When the Music Fades

You were the family’s melody, both in song & piano key.
You pushed me on the swing, taught me everything
of making tacos.
In my summer stays I was impressed
and so amazed when you bought me that dress!
I remember The Races and learning the paces of how to date.
The cheerful “Chatterbox” sister’s song is now quiet,
The keys are silent... ...
So swiftly it settled in, bringing
changes none of us ever imagined.
How is it possible that we can’t even talk?
It’s been over a year since I heard your voice.
You don't speak at all.
Now you exist without a choice; walk wobbly and fall.
You are thin and so frail.
This is Parkinson’s ugly tale.
Our wishes are fading along with your life,
And I don’t know what to pray for you?.
I love you, Debbie.:heartpumpred:
Sister portraits & watercolor girl are my work, unaltered.
Photos are of past 10 years showing progression of this horrid disease. She fell this past Sunday and injured her face. :sad2:

Amanda, this is such a beautiful and touching page for your precious sister. I love the processed B&W photos. I lost my baby sister, Debbie, in a car accident when she was only 27. I'm so looking forward to being with her again someday, hearing her voice again, and especially her wonderful laugh. (((Hugs))) ♥

I am speechless, Amanda. Your page, your poem, your photos are incredibly sweet, touching, and heartbreaking all at once. The essence of art and art journaling, along with all of the emotion it entails, is captured perfectly here.
Big hugs to you :hug1:

Oh Amanda, this was hard to read (beautifully written) and I can only imagine how hard it is to live. What a touching tribute to the bond of sisterhood. The grieving girl tears at my heart. I can feel the anguish and torment of what's happening to your sweet sister.

Thank you. I debated whether to share her recent photos, but when put alongside of the ones 5 or more years ago, it really tells the story. 3 years is how quickly this disease blew up her life- and dementia is also now a part. I am numb when I think about it most of the time. I think when she passes I will struggle more than I did/am with Dad, because I at least got to spend some time with him and have those important conversations. Thanks again for the thoughts. Her fall prompted me to try to face it all through this layout.

Amanda, I'm sure it wasn't easy to share, but by sharing, you've received support and prayers from others, and that is very important, considering all you and your sister are going through. There hasn't been much dementia in my family, so I can only imagine what it must be like going through that, losing a loved one bit by bit. Continued prayers and hugs, my friend. :praying2:
