CHEERY O
:brrr: What a change in the weather.
(and I won't complain, I promise I won't complain. Awww, heck, you know I am gonna complain about the cold, who am I trying to kid?)
I woke to the first hard frost of the season. And yes, we were close to 80* just a few days ago. But I have one thing to be happy about with these cold mornings-- my dad's car has heated seats!!!!!! dance4 I can't drive it yet, we have an appt to get it registered on Tuesday morning, but let me tell you, those seats are going to be amazing.
I had a few moments of emotional rollercoastering, but my dad seemed absolutely fine with his decision, which was a big plus. Sam had to work so only Scott came over. He and my dad were having a great time talking. I think seeing that helped me, too. When my dad gets very quiet and looks frail, that bugs me. When he is laughing at Scott's antics, he looks like a completely different person.

I have a field trip this morning and have my heavier-weight leggings on and will be all layered up. I am not sure if I'll be with the 4th graders or the 5th graders, so I ended up reading up on both lesson plans.
I'm watching the weather for the weekend. I am leading the forest bathing hike on Sunday morning but if it is going to be as rainy and windy as they are forecasting, I bet the program will be canceled. The last place to be in high winds is in the forest. Maybe not the last place to be, but not the best place for sure.

Let me wrap this up so I can do personals and then get ready for work.

Good morning ladies! I am sending you my Daily O from retirement! Ooo la la! :spinningchair: I have PSE installed but that re-learning curve is going to take a bit...ugh. I got the template open this morning but I can't figure out how to open layers. However, I did just remember the word layer as I was sitting here typing this so I'm sure it will all come back sooner or later. I also discovered that SmugMug is no longer doing auto imports from my phone's photos. So there is that... So much to do in retirement. :lol23:

Syd made it home last night. Today we have a family only visitation for my sister-in-law. My niece asked me to put together a photo board. So that is today's job. And I am delivering my computer back to work this morning. I did not get up to an alarm clock this morning. But I was up at 4:30. Oh my...that needs to stop.

Yes, it will be easier on everyone if your dad is comfortable with his decision.....not that he won't have a change of heart from time to time, however! He will just need the loving support of his family during those times! Glad he and Scott have a great relationship!
We are at 50* this morning!

@LSlycord I am not 100% what to say to you today. So many different emotions. Congrats on retirement, and yay for the new laptop and scrap time. Sooo happy that you'll have both kids home today. Yet, I can't imagine the sense of loss and shock you have over your SIL.
I hope that you remember to take care of yourself as you process everything you are dealing with. I hear that scrap therapy can be really helpful. ;)
Hugs and more hugs!
Cait's tattoo is big but keep in mind that she is only 5' and her thigh is smaller than the average person's. Her tattoo would look small on a normal human body LOL!

@BrightEyes Did you have any luck seeing any balloons overhead?
Drat about the Cuddle Duds- I have a few of their tops and I love them. I wear them under my staff t-shirts in the winter and they keep me comfy (or not as cold as I would be otherwise LOL)
I'm glad that your back was better but I really hope you didn't push it with changing the bed and rotating the mattress.

@BoatLady Weis has a ton of stuff happening all of the time. The website is outdated and they are working on a new version. I'll link you up with the new one once it it live.
hahah!! Yes, our forest bathing is nothing like the primitive ones!

@AK_Tracy Is your power back on? Sure hope so! I can't remember, do you have a fireplace for heat if the power is out? 54° is way too cold inside.
I'm going to have to make sure we have enough stuff in the house in case our power goes out Sunday-Monday.

@vickyday I hope both our scrap mojos come back soon. My brain is completely dead, no creativity whatsoever. :(
I'll have to have Caitlyn send me another photo of the Rat-too.
That is so exciting that the roof is ready to go! I am really looking fwd to seeing it all "finished." (quotation marks are b/c it will probably never be 100% finished :giggle4: )

@Nonni F You crack me up. Yes, you made it under the wire. Hope to see you more often, at least for the next few days. :rotfl:

Vicky! I hope you have nothing planned for today. You were non-stop yesterday!

Time to run.... HAGD!

HAPPY RETIREMENT!!!!!

You are so right! Mark will NEVER really be finished with this cabin "project" LOL! He already has plans of adding another room "for storage" LOL! After that he will probably move his bed down there! He is so funny! Once he gets going on a project there is no stopping him! He couldn't work through the summer due to the excessive heat and humidity, so he is making up for lost time!
Unfortunately, I have to return some screws we got yesterday when we got the tin because they are too long. And I want to go and look for some tops for some new wide-legged pants I got the other day when Ilene and I went shopping. After I finish here, I'm getting dressed to leave.

Good Morning,
Couldn't sleep after Mark left, so I got up at 6. Put the dishes away from the dishwasher, made some coffee (it's growing on me again, LOL), finished my Bible study for our ladies' meeting on Saturday, and am getting ready to get dressed to leave and return some screws Mark got yesterday when we got the tin for the cabin porch roof. They were too long, so I have to exchange them for shorter ones.

Then I want to go shopping from some tops to go with the wide-legged pants I got when Ilene and I went shopping the other day.

When I get back home.......who knows!

Fixed eggplant for supper last night. You slice it into 1/2" rounds, smear mayo on both sides, dip them in Panko seasoned bread crumbs and bake them at 350 for 20 minutes on each side. I added some other seasonings, too. They were OK. Not my favorite. If it were not for the bread crumbs and spices I probably would not have eaten them! Next time I will remove the skin as the recipe called for, but I thought it would stabilize the rounds while I prepared them! The skin was pretty rubbery and not edible! With the eggplant we had chicken flavored rice. That was good!

OK, I need to get dressed and get on the road.
Hope everyone has a great Friday!

@faerywings those heat warmers are really something when winter comes! You are going to love that! I'm so glad that Scott was able to make it over to see your dad. Grandkids must take a good 10 years off of the way grandparents feel...maybe more like 25! I looked up the temp and it is 59* here in Iowa...and now I remember that I had learned how to do the degree symbol. Have to go look that up again. And, yes, I had forgotten that Cait would have a very small thigh!;) Love you for all of the support. So very, very glad to be back here.

@BrightEyes I have always wanted to try Cuddle Duds. I'm glad that you described them...I don't think I want anything that feels like a second skin. I'd be too claustrophobic. I do need to find some nice loose flannel pjs though. Everything that I have is for summer. Haven't needed winter for quite a few years. And I made Syd's bed with fresh sheets before she got home last night and I thought that was a chore. Rotating the mattress...whooooo. That might be a second or third week (or never?) week of retirement thing.

@vickyday I love hearing that Mark is still working on the cabin. What a labor of love that has been. Sounds like you had a very good day yesterday. What a treasure Ilene is to you and you to her.

@BoatLady I actually found that lots of stuff came over from my Microsoft account when I plugged it in. I do know that some things didn't so I'll sort that out this weekend...or next week...or whenever I want to I guess. :lol23::lol23: Do I understand correctly that you have an upcoming surgery. I hope the traveling bug that you caught is behind you now.

@Nonni F I guess summer really is over. Not sure that I'm ready.

@AK_Tracy I hope that the power is back on this morning. Syd and I took a cruise to Alaska in May of '24. Fell in love. However, I'm not sure I'd be excited about the season you have ahead of you!

Ok all...I'm off to find a box of pictures. ((hugs))

Morning, all. Oh, I slept so well last night!!! Yes, I got the mattress rotated (just left it on the frame and pushed/pulled it around 180*). Can't flip it over as it has a pillowtop only on one side as the bed is an adjustable one. LOVE THE MATTRESS COVER.... it is fluffy Serta one. Changed to the Winter comforter and it with the sheet was perfect for these cooler nights. We had rain last night (less than an hour) and was a cool morning (56*). Another day with no balloons in my area though they are flying. Need to get dressed and run my errands.

@faerywings - I have some of the Cuddle Duds winterwear and they are much thicker than the PJs I just got. Love the winter-underwear. Won't be long before I will pulling out the long-johns.
@LSlycord - I agree... I much prefer looser fitting winter PJs. Only have 2 pair of closer-fitting ones and I hardly ever wear them. Yes, I bet you will have to stock up on winter PJs now that you have moved from Florida. HAPPY RETIREMENT!!!

Know that autumn has arrived as I have been wearing long pants the past few days... and even had a fleece throw around my shoulders once I was dressed!!! The furnace tune-up is next Tuesday - then I can turn the heat on after that when it is needed. Glad the house is well insulated so managed without it so far.

Good Morning!!!!

Gonna use Chris favorite emoji here, :brrr: it was 30° when I got up an hour ago. Have no fear, its warming up :floorlaugh::floorlaugh::floorlaugh: its now 31°

my dad's car has heated seats!!!!!! dance4
You will love this feature. They're not just for cold either. When your back aches or your hips, turn that puppy on low and feel the muscles relax a smidge. I've turned mine on and smashed the lumbar support into my back and then returned it to normal and drove home. It can be amazing on the over done days. And its amazing on freezing cold days too.
I am sending you my Daily O from retirement! Ooo la la! :spinningchair:
Congratulations on Retirement!!!! Dont be surprised when you forget what day of the week youre on and what time it is. After a week of retirement hubby forgot what day of the week it was. He kept asking me where I was going. Well dear its NOT Saturday and I still have to get to places and do things LOL. I hope that the slower pace allows you the time to process everything that happened this week. :heartpumppink: Hugs as you sort photos and memories.
Is your power back on? Sure hope so! I can't remember, do you have a fireplace for heat if the power is out? 54° is way too cold inside.
Yes, 27 hours later we finally have power!!! Soon as it came on we scrambled, filled all water jugs/bottles, flushed and swiped toilets, tossed all the trash and quick vacuum the floors. Started the laundry and dishwasher. It was a flurry of activity. Oldest brought home dinner so we didn't have to cook. Was crazy. No, we dont have a fireplace. We talk about it every year, a wood stove, but we dont have a great place to put it and vent it and we dont want to cut the roof at this time. We did borrow a small (camping size) generator so we could plug in the fridge and freezers and cool them back down.
Syd and I took a cruise to Alaska in May of '24. Fell in love. However, I'm not sure I'd be excited about the season you have ahead of you!
It is beautiful and I am weird (which you will soon learn :giggle4:). I enjoy the winters and snow. As long as I can get out and enjoy the season its amazing. I love my wool sweaters so it needs to be cool to wear them LOL

Today is a busy day of catching up on all the things that didn't happen with the power out. Like dishes, laundry and cleaning the house. Its amazing how much sand/dirt is coming in on shoes this fall. Feels like more then normal but probably not. My goal is to maybe get one more challenge done but we shall see. Off to feed the dogs. Have a wonderful day Ladies!
