A Little Family History

This was inspired by this week's Anna Lift...the gold leaves and monochromatic color scheme, as well as a little from Adryane too, https://ozone.oscraps.com/gallery/showphoto.php?photo=259471

Journaling: This photo, circa 1900, of my great-grandparents, James Allen (white hair) and Matilda Maples (on his right) Kennamer, was taken after they moved with the four youngest of their twelve children from Alabama to Texas in 1898. The young man on the fence with the guitar is my grandfather, Mose J Kennamer, age 18 at the time of the move. The others in the photo are family I cant accurately identify. What I find surprising is that my great-grandparents would make this move in their old age; letters written in the late 1800s by Matilda indicate they gave serious consideration to the ramifications of their move but had no fear of the unknown nor did they let old ties encumber their decision. James Allen died in 1904, Matilda in 1908. I photographed the tombstone that marks their burial site at Clover Hill Cementary, outside Quitman, Texas, last summer.

But then maybe I shouldn't be surprised. My husband and I moved across country to be near grandchildren...and soon I'll add my first granddaughter to my three grandsons:)
