Daily Ooos: July 5-6: Weekend Edition

Good morning and happy weekend! I was out here, wandering around the forum looking for the Daily Ooos Weekend Thread just now. Couldn't find it anywhere! Well, no kidding because *today* is Saturday, not Sunday. This past week pretty much destroyed any sense of a daily routine that I could cling to. Caitlyn took this entire week as vacation time, a wedding on a Thursday, Tom off yesterday, and I cleaned for my friend on a Friday. I was so confused! LOL
(Shhhh-- I heard you talking behind my back that I am always more than a little confused :floorlaugh: )

The day flew by me and I can't say that I got a lot accomplished but I got a few things off my list. Hope to get a little more done this morning. This afternoon I am heading down to my BFFs. She asked me to keep her company when her mom was still in the hospital. Now that her mom is getting some nutrition, it doesn't feel as dire and we'll still have a good time catching up. Gary pretty much wiped himself out making it through the wedding so he's staying here. I am looking forward to tomorrow -- no plans to do anything!

I think I am pretty much peopled out. Even though last week was spent with people I love, I can use a break ;)

Hugs to you all!

@vickyday I got more teary at this wedding than at Caitlyn's.
The cucumber salad looks so good! That's yellow bell peppers in it? I bet Caitlyn would like that if she wants a switch from her cucumbers and hummus.

@BrightEyes I think a nap and movies are a great idea.
Congrats to your sister on the great-grandbaby! ♥

@AK_Tracy if you went out in the sun, I hope you only stayed for a little while, your skin must be super sensitive. Can you use sunscreen or will that mess up the scabs and healing?
Silly bird! I hope it was a one-and-done and he flew to someone else's house already. Preferably someone who deserves to be annoyed at 5 am. :haloslip:

I think I could stay home every day and not miss being around people.....basically.

Yes, yellow bell pepper, little, snack-sized cucumbers, cherry tomatoes and I added onion (my daughter's family doesn't do onion). The dressing is equal parts sugar, oil and vinegar. Mark loved it! I used stevia instead of sugar and x-virgin olive oil and white vinegar.

Good Morning,
Up earlier this morning. Had to take some Tylenol around 6:30 and couldn't go back to sleep. So when Mark hopped out of bed, I did, too, at 7:00.

No plans for the day other than taking my ring for the 6-month cleaning. Mark wants to go to see his aunt in rehab after she fell and hurt herself pretty good! She is in her 80's and is unsteady on her feet.

I got week 1 AJ challenge done and am working on mine for week 3 in draft mode.
On to some other challenges. I haven't done any designer challenges in a bit. I think I will check them out!

Yesterday was very quiet for us. Not even many fireworks going off in the neighborhood.

Have a great weekend!

Morning, all. Hope those who celebrated the 4th had a good day. My plans changed... DD#1 called and asked if it was okay for her and her son come over with hamburgers, hot dogs, fries and fixings and have supper here. Broke out the George Forman grill and fixed a fruit salad and had ice cream for dessert.. After supper we watched the New York fireworks show on TV plus heard some fireworks close by so stepped out front to see vehicles lining every spot along the curbs on my street... and 2 neighbors setting off fireworks in the street. DD and son decided to head home about 30 minutes later just as the local fireworks displays were starting... Must have been 7 or 8 large ones going off. Standing on my driveway - we were surrounded by them filling the skies!!! WOW!!! Right after DD and son left, 6 more neighbors were setting off their own fireworks in the street. Those were "safe" ones that only went less than 10' in the air. I had to come inside as the smoke from them caused me to start coughing. I don't ever remember having so many neighbors having their own fireworks close by... Most of them had stopped by 10 PM so was able to fall asleep by then.

I'm with you, @faerywings - Chris... it feels like it should be Sunday... not Saturday! And the base pharmacy is closed on Monday so meds won't be filled until after 2PM on Tuesday... No way will I go over there that late in the day and then deal with 'going home' traffic. So... it will be Wednesday for the pickup of meds and commissary run. Hope to get it done early as temps will be into the high 90's all next week!!! UGH!!!

I did manage to finish printing out the LOs for hubby's Memory Album and got them sorted and into the albums. Had to start #4 album with Jan 1, 2025 as #3 album was full. Now to figure out where in the family room bookcase I can put them. Guess this my summer to rearrange things and winnow out unwanted/unneeded stuff. ;) Right now, the albums are on the side cabinet counter but am out of space with the addition of album #4...

Time to close the house up... it is already 75*F outside!!! BBL

Good Morning!

