another story for my project ...
For most people, there are certain sounds and smells that evoke memories of the past. For me, it is the smell of eucalyptus. Eucalyptus reminds me of a time long ago when my mother would take me, my sister and my brother to Shadow Ranch Park. There, she would spread out a blanket under one of the large eucalyptus trees and we would have a picnic lunch of egg salad sandwiches on egg bread. After lunch, we would lie back on the blanket and rest. While we looked up through the branches of the eucalyptus tree, my mother would read to us. She was happy then and so were we. Those times were sweet and filled with laughter. Sometime later, life changed. We stopped going to the park. My mother stopped reading to us and, sadly, she stopped laughing with us. Over the years, I have walked by many a eucalyptus tree and smelled its fragrant leaves. Each time, I am reminded of our days at the park and if I am very lucky and the breeze is just right, I can hear the sound of my mothers laughter.
