000 people but by the time this 37 chevy was in use, the town was in decline with a population less than 200. It is hard to image the town back them, but this old car and the old structures that are left in town are reminders that it was once full of life.

Outside Kit by Erica Zwart

The Process: This page didnt start out anything like I thought it would. It kind of evolved. I began with the car, which was placed on a textured background paper from ArtPlay Solids Adventure. I always keep a duplicate photo hidden, but linked to the photo I am working on. I masked out all the area surrounding the car except for the grassy area. I played around with curve, but then duplicated the photo, lightened this new (top layer) photo to give more detail in the really dark areas of the car. I then masked out this photo, but slowly began painting areas of the car back in where I wanted to lighten it up. I made another copy of the car, and placed it on top of the other two, and this one I tinted. I then began masking out some portions of the photo until I was happy with the effect. I ended up bringing down the opacity of this photo layer. I then created a blank layer, and with a pale green color, painted the grassy area. I then used blend mode color to give the grass the pale green color. I wanted to give the car a base, so I began placing various transfers from AP Across the Miles. I LOVE the one with the portion of the embossed frame, so I placed it such that it framed the back end of the car. I placed a few other transfers from the same kit behind the car, and then added a few of the WaterColor FotoBlends on top of these transfers. I changed these fotoblendz to a deep blue/green color, lowering their opacity in some cases. I placed the fotoglow, and liked the fact that one of the glows extended above the transfers to the upper left, but the fotoglow also extended a bet below the car, and gave it a nice glow. I added various portions of the multimedia frames, masking out the portions that extended behind the frame. The butterfly from the MM frames was placed in the upper left of the page. I finished up the car area of the page by added the loopdaloop, and then be adding a number of both black and white spatters and lines from various different strokes brushsets, and some striptease brush work.
To finish up the area where I had placed the butterfly, I added another watercolor fotoblendz, a loopdaloop, urbanthreadz, and the WordART. I wanted to add more texture, so I took a paper with a grid pattern, and placed it just under the car photo layers. I placed the paper on Blend Mode linear burn, thus removing all but the grid lines. I then used a layer mask to mask out all the paper, and then with a soft brush at a low opacity, began painting in areas around the car, and around the butterfly elements.
To finish up the page I added the two edge overlays, one recolored medium brown, and then the other in the deep blue/green. I placed a little Bodie 1937 Chevy under the car in a simple font. And was DONE!!!

An intense process with an amazing outcome!!! Beautiful artwork, Joanie!

Totally love this...reminds me a challenge someplace a week or so ago with a beautiful old white pick up... I like your very thoughtful journaling also... and totally agree about a good challenge!!! You rock!!!!

OK... just read your process, and I feel like such a piker, not to mention totally worn out!!! Yikes... I am usually happy with a few blend modes... which of course does not mean I don't spend hours on every page..."playing"