Yep, I am with you. Are you sure its only Saturday and not the middle of next week or Sunday? Son was home from work since Wednesday and its thrown everything off. I keep looking at the phone to see what day we really are on. Okay, phone and computer confirm what you are sayings, its Saturday. I think.
@AK_Tracy if you went out in the sun, I hope you only stayed for a little while, your skin must be super sensitive. Can you use sunscreen or will that mess up the scabs and healing?
Oh I went in the sun. I dont use sunscreen as there are things in 90% of them that I am allergic to and so I dont use sunscreen. Its never really an issue for me but oh man. We haven't had this hot of a summer in so long, over three years, and I sat outside reading my book for four hours. I'm a tad pinker then I have ever been. I tan, not burn, but yesterday I over did it. Today is suppose to be the same so I will for sure wear my hat and limit my time in direct sunlight. It was total bliss yesterday though. I didn't even cook, oldest did that and we had ribs and beans and salad. My nephew visited. I read my book. It was wonderful, relaxing and I am still warm. Had the window open all night, dropped down to mid 40's and felt amazing. Suppose to be back up to low 70°s today.

Sounds like a nice plan, low key and unstressful. Does Mark's Aunt still live at home? I bet she will enjoy the visit.
I don't ever remember having so many neighbors having their own fireworks close by... Most of them had stopped by 10 PM so was able to fall asleep by then.
Yeah that they were all done by bedtime. One advantage in AK is you cant see fireworks in July so we didn't have any going off at all. They save them for New Years. Then we hear them for hours. But what fun your neighbors all set off a display for you and you didn't have to pay a cent to watch fireworks.

Today has as few plans as yesterday and will be amazing but I will be attempting to stay out of the sun. Its perfect swimming temps but ugh scabs. The cool lake waters sounds so amazing. I am still heated through from yesterday and the house didn't really cool off. Even with the window open is almost 70 in the house. This is when winter is easier, you can always put more clothes on, but summer, you can only take so many off and still be decent. :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh: :floorlaugh:

Off to get more :coffeedrinker: Have a wonderful day!

Good morning everyone, We're all confused about the day here too. We had Thursday and Friday off, so today must be Sunday or something. We had a nice day yesterday at Mark's work party. It was fun, met Mark's co-workers wife for the first time. We hit it off super well, and I see a nice friendship there. Came home before the party became roudy, and were home safely with the dogs for a quiet night of scrapping for me and TV for Mark. Today Mark is working in the garage, I've got some housework and will help in the garage. We don't have to go anywhere until Monday except for church tomorrow and we're good!

@AK_Tracy I laughed out loud (in the nicest way) about your 5 am stupid bird. Do you have mockingbirds up there? If so, I predict them to be the culprit! I hope he let you sleep in this morning! We don't feel the days getting shorter here just yet. Soon enough though.

@faerywings So glad to hear your friends mom is doing better.
@BrightEyes your neighborhood sounds like quite the place to be for fireworks!
I think I could stay home every day and not miss being around people.....basically.
Amen! When I was home taking care of my mom, and was never around people, getting out was huge. Now that I'm out all day, everyday peopling, being home is ever more special!

Hope you all have a great day!

Nope, no mockingbirds. Thinking maybe a crow. Thankfully he wasn't here again this morning. Hopefully he was just angry at something and has decided to move on. I dont feel the days getting shorter yet either, just looked at the weather app to see what was changing. The sun is up when I get up and its up when I go to bed, so its just always sunny/light out and that's okay. Soaking it up for those days we only have 5 hours light in winter. Its crazy how drastic the amount of light can be up here in the far north.

It's a Sunday that (I think) feels like a Sunday to me. I woke up to the birds singing and it was awesome not feeling the need to roll out of bed immediately. I kinda did anyway, it is my Actonel day- medication that I have to take on an empty stomach with 16 oz of water, no coffee for 30 minutes, and can't lie back down after you take it. PIMB. Pfft. But I'd rather deal with it now and not be breaking bones left and right as I get older.

Sam called me first thing in the morning yesterday to let us know there was a cancellation at the vet, did we want to bring Jaida in? The sore/cut/open wound is not getting any better and we had an appt for Monday evening but it made sense to get her in earlier. The vet did a needle aspiration on it and started her on abx and prednisone. It *might* be an infected bug bite or hot spot (*fingers crossed*) or a mast cell tumor -- we have two weeks of meds and have to wait and see if it works. If not, it might need surgery. Yay. :thud:

My BFF had invited Gary's brother and our SIL over too and it was nice catching up with everyone. I don't think I have seen them since Christmas, so I got to hear how my nieces are. One just got promoted to Manager at a collectible store and the other is doing her vet residency - three weeks in VA and then off to MO next.
After they left, BFF caught me up with all of the craziness of her mom's health. Still unable to talk, fell out of bed twice trying to get up, needs to be slightly sedated or she pulls all of the tubes out. It's such a weird place-- limbo. She isn't really living, not yet dying. Limbo. :(

My plans for today are to take it as easy as possible. I have a few things to do around the house, the biggest is the grocery order. I should probably do a quick dust, vacuum, and some laundry. I'd love to get out in the yard as long as possible. I am at Weis tomorrow but just working on the Cabin. I can be mostly alone/non-peopleing for that LOL

Wishing all of you a relaxing and rejuvenating day!
xoxo

@vickyday Thanks for the cucumber salad recipe. I bet some Vidalia onion would be awesome in it.
How is Mark's aunt doing? Is she normally at home or in assisted living?
BTW, my dad finally --finally after all of his falls-- is using his cane. Not always, but better than not at all.
I read Susie's AJ challenge and what great topics and prompts. Sadly, I have no idea where to begin ATM.

@BrightEyes What a nice surprise and change in plans to have DD#1 and your grandson come over. We didn't see any fireworks this year, with the trees overhead, it would be difficult anyway. My nephew had some of the best seats ever- He lives in DC and everyone in his building went to the rooftop to watch. That has to be really cool!
I hope that the weather cooperates with you- not too hot.

@AK_Tracy hehe, yeah, that is how I feel-- check the phone, the paper calendar, and the computer. Dates all confirmed. :p
That's too bad that you are allergic to many ingredients in sunscreen because I guess one of the only ways to find that outis after you slathered yourself.
I just found out the reason why we don't carry Neosporin in our first aid kits-- there is a common allergy to it. Can you imagine having a wound, using that, and then getting a rash/reaction? eep.
Hope that you enjoy the rest of the weekend.

@mimes1 So nice to meet new people and hit it off!
We aren't getting a noticeable shortening of days yet but the stupid app on the smart TV tracks it, and I get semi-obsessed as I watch the line shorten. :crying1:

Better get started if I want enough time to work in the yard.

Hugs!

You have lots of connections with others! Choose the one that gives you pleasure and satisfaction and go for it!
Mark's aunt's daughter would love to see her in assisted living but Martha is not ready to go that direction at all... mentally. It's going to be a battle for sure!

Morning all. Did not get to open the house this morning as it was already 77*F outside at 6:30AM!!! HOT!!, HOT!! HOT!!! Heading for 99*F or hotter today. Going to hunker down inside today. Had a nice surprise yesterday... DD#1 and son came over with a big watermelon just before noon. We had lunch together and then sliced up the watermelon. I kept a fourth of it and they took the rest back to his house. It has been a delightful holiday weekend having them here sharing time with me. Heard from DD#3... she is slowly recovering from the crud... but her son#1 is still down with it. Keeping our fingers crossed that DD#1 and I don't come down it as we were with DD#3 right before she got sick.

@faerywings Oh, my... 30 minutes with lots of water with meds and no coffee during that time!!! But if it helps your body, it is worth it. Glad to hear you are in better spirits today and know that Sunday feels like Sunday. Good news that your Dad is using his cane some of the time now.

Time for my shower and get dressed. BBL

Good Morning!!!

It *might* be an infected bug bite or hot spot (*fingers crossed*) or a mast cell tumor -- we have two weeks of meds and have to wait and see if it works. If not, it might need surgery. Yay. :thud:
Oh I hope its just a nasty bug bite and the abx fixes it. What. a worry.
I just found out the reason why we don't carry Neosporin in our first aid kits-- there is a common allergy to it. Can you imagine having a wound, using that, and then getting a rash/reaction? eep.

Ummmm, yes, I can do more than imagine how that would be. There is nothing worse then trying to heal an incision and you need to put Neosporin on it and ugh now you are red, itchy and wounded. Yes, I can imagine thanks. :giggle4: We now have Bacitracin in our our house, but still used sparingly.

The weather has cooled off for us, winds, clouds. I did stay inside all day yesterday and my kids even said its sunny why aren't you outside? Well, the warden (hubs) grounded me and I wasn't allowed. I'm still internally hot from being out all day the other day. Tomorrow I am heading up the deep clean of our church kitchen so I wont get here until late if at all. Today is a chill day after church. Maybe scrap a challenge. Need to start a new book as I finished mine last night. It was one of the July first reads and whoa it was a thriller. Had me from the go.

Have a wonderful day!!! @BrightEyes Kay stay cool, those temps sound terrible.
